Romero didn't invent the term zombie...he popularised it, sure. But anyone with at least a little more than depth history knowledge would at least know the word 'zombie'.
I'm pretty sure it was never said that the concept of zombies didn't exist. I could see how one could argue it wasn't as popular as in our world but to say zombies didn't exist would be crazy. Again I just think if they ever wanted to say it on the show he is the perfect person to say it.

They can and they have used it several times in the comics and video-game.
Those were by accident

He's referring to the show. The word appears far too many times in the comics and video-game to be a mistake.

The game only used the word once, but yeah the word exist in the comic book series, but the characters don't like to use it, however the word "zombies" doesn't exist in the tv universe.
“We wanted to give you a sense that The Walking Dead takes place in a universe where zombie fiction doesn’t exist.”
“No one inside The Walking Dead has seen a [George Romero] movie, so they can’t get the rules from that.
Well it doesn't say it actually doesn't exist just that it probably doesn't. It as you said is used only once in the games which to me would imply that Zombie lore couldn't have been that popular in the game universe. All i'm saying is that if they were to ever mention it even if just one time like the game I think Negan would be the perfect person to use it.
