―Felix to his students.[src]

Felix Carlucci is the tritagonist and a survivor of the outbreak in AMC's The Walking Dead: World Beyond. He was the head of security and a survival instructor for the Campus Colony of Omaha, one of three cities part of the Alliance of the Three.

Overview[]

Felix is described as an honorable man of his word who isn't afraid to fight for others' safety and acceptance.[1]

Pre-Apocalypse[]

Lincoln, Nebraska[]

Felix Carlucci was born on August 26, 1990 and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska by his mother and father. At age 18, Felix was accepted to the Nebraska State University. In 2010, Felix's father struggled to find employment so Felix worked overtime at his job while at school to help pay his parent's bills. Felix began researching websites featuring career guides for his father to use to help find a job. After coming home from overtime at work, Felix was confronted by his father who had used his laptop to use the career website but ended up discovering Felix's private emails with his boyfriend. Felix was called a faggot and forced out of his home by his father. Felix then lived on campus and struggled to get by. However, one of his professors, Dr. Leopold Bennett, took him into his family to help support him. He then grew attached to the Bennett Family, including Dr. Bennett's wife, Kari Bennett, and their adopted, young daughters, Iris and Hope. They gave him a loving home and accepted him as who he was.

Post-Apocalypse[]

Lincoln, Nebraska[]

In the fall of 2010, just as Felix turned 20, the outbreak went global. Felix was at the University during "The Night the Sky Fell," when a passenger plane crashed into the streets of Lincoln during outbreak. Kari Bennett was killed in the chaos, but Dr. Leo Bennett was able to rescue Iris and Hope and bring them to the University where the military would keep them safe.

Two weeks after the global outbreak, the U.S. Military began to napalm all major cities in the United States, including Lincoln, in accordance with Operation Cobalt. Felix felt that he needed to be with his family in the end and went through the streets of Omaha while they were being bombed. He attempted to call his family, but all major communications failed. He finally managed to reach his home to help them, but his father and mother kept the door locked, turned off the lights, and claimed they didn't need his help and still rejected him. Felix cried on their porch and then later returned to the University. Shortly after, both his parents would succumb to the outbreak.

At the University, Dr. Leopold Bennett became the leader and they established a community at the university, now known as the Campus Colony. A military safe-zone established in Omaha survived and connected with the Campus Colony. Sometime after, the Omaha Safe-Zone and Campus Colony came into contact with the Civic Republic, another community with an unknown place of origin, but had established a connection with a safe-zone in Portland, Oregon. With Omaha, and the Campus Colony, agreeing to join the CRM, they became a part of the Alliance of the Three.

Felix later became a security officer for the community and became an instructor in survival and combat. At some point, he met Will Campbell and developed a romantic relationship with him. The Civic Republic then requested the scientific knowledge of Leo Bennett, causing him to be taken to an unknown location. Will was assigned to escort Leo to the classified location as the head of his security detail. Knowing that Felix would miss him, Will left behind his jacket for him. After Leo and Will departed, Leo was able to send messages to his daughters and Felix via fax machine.

Season 1[]

"Brave"[]

As Felix and Huck prepare to escort representatives from the Campus Colony to meet up with representatives from the CRM, Iris approaches them and admires their weapons. As Felix and Huck lead the way in their jeep, they encounter a few walkers with Huck running one over. After the CRM helicopter lands, Felix and Huck introduce themselves to Lieutenant Colonel Elizabeth Kublek who has her men take care of a few walkers drawn by her helicopter and assures them that they will take precautions to ensure that they don't draw any more. After the initial meeting, Felix and Huck drive Kublek and a few of her men back to the university while the rest ride in the bus.

The next day, Hope's alcohol lab is raided by the police and she is arrested. Hope tries to claim that it's only a little bit, but Felix calls it a lifetime supply and is annoyed that Hope hasn't finally gotten her act together with Leo gone as he had hoped. Coming closer, Felix quietly asks if Hope has heard anything from Leo and she confirms that its been months since they've heard anything. Felix asks Hope why she does the destructive things that she does with all of her gifts, but she turns the question around on him. Felix states that her dad had given him a life which he is grateful for even if it means trying to reign Hope in. Iris arrives and Felix states that he needs a family member to sign for Hope until she can appear before the CCC. Iris points out that he has guardianship over them and Felix releases Hope, stating that he'd wanted her to think about what she did.

