The cigarette man is an antagonist and a survivor of the outbreak in AMC's Fear The Walking Dead. He is a member of a mysterious hostile group, and served as the primary antagonist of the episode "The Key".
Nothing is known about this man's life prior to or as the outbreak began.
At some point in the apocalypse, this man and his companion came across a large submarine washed up on the shoreline of Galveston, Texas. After discovering the key to the large vessel was in possession of a man named Walter, they contacted bounty hunter Emile LaRoux to track him down and retrieve the key.
The man is first seen with his companion camping out beside the submarine. The man spray paints the words, "the end is the beginning" on the side of the submarine, but is interrupted by a walker, who he kills with the can. The man tells his companion that Emile should have arrived by then, and the two agree to wait elsewhere.
When Dwight and Althea enter an office building, they find the same message from the submarine, "the end is the beginning", spray painted on a wall, hinting that the man was in the building at some point. After the two situate the issue in the building with plague-ridden rats, Al examines an abandoned can of spray paint, drawing the analysis that the man who left the message intentionally infected the community.
While traveling down the road, Morgan's car is struck by another car driven by the man. When the man exits with his companion, he is held at axe point by Morgan. They threaten him and demand he gives them a key. When Morgan refuses to comply, they attack. After Morgan kills his companion, this man jumps on his back and begins to strangle him. Morgan is able to shake him off and once again warns him to stop. This man ignores him and attacks him with a knife, forcing Morgan to stab him in the chest.
