Anna later reveals that she was the one who had hired the men to steal the plane, explaining that a lot of people had seen it landing west of the city. Anna warns Daryl and Carol to be careful as a lot of people will want the plane as a way to get out.
After rescuing Ash, Daryl and Carol bring him back to the Hippodrome where Carol performs maintenance on the plane, impressing Ash with how much she has learned. Carol eventually admits that she had lied about coming to France in search of her daughter in order to get Ash to fly her across the ocean, enraging him.
After getting the fuel that the plane needs to fly to the Commonwealth from Anna and the Demimonde, Daryl returns with Laurent. However, Ash reveals that the plane only holds three people, meaning that someone must stay behind in France.