Later, Felix and Huck tag walkers with blue paint so that Dr. Bavolar can study their migration patterns. Huck reassures Felix that she's happy to help him and she accuses Felix of thriving on the unglamorous because he's still trying to prove himself due to what went down with his parents. Huck tells Felix that he's the only one that doesn't think that he's great and points out that Felix is still wearing Will's jacket who probably thinks so too. Huck gets Felix to admit that he misses Will and insists that while Felix's parents dealt him a bad hand, she just wants him to be happy and wishes him a happy birthday. Their conversation is interrupted by a radio call stating that Hope is looking for him and that it's urgent.

At the Bennett home, Hope and Iris show Felix Leo's message that his safety isn't guaranteed. Felix points out that the science exchange with the Civic Republic is about building trust and that it's the first time that they have allowed anyone from outside within those borders wherever those are and that Leo is breaking a number of rules just by sending them messages. Hope insists that Leo could be in trouble and that they must tell someone, but Felix reminds her that Leo hadn't wanted them to tell anyone about the messages as they don't know what the Civic Republic will do when they find out. Felix insists upon honoring Leo's wishes which were meant to keep them safe and that if he is in trouble, they need to put their faith into Leo's security detail - Felix's boyfriend Will - and that they don't have another choice. Angry, Hope leaves, followed by Iris. As Felix leaves, he watches the girls head off together with a smile.

The next morning, Felix sits with Huck during Iris' Monument Day speech. Later, Felix reads his birthday card in which Hope reveals that they have taken his and Will's jackets, Felix's S-Pole and some food while Huck tells him that Marco Voci has reported his nephew missing. Felix recognizes that she's talking about Silas and tells Huck that Elton Ortiz from the Independent Dorm is gone as well. Sighing, Huck reveals that she had been training Hope to fight the dead and she guesses that if the group left together, they must be headed for Omaha which is where Hope had said that she wanted to go. However, Felix knows where they are actually going and he is convinced that they will die trying.

The following morning, Felix and Huck leave the Campus Colony together in search of Hope, Iris, Elton and Silas.

"The Blaze of Gory"[]

As Iris struggles to put down a walker, Felix appears in a flashback, teaching a class about how to put a walker down correctly with Iris doing exactly the opposite of Felix's instructions.

In the present, Felix and Huck discuss Kublek giving Hope and Iris a map of New York State where she claims that Leo is. Felix is shocked by Leo secretly sending messages to his daughters as it's not like Leo to take such risks. Huck states that everyone's acting out of love for each other and that Huck might've given Hope the reasons to believe that she can pull this off. As they cross through a rope fence, Felix states that Leo was risking the whole Alliance by sending his messages and Huck wonders if Felix really thinks that Leo and Will are in trouble. Felix brainstorms about what could possibly be the threat that Leo is talking about and expresses his dislike and distrust for the CRM and their absolute secrecy. Huck wonders if Felix is sure that they're on the right road, but Felix knows that they're heading east and what's to the east. Huck is sure that once they see it, the group will turn around and be happy that they have a home to go back to.

In a flashback, a young Felix returns home with his overtime check, only to have his father reveal that he had gone onto Felix's computer in order to access the job website the Felix had wanted him to try. Having read Felix's emails, Cliff confronts his son about his being gay and kicks him out once Felix confirms it despite Felix's attempts to argue with his father. Before leaving, Felix signs over his check and leaves it for Cliff despite Cliff refusing the money.

In the present, Felix and Huck locate the impaled walker that Iris had fought and unsuccessfully tried to put down. The two recognize that the others were responsible for this and Felix angrily tells Huck that Hope will be composting mulch for a year when he finds her. Huck questions Felix about why he only intends to punish Hope and not Iris and the others and Felix is incredulous at the idea that Iris may have been responsible for the group's actions but Huck suggests that she might be. Huck notices that something is bothering Felix, but he brushes her concerns off.

In a flashback, Felix runs through the chaos on the Night the Sky Fell, trying without success to call his parents.

