I think, statistically, deterrence hasn't proven very effective. Rape and murder aren't tolerated (at least by anyone taken seriously) anywhere in America and typically receive the harshest punishments, but both crimes still occur.

When I say "suffer", I'm talking about inhumane punishments like smashing their skull open with a bat or burning them alive. Locking Sebastian up in a cell isn't inhumane because he's not being inherently mistreated. Justice should be quick and humane, lest we become no different than the criminals we judge.
Hell yeah

Well, Rick was always gonna go one way or another. I think that Kirkman did something awesome because we will now be able to see how will it affect Carl and his friends. If you don't know this, Carl was always this focus of the series, the story was told from the perspective of Rick that's right, but Kirkman always wanted to let us witness Carl's transformation.
because we will now be able to see how will it affect Carl and his friends......
yeah, no =[
Damn, Rick was pretty hardcore though. "This new world is a gift" Yeah, I can totally see how billions of dead and world pushed back 100 years is a good thing. All those comics and TV-shows made people soft. Good and honest poverty and suffering makes you truly live! ...by killing you and turning you into a brainless monster. Strong flourish and the weak will perish! Should bring back gladiator fights too. That should get the blood pumping. Also yeah those old flawed systems like democracy where the people elect their leaders were really stupid and it's about time we tried something different... like a system where the people elect their leaders! Haven't figured out how exactly it's different, but damn it, this speech needs to be inspirational! It doesn't need to make sense! I'm just making shit up as I go!
Maybe it's just me but if I lived in that world, I wouldn't find him very inspiring. I would be like "Wait, this is a good thing?" And what's with that inscription on Rick Grime's statue? It's like "F you! You are in the real shit now!! All you lazy fat weaklings will suffer!"

Couldn't agree more. Also, people in TWD act like it was all Rick that brought back a bit of civilization, which is total BS. Many other people before him did it and succeeded until some other group came along and destroyed everything again - sometimes, that destruction came from Rick himself. He's not some kind of hero who should be remembered at all.
