I saw someone survive a bite longer than anyone I had ever seen, and she had been exposed to radiation, so I thought if it worked for her, it could work for Hannah. I gave her radiotherapy with equipment that we scavenged from a hospital. It stopped the infection. But the amount of radiation that it took... just made things worse for her and I wanted to end her suffering.
―June explaining her experiments on a cure to the Wildfire Virus.[src]

The Coastal Railroad Museum is a location in Season 8 of AMC's Fear the Walking Dead. It is a train museum transformed into a lab by PADRE for experiments on curing the Wildfire Virus.

Pre-Apocalypse[]

Nothing is known of the museum's history before the outbreak. A billboard in Georgia describes the museum as a "seaside heritage experience". The billboard also noted that the museum was open Monday thru Saturday and closed on Sundays.

Post-Apocalypse[]

After June Dorie joins PADRE, a young girl that she grew close to, Hannah, suffers a walker bite while on a supply run. Desperate to save her, June begins experiments on curing the active infection of the Wildfire Virus using radiation based upon Alicia Clark's survival due to her own radiation exposure. Under the supervision of Shrike, Padre has an off-the-books operation set up on the old train to experiment upon people using equipment scavenged from a hospital. However, while the radiotherapy succeeds in stopping the infection, the required levels are also fatal to the test subjects. Shrike forces June to experiment upon dozens of people, leaving them as walkers in the train's various cars after their deaths and reanimation or severing their heads and placing them into jars. Eventually, June cuts off Shrike's trigger finger and escapes, leaving the lab abandoned for years aside from the walker test subjects.

Season 8[]

"Blue Jay"[]

Years after abandoning the lab, June reluctantly returns to it along with Dwight, Sherry, and Finch in order to perform emergency surgery to remove Finch's appendix. The four find the lab covered in dust and cobwebs and June puts down the severed walker head used in the lab's experiments. June dodges the couple's questions about the lab's purpose, even after Sherry finds a file detailing the experiments performed there, placing the blame on Shrike rather than admitting to her own role in it.

Before June can begin the surgery, Adrian arrives, misunderstanding the adults' intentions for the young boy. Dwight is able to overpower and disarm Adrian, but Adrian's gun goes off in the struggle, hitting the control box and knocking out the power. June reveals the true nature of the experiments as it's too dangerous for Dwight to pass through the train to hit the emergency override at the back in order to restore the power. Instead, Dwight and Sherry climb over the train's roof and successfully restore the power. However, they fall through the roof into a car full of walkers on their way back. Ignoring Dwight's orders to leave them, June fights through the walkers on the train with Adrian and Finch's help and rescues Dwight and Sherry. Before they can return to the operating room, Adrian spots the zombified Hannah who is actually his daughter in the next car and realizes the truth. June finally reveals the full truth about the lab, that it was her own experiments to find a cure rather than Shrike's. Unwilling to live without his daughter, Adrian commits suicide by allowing Hannah and three other test subjects to devour him.

June successfully removes Finch's appendix before it can burst, but before she can go to put down Hannah and Adrian, Shrike arrives with several PADRE guards, having deduced that June would head for the lab. In order to force June to resume her experiments on finding a cure, Shrike uses Adrian's severed zombified head to bite Finch in the left shoulder. Severing June's trigger finger in order to keep her from doing PADRE anymore harm, Shrike informs her that new test subjects are already on their way for June to work on.

"Odessa"[]

In the days since Finch was bitten, he has responded to the radiation treatment and is successfully cured of his walker bite infection. Shrike and her forces put down Hannah, Adrian and the other test subjects and move the train somewhere further down the tracks to continue the experiments in greater safety due to its previous position being exposed.

With the success of the treatment on Finch, Madison Clark is brought to the lab due to Shrike's belief that there might be a genetic factor that Madison shares with Alicia that had allowed Alicia to survive her infection. However, Mo tracks down the train with Dove, having grown suspicious of what had happened to Finch following his failure to return from his surgery and discovering that the train was moved from the railroad museum. Mo interrupts the experiment, giving June the chance to fight back, knock out Shrike and kill the other two guards.

Faced with the gruesome sight of the lab and Madison and June's revelations about both Finch and the experiments, Dove agrees to help them seek answers from Padre who Shrike reveals is her father. Outside of the train, they are captured by Daniel's resistance who are in search of their missing kids and Adrian. June reveals the fates of Hannah and Adrian to the group and Daniel Salazar, recognizing the two women, agrees to work with them to get answers from Padre.

After recapturing Madison and June, Shrike attempts to return them to the lab in order to continue the experiments which are important to Shrike and Ben's plans for the future as a cure could help stop kids from suffering the unimaginable pain of losing a parent and allow them to go back to family and connections. However, Daniel and his people ambush the group and rescue Madison and June, bringing an end to PADRE's experiments.

"More Time Than You Know"[]

After Grace is bitten, Morgan's Group attempts to rush her to the train in the hopes that June can cure her, but Shrike reveals that she has moved the train again and she offers Morgan a deal to allow him use of it in exchange for Morgan helping her to clear the PADRE Shipyard of walkers. After Morgan and Daniel's Resistance refuse upon learning that the job needs to be done by hand, the deal between the two sides breaks down. It is subsequently discovered that the treatment on Finch has failed due to June not giving him enough radiation as it would otherwise kill him. As June tries to figure out a way to save Finch, Morgan and Grace accept the inevitable and decide to spend as much time together as possible.

After Morgan leaves, Mo defies her parents' wishes and searches the tracks for the train car, eventually finding it protected by Dove, Hawk and several other PADRE Prefects. Mo convinces them to get out of the way, but they use flares to draw in a herd to surround the train car in order to prevent Mo from leaving. Under June's instructions over the radio, Mo attempts the treatment on Grace, but it ultimately fails, and she dies. Grace reanimates after Mo can't bring herself to put down her mother, but Morgan arrives just in time to dispatch the walkers outside and put down Grace.

Shrike joins her Prefects outside and Mo, not wanting to feel this kind of pain again, goes with them to help clear out the shipyard. Not wanting to kill Morgan, Shrike locks him in the train car and has the Prefects summon another herd to trap him, leaving Morgan's staff and his old battle axe on the railroad tracks outside.

"All I See Is Red"[]

By the time that Madison arrives to check on Morgan the night of Grace's death, Morgan has somehow managed to escape, reach his battle axe and slaughter the herd surrounding the train car. However, having slipped into a fit of insanity after losing Grace, Morgan attacks Madison who is forced to subdue him and written on the walls in Grace's blood "CLEAR. GRACE TURNED. CLEAR. MO RAN." The two leave to save Mo with Morgan intending to return later to give Grace a proper burial.

After being bitten by a zombified Krennick, Shrike is brought to the train car by June with a new walker head in the extension device. However, Finch, dying from his returned walker bite infection, has Dwight tell June to mercy kill Shrike. June puts down the walker head, but Ben arrives, looking for his sister. After Ben agrees to end his sister's suffering himself, June leaves them alone, but orders Ben to find another place to live once he's done burying Shrike.

Before leaving for Alexandria, Morgan returns to the train car and takes Grace's body for a proper burial at Eastman's Cemetery.
