Before the apocalypse, this building served as a recreational center for the local community.
Post-Apocalypse[]
As the outbreak began to worsen nationwide, the Federal Emergency Management Agency converted this building into a refugee camp for survivors to take shelter in, as well as to distribute large amounts of supplies, as seen by the stacks of MRE boxes in the cafeteria area. At some point, June and her daughter, Rose, stumbled upon this FEMA camp, seeking shelter and refuge. June eventually left the shelter to find antibiotics for her daughter, as she was suffering from pneumonia (and the camp most likely ran out of necessary medical supplies by that point). However, upon her return, everyone had been bitten and infected, due to her daughter succumbing to her illness and reanimating.
June enters the FEMA shelter through a side entrance and goes to the pantry. She opens a locked box and retrieves a notebook containing instructions for survival. She also takes a set of keys with "JIC" written on a keychain.
June enters a cafeteria and breaks into tears when she sees kids' drawings on the wall. The herd hears her and migrates from the lobby into the cafeteria. She flees to another room and finds herself surrounded by infected, some of whose faces she recognizes. She climbs to the top of scaffolding and sobs as the herd gathers below her.
Madison and Strand enter the FEMA shelter and spot June on the scaffolding. Naomi tosses them the "JIC" keys and tells them there's a truck outside with supplies. Madison distracts infected while Strand strings up some rope. June shimmies across the rope and escapes with Madison and Strand.
Madison, Strand, and Naomi rest in the lobby. June explains that she and her daughter, Rose, had stayed at the shelter, where a woman named Ellen taught "Just in Case" survival skill classes. June says that she left the shelter to find antibiotics after Rose caught pneumonia. When she returned, Rose had died, turned and infected everyone else.
Naomi takes Madison and Strand to a well-stocked "Just in Case" truck that Ellen had prepared in the event of an emergency. After putting down the reanimated Ellen and removing her body, they prepare to return to the stadium.
While talking to Virginia, June tells her about the loss of her daughter and her community at the FEMA shelter as a result of June's efforts to protect Rose.
