Emile's Battle Axe acts as Emile's primary weapon of choice starting from Season 6 of AMC's Fear the Walking Dead. It is adopted by Morgan Jones after the death of its original owner with Morgan eventually personalizing the axe by turning his old staff into the weapon's new handle.
Post-Apocalypse[]
This battle axe was obtained by Emile LaRoux at some point who used it extensively in his bounty hunting career, decapitating his victims and delivering their heads in a box to his clients. During Emile's last fight with Morgan Jones, Morgan managed to catch the axe just beneath the blade on his staff, force it to the ground next to him, knock Emile's feet from under him and impale the bounty hunter in the chest with his staff. Taking Emile's battle axe, Morgan used it to decapitate the weapon's now-former owner.
The next day, Morgan chose to abandon his staff and adopt the battle axe as his new weapon. Morgan later returned to Valley Town, removed the axe's original handle and replaced it with his staff, effectively combining Morgan's two weapons together. This proved to be incredibly effective against both living and undead opponents as during a fight, Morgan was able to kill one man with the axe before impaling the other with the sharpened end of his staff moments later. The battle axe is briefly used by Dakota after Morgan hurts himself fleeing from a herd.
When Virginia asks Morgan to execute her, Morgan prepares to use the axe to decapitate her, but changes his mind at the last second. As a sign of the peace that he's trying to establish, Morgan plants the axe into the ground outside of Valley Town until the day that it is needed again to defend the community which Morgan hopes will never happen.
Despite the threat of the Doomsday Cult, Morgan appears to choose to craft a new staff rather than to retrieve his axe from the ground. In Grace's dream, the axe is still rusting in the ground 16 years later with purple flowers growing up around it. Grace stops to examine the axe in awe while the dream Morgan, like his real world counterpart, uses a different staff as his weapon instead.
As he abandons Valley Town to stop the cult's plan to launch nuclear missiles from the USS Pennsylvania, Morgan retrieves his axe from the ground to be his weapon once again. Morgan uses the axe to put down a number of the sub's zombified crew, but Victor Strand attempts to steal the axe and leave Morgan to die. In the struggle, Strand breaks the axe head off of the staff handle and uses it as his weapon. After saving Strand from Dakota, Morgan gives Strand the axe head to continue to use while Morgan continues to use his staff. Before he leaves after failing to stop the cult, Strand places the axe head down on a table next to Morgan's staff.
Following this, Morgan temporarily abandons use of the axe, taking only his staff with him when Morgan exits the sub to investigate a baby crying.
By the time that he goes searching for John Sr. and June, Morgan has repaired his axe, He uses his staff to put down a zombified Stalker outside of Teddy's Secret Bunker. Since repairing his axe, he appears to have added a metal ring close to the point of his staff for an unknown reason.
When Morgan is captured by PADRE guards, they confiscate his battle axe and staff, although they take the weapon with him when they take Morgan and Madison Clark to PADRE's ship.
Following Morgan's rescue mission for Mo, he loses his original staff and battle axe. After what Morgan did with it while escaping with Mo, PADRE keeps it in storage for seven years with Shrike noting that his actions with the weapon on that day were particularly memorable. As a result, Morgan begins using a cruder version of his old staff instead, even while working as a Collector for PADRE.
After Grace's death, Shrike presents Morgan with his old battle axe which she had dug out of storage, presumably in anticipation of returning it to Morgan for him to help her to clear the PADRE Shipyard by hand, something that the weapon would've been extremely useful to him to do with. When Morgan tries to run after Mo, Shrike uses the staff end of the battle axe to trip Morgan before threatening him with the blade. After locking him in the train car, Shrike tosses Morgan's battle axe onto the railroad tracks next to his current staff. Morgan is eventually able to somehow escape, retrieve his battle axe and use it to eliminate the herd before Madison finds him. He also attacks Madison with the axe before she subdues him and hides the axe in the train car until Madison can be sure that Morgan is back in control of himself. After this, Morgan abandons all use of his new staff in favor of his old one and his battle axe.
While trying to save Mo from the herd from the PADRE Shipyard, Morgan uses his battle axe and staff to put down in a number of walkers. However, as Morgan keeps slipping in and out of deranged states, he attacks Madison and Daniel's Resistance who take it from him twice with Morgan even giving up the weapon at one point for everyone's safety. After getting stuck in some mud, Morgan is able to free himself by planting his battle axe in the ground and using it to pull himself out, but discovers in the process that he had damaged Madison's oxygen tank with the blade. After attacking Mo, she takes the axe and places it out of Morgan's reach in Morgan's Houseboat. Once Mo leaves, the flooding of the houseboat allows Morgan to reach his axe and cut himself free.
Following PADRE's defeat, Morgan buries Grace in Eastman's Cemetery and he finds Mo a new staff which she practices with. Speaking to his old friend's grave, Morgan presents his greatly changed staff to Eastman, the man who had created it for Morgan in the first place, commenting that Eastman likely wouldn't even recognize it or Morgan himself now given how much they've both changed. Morgan takes his staff and battle axe with him as he leaves to return to Alexandria with Mo and to find Rick Grimes.
