“ | Some Rangers, they got wind of this place, what we had -- I was out on a supply run, and I came back and... Emily and her mom, they, um, they tried to protect this place from those people. And Virginia... she -- she killed your family. She killed mine, too. I should have done more. I could have done more to protect them. I started making them after Emily and Nancy died. I-I-I wanted them to be scary. Yes! Yes. The kind of people... the kind of people that hurt my Emily and -- and the kind of people that tried to hurt you. But if I can keep you safe... well... maybe I'll have done something right.

Ed is a former antagonist and a survivor of the outbreak in AMC's Fear the Walking Dead. He served as the primary antagonist of the episode "Damage From the Inside".
Overview[]
Ed is an abnormal and mentally unstable man. Though he has good intentions, his impulsive and questionable actions make him seem untrustworthy. Due to being a taxidermist, he armors up walkers with objects like deer antlers which are used to scare people away. However, he states that Virginia's people had killed his wife and daughter which caused him to become guilt-ridden. Seeing as he was unable to protect his family, when he meets Dakota, Charlie, and Alicia, he tries to redeem himself by protecting them. He attempts to make his lodge a safe place for them to stay by boarding up the house and luring walkers around the house. However, when Ed finds out Alicia is contacting Virginia, he loses it. Alicia fights Ed which ends up with him being impaled by deer antlers. In his last moments, he admits that it was actually his creations that killed his family, not Virginia. He shows no disdain for Alicia and sacrifices himself to buy the three time to escape, showing that he isn't a bad person.
Pre-Apocalypse[]
Location Unknown[]
Nothing is known about Ed's life prior to or as the outbreak began other than that he had a wife named Nancy and a daughter named Emily. He was also a taxidermist like his father was, and lived in a city.
Post-Apocalypse[]
Rural Texas[]
After the outbreak happened. Ed, took his family to his father's old hunting cabin where they had years worth of supplies. Ed started augmenting walkers to scare other people away. However one day one of his creations got loose and killed both his wife Nancy and his daughter Emily.
Season 6[]
"Damage From the Inside"[]
Alicia enters the lodge and finds Ed performing taxidermy work on a walker. Ed finds Alicia and injects her with a tranquilizer. Alicia wakes up strapped to Ed's workshop table. She cuts her bonds and tries to escape. Dakota and Ed enter the room. Dakota says that Ed helped her in the woods and explains that she did not see who attacked the convoy. Ed plays chess with Dakota and says that his wife and daughter are dead. Dakota mentions that Virginia killed her parents. Alicia suggests they leave but Dakota refuses to go anywhere. Alicia goes to get a blanket and finds Charlie hiding in the hallway. Charlie says that Ed boarded up the house after he found Alicia. Alicia tells Charlie to stay hidden.
Ed and Dakota find Alicia searching for a weapon in Ed's workshop. Alicia demands to know why he locked up the house. Ed insists he's just trying to keep Dakota safe. Alicia reveals that Dakota is Virginia's sister and that Virginia will come looking for her. Ed agrees to let them leave at dawn. Alicia privately tells Dakota that Ed probably attacked the convoy and plans to kill them. She agrees to find a place where Dakota can escape Virginia. Alicia secretly radios Virginia and informs her that she found Dakota after the convoy was attacked. She offers to deliver Dakota to the safe house on the condition that Virginia release her and Charlie. Virginia agrees.
Ed blares music to attract a herd to the lodge and make it a safe haven for Alicia and Dakota. He explains that Virginia's rangers killed his family while he was on a supply run and that he created the walker monsters to scare people away. He leads them upstairs at gunpoint. Alicia and Dakota wait in a locked bedroom. Charlie unlocks the door and says that she stole the keys after tranquilizing Ed. Alicia, Dakota and Charlie turn off the music. The herd begins to dissipate. Ed wakes up and accuses Alicia of secretly contacting Virginia. Alicia fights Ed and he gets impaled by an antler. The herd hears the commotion and returns to the lodge.
Alicia tries to help Ed. He urges them to flee and implores Alicia to abandon whatever deal she had made with Virginia. He admits that Virginia didn't kill his family. Instead, they were killed when one of his walker creations got loose in the house. The walkers break down the door. Dakota and Alicia watch in horror as Ed offers himself up to the walkers.

Trivia[]
- Ed is the second character in Fear the Walking Dead to get impaled by deer antlers, the first being Ennis. Although, unlike Ennis, it's not what ultimately kills him and he doesn't reanimate. Both however receive their implement from a member of the Clark family.
- His death is similar to that of Jeremiah Garlitz and "Beta"; he dies by being happily eaten alive by his "followers" in a Christ-like pose.
- According to a Bonus Edition for "Damage From the Inside", Ed was named after Ed Gein, a serial killer and body snatcher from Wisconsin. He also known as "The Butcher of Plainfield".
