Fede calls it protection. I call it extortion. But if it helps us to survive, that's all I want for my boy. Maybe sometimes it makes me a bad father."
―Antonio to Daryl Dixon.

Antonio is a main character and a survivor of the outbreak in AMC's The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. He is a resident of Solaz del Mar.

Pre-Apocalypse

Spain

Antonio grew up in Solaz del Mar as a Basque-Spanish resident, where he and Federico de Rivera developed a lifelong quarrel as children. Antonio believed in the Basque nationalist and separatist organization known as the Euskadi Ta Askatasuna (ETA), as did his mother. Antonio eventually moved to Barcelona and married a baker named Maria. The couple had their son, Roberto. By 2010, he began filming a documentary about the ETA protests in Spain, with Maria acting as a reporter for his film.

Post-Apocalypse

Barcelona, Catalonia

During Monument Day, Barcelona experienced ETA protests regarding a judge. Antonio was filming his documentary with Maria reporting. Maria commented that the situation was too dangerous to attempt an interview, but Antonio pressed her as he considered it a historic moment. As they approached the judge's car, it detonated from a bomb planted by the ETA. The explosion and Maria's death were caught on film. Antonio received extensive burns on his face but survived. Six other people were also killed in the attack, and many were injured. Antonio received care in an ambulance while with his deceased wife. Several hours after the attack, the victims of the attack, including Maria, resurrected as zombies. That night, Barcelona, along with the rest of the world, collapsed. Antonio returned to Roberto but revealed that his mother died in a car accident, rather than a car bombing that she was next to because of him.

Solaz del Mar

As the Trials commenced, Antonio moved back to Solaz del Mar with Roberto. Fede, now the Mayor of Solaz del Mar, learned the truth about Maria's death. Continuing their childhood rivalry and seeking submission from Antonio, Fede blackmailed him with this fact and threatened to tell Roberto.
