C4 is a type of high explosive.

Pre-Apocalypse[]

Before the outbreak, C4 was often used by the military for their operations.

Post-Apocalypse[]

Fear the Walking Dead[]

Madison and Troy set up C4 to destroy the Gonzalez Dam in the midst of an attack by the Proctors. Nick later uses the detonator as leverage against Proctor John, eventually detonating the explosives and releasing the water. Madison, Strand and Alicia survive being caught in the ensuing flood while Nick and Daniel Salazar manage to escape from the dam's destruction. It's unknown if Proctor John and his men perished or if they had managed to escape as well.

World Beyond[]

Following the outbreak, C4 is used by the Civic Republic Military as part of their efforts to clear out New York State from the undead. At the Civic Republic Cull Facility 1, Dennis Graham and his workers lure walkers in using loud music and fireworks, having first laid C4 across the kill zone. Once most of the walkers have been eliminated, the outpost's workers move in and finish them off with kill sticks. They also capture any that are being tracked by the research facility that end up in the kill zone before finishing the others off.

The CRM uses C4 to destroy the walls of Omaha and presumably the Campus Colony as well to let in a massive herd to overrun both survivor communities in order to cover up their genocide using chlorine gas.

When the Endlings lead a rebellion against the CRM, Dennis provides Huck with tools, weapons and C4. In order to cover their escape into the old mining tunnels, Felix Carlucci plants C4 in the biocontainment unit, collapsing the tunnel entrance behind them and killing four CRM soldiers as they enter the room. After reaching Lyla Belshaw's lab, the group sends a number of the facility's zombified test subjects into the tunnels with a charge on five of the test subjects, one for each tunnel. After the walkers are put down and the teams of CRM soldiers are in place, the scientists, Hope and Iris use the C4 to collapse tunnels 1 through 5, killing fifteen CRM soldiers. After getting the scientists to safety, Felix and Hope go to the cold storage room where Felix had found the chlorine gas, intending to use the remaining C4 to destroy it. However, they discover that the gas is gone, having been secretly moved by Jadis who had anticipated that they would try to destroy it.

When all hope seems lost for stopping the destruction of Portland, Huck contacts Hope, Iris and Silas and asks them if they still have the C4. After Hope confirms that they do, Huck reveals that she has found the missing gas hidden at the culling facility. After the others bring her the C4, Huck wires it up to the gas, but she discovers that the CRM's radio jamming is also blocking their remote detonators. Huck sends Silas and Dennis to Dennis' weapons cache a few miles away, supposedly to get equipment to create a timer for the explosives. However, Huck's true intention is to get them to safety while she secretly wires up a makeshift timer using her father's watch. At the same time, the CRM traces the C4 back to the culling facility and Jadis rushes to stop them, quickly realizing that Dennis had supplied the Endlings with the C4 and that the gas was in danger. Moments after Huck's death at Jadis' hands, the C4 detonates, destroying the chlorine gas in a massive chemical explosion.
