This article is about the Colt Python. You may be looking for other similar named Colt firearms.
The Colt Python is a .357 Magnum caliber revolver formerly manufactured by Colt's Manufacturing Company of Hartford, Connecticut. It is sometimes referred to as a "Combat Magnum".
It was first introduced in 1955, the same year as Smith & Wesson's M29 .44 Magnum. The now discontinued Colt Python targeted the premium revolver market segment. Some firearm collectors and writers have described the Python as the finest production revolver ever made. The Colt Python is a standard-issue firearm for Georgia State Patrol and Florida Highway Patrol officers, but it is very rarely used in other American states by law enforcement officials.
In The Walking Dead TV series, it is the signature weapon of Rick Grimes, carried by him throughout the series and chosen for its high stopping power and accuracy. Notably, the manner in which he aims the magnum, up and at a down angle, has become something of a joke online, dubbed "Rick's way" of holding the gun. Though Rick is shown with a revolver on occasion in the comics, it is not his "signature weapon" and he is rarely shown using it. In Season 5, however, in the first episode, "No Sanctuary", Rick chooses to hide several guns in a bag in a forest before entering Terminus, as a precautionary measure, and he temporarily uses other firearms instead of his revolver, even after retrieving it. At the end of Season 6, Rick had his revolver confiscated and was seen in the hands of Joseph, before Daryl killed him during his escape and returned the gun to its owner. Andrew Lincoln has nicknamed the gun "Kevin".
After Rick's apparent death, Judith Grimes is seen using the gun six years later along with a smaller version of Michonne's katana. In a flashback in "Scars", its shown that Michonne recovered the gun from the riverbank sometime after Rick's apparent death while searching for him.
