Ed Blake is a character first mentioned in The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor. He is the husband of Rose Blake, the father of Philip and Brian Blake, and the grandfather of Penny Blake. He is described as "a big drinker with a sense of humor and a simple, coarse hillbilly laborer who tried to fight his demons long enough to be a loving father." He has a "pug nose, prominent brow, and crow’s feet around red-rimmed eyes."

Pre-Apocalypse[]

Ireland[]

Ed was born in Ireland and grew up with his brother, Bud. He later moved to America with his family.

Waynesboro, Georgia[]

In October of 1944, during World War II, he lost his brother, Bud, who was serving in the Pacific Ocean in the U.S. Navy, whose demise by Japanese kamikazes attacking his ship, USS Sonoma.

At some point, he married Rose Garcia, a Mexican-American woman, and they had two kids: Brian and Philip. The family lived in the shabby little bungalow on Farrel Street while he worked as a laborer. He was an alcoholic struggling to be a good father with a polar personality, ranging from slapping his family around with the back of his big, callused hands to taking his children to the Heart of Georgia State Fair and then riding the Zipper together. He would toss off sarcastic one-liners with the drunken relish, cutting to the quick with his words.

Deering, Georgia[]

After he got older, he retired from his job and moved to Deering, a retirement community near the Fort Gordon military base, with his wife, living in a little townhouse.

Post-Apocalypse[]

Deering, Georgia[]

When the dead began to rise, the entire population of Deering had evacuated to a nearby military base for safe keeping, including him and his wife. However, it is unknown whether he survived or died after then.
