The Dark Horses are a group of survivors introduced in Season 7 of AMC's Fear the Walking Dead. They were formed after the nuclear warheads hit the landscape of Texas. Originally comprising of Dwight and Sherry, the group is an ethical force of outlaws that use vigilante justice to protect those in need and to punish those that break their code. However, the group was dissolved and joined Alicia's group, serving as fighters and scouts. Despite this, they continue to operate independently in a limited capacity, occasionally still responding to distress calls on their emergency channel. The group subsequently disbanded for good after leaving Texas completely.

Overview[]

After the nuclear warheads hit the landscape of Texas, Dwight and Sherry declared themselves as outlaws. They recruited a woman named Mickey to join them, but the trio of outlaws were quickly merged with Alicia's group, mostly disbanding the original Dark Horses with Mickey leaving as the conflict with Strand heats up. However, months later, Dwight and Sherry are shown to continue operating as the Dark Horses in a limited capacity, responding to distress calls on the Dark Horses' emergency channel.

"Till Death"[]

The Dark Horses will appear in this episode.

"The Portrait"[]

After running into Morgan, Dwight and Sherry bring Morgan to their camp where they meet Alicia and other members of her group. It's revealed that it was actually Alicia's group that had approached the Dark Horses for help with finding PADRE, not the Stalkers, both being factions split off from the Doomsday Cult and thus wearing similar gear.

"PADRE"[]

After escaping from the destruction of her camp, Alicia reveals that the Dark Horses had managed to find the zombified Senator Elias Vazquez for her a few days before and Dwight brings him out. However, two of Alicia's patrolmen show up as walkers, having been killed by Strand's Rangers and they are put down by Morgan and Dwight. When Sherry arrives, she reveals that she and Mickey had also survived an attack by the Rangers. Wanting nothing more to do with the conflict, Mickey leaves the Dark Horses and goes her own way.

Morgan and Alicia send everyone to the sub while they try to follow Vazquez to PADRE on their own. Subsequently, both Alicia's group and the Dark Horses are integrated into Morgan's Group.

"The Raft"[]

Dwight contacts Sherry and informs her that they received a distress call on the Dark Horses' emergency channel that they once used when serving as outlaws. Sherry, who is acting strangely, insists upon Dwight waiting for her to return, but he refuses as a woman desperately needs their help. Dwight and Sherry arrive in time to rescue the woman from a small herd, including a radioactive walker. Afterwards, Dwight directs Maya to the Tower to find her missing son, despite the fact that Dwight and Sherry's group is about to go to war with Strand and assault the Tower.

Shortly thereafter, Dwight and Sherry are contacted by Morgan who seeks their help to protect Mo and get rid of Strand's walker moat. Under attack by Rangers, Morgan leaves the baby with Dwight and Sherry while he continues to lead the herd away to trap it in the crater. However, they encounter Wes, now working for Strand who attempts to take Mo from them. The two escape and hide out at a car wash where Dwight discovers that Sherry has been making plans for him to leave on the sub's emergency life raft out of fear that Dwight will revert to his old ways and join the Tower. Their argument is interrupted first by word from Luciana that they have to abandon the Pennsylvania for good due to a radiation leak and then an attack by Wes and two Rangers. Pretending to agree to turn the baby over, Dwight overpowers the Rangers, killing two of them and holding Wes back to buy Sherry time to escape with Mo.

Dwight later catches up with Sherry in the ruins of the Franklin Hotel where they realize that they are on top of the bunker that Teddy had imprisoned Alicia in. Learning that there is another way out through the bunker's unstable drainage pipes, the two decide to escape through the bunker with Dwight at first arguing to instead go through the crater before Sherry reveals that she thinks that she might be pregnant.

Inside the bunker, Sherry recovers Alicia's abandoned Sharpened Barrel Shroud and they learn that the crater, due to someone adding a ramp to let the walkers out, is not an option for containing the herd. Instead, Sherry decides to set off the bunker's fire alarm which draws the herd inside while Dwight and Sherry crawl their way out through the drainage pipe. The ploy succeeds, trapping the herd and resulting in the deaths of Wes' six men, although Wes himself manages to escape. The unstable drainage pipe partially collapses, trapping Dwight and Sherry until, after discovering that she really is pregnant, Sherry is filled with renewed determination. Using the barrel shroud, Sherry digs their way out and the two reunite with Morgan and Alicia on the outside, returning the baby to Morgan. With Dwight and Sherry both determined to see the fight through, Sherry provides Morgan with the life raft and the supplies that she had been preparing so that he can find a safe new home for baby Mo.
