The border crossing once served as an official point of entry between Mexico and the United States. It was serviced by members of the US and Mexican Border Patrol.
As the apocalypse unfolded, thousands of people attempted to cross the border to safety, but at one point the border was closed, forcing people to abandon their cars in the traffic and turn back towards the city.
After witnessing a helicopter take off from what appears to be a refugee camp on the border, Nick and Luciana gather the residents of La Colonia and make their way toward the border crossing, fleeing Marco's impending attack. Arriving at the border crossing, they find it abandoned, but Nick once again sees a helicopter in the distance. However, they are suddenly ambushed by heavily-armed men wearing military-style gear. The residents of La Colonia flee in terror as Reynaldo is killed and Luciana is injured. Nick and Luciana are then captured by the armed men.
- Given its proximity to Tijuana and the similarities in design, the border crossing is most likely based off the San Ysidro Port of Entry, the largest border crossing between Tijuana and San Diego.
- On Talking Dead, it was revealed that the filming location took place at a former border crossing and the Mexican government granted the producers special permission to fire weapons during filming.