The next day, as he and Huck walk down a street, Felix is haunted by memories of running through the streets on the Night the Sky Fell. Huck notices his distress and Felix admits that he used to live in the area. Felix finds an empty sliced peaches can that Hope had left behind which he recognizes as something that she had stolen from his apartment. Both acknowledge that it's surprising that the group didn't do a better job of covering up their tracks and continue on.

At night, Huck complains about how the air tastes which Felix explains is from the tire fire which means that both they and the others are close and should hit the Blaze sometime the next day. Huck argues for them to take a rest as they are going on 48 hours and Felix isn't even thinking right. Huck warns that if they don't rest, they'll "get whopped by the janitor kid when we find them." Ignoring Felix's protests, Huck heads for a nearby house and pounds on the garage door in order to see if there are any walkers inside. While she knows that Felix is worried for the others, Huck warns him that if he doesn't clear his head and start thinking about the big picture, he'll end up with a scar like hers or worse.

Sitting inside the house, Felix messes with his gun while Huck lies down on the couch. Huck confronts Felix about his refusal to either sleep or tell her about what's bothering him and he points out that she's barely told him anything about her past either. Huck jokes that she has her reputation as the strong silent type to think about and states that the past is the past. Felix finally explains that he was at the University the Night the Sky Fell and as soon as it started to get bad, Felix took off in an attempt to get back to his parents to see if they were okay and if he could be with them at the end which took him two days, mostly by foot. Huck gets that no matter how bad Felix's parents are, they are still his parents and she asks Felix if he ever reached them.

In a flashback, Felix finally reaches his parents' house amidst the chaos and with the lights still on, knocks on the door, calling out to his parents and begging them to let him get them somewhere safe. However, Cliff rejects Felix's help and turns off the lights while Felix desperately calls out to his mother that he's home. Rejected, Felix sits on the front step, crying.

In the present, Felix sniffs back tears and claims that it doesn't matter as the past is the past. Huck agrees and Felix tells her to get some sleep which she is happy to do while Felix sets a timer on his watch. Later, unable to sleep, Felix takes his jacket and his S-Pole and he leaves. When Huck wakes up to her watch alarm, Felix has returned and admits that he couldn't sleep even if he had wanted to. Huck spots dirt on the bottom of Felix's hand, but she doesn't comment on it as they leave.

As the group makes their way through the Blaze of Glory, Felix appears in another flashback to his class where he talks about how as long as they know what time it is, they always have a compass in the sky in the form of the sun to go by. However, if they lose that, they're flying blind. Felix warns his class that it's not about standing your ground, but survival and you don't always get to choose your direction and sometimes you don't get to know where you're going.

That night, Felix and Huck find Hope's "WE WERE HERE - THE ENDLINGS" sign. Felix is surprised by the Endlings part and Huck quips that the group now has a nickname. Felix realizes that one of the girls wants them to find the group, but he isn't sure which one, although Felix takes it as a sign that one of them doesn't want to do this and wants their help. As Huck starts to leave, refusing to let Felix sneak off like the night before, Felix spots a walker nearby and draws his S-Pole, moving towards it.

In a flashback to the night before, Felix leaves and returns to his parents' house where he hears the sound of walkers inside, meaning that his parents have died and turned. Crying and spotting his undead father moving around through the window, Felix draws his S-Pole and goes to the front door. However, before he can open it, Felix remembers his desperate attempt to get his parents to accept his help on the Night the Sky Fell and he is ultimately unable to enter and put his parents down, leaving instead.

In the present, Felix puts the walker down with his S-Pole, the same one that Hope had earlier trapped inside of a swimming pool. Huck asks if he is ever going to tell her where he went the previous night and Felix reveals that he had gone to kill his parents.

"The Tyger and the Lamb"[]

In a flashback, Silas and his uncle meet with Felix who tells Silas that his uncle has decide to sponsor him at the Campus Colony and that while Omaha is pretty great, he gets a fresh start at the Campus Colony. Felix notes that Silas wants to work with his uncle in the physical plant instead of going to school and Marco proudly calls Silas "the hardest worker you're ever gonna meet." Felix reassures Silas that if he ever changes his mind, school is still an option for him. Silas remains silent, but his uncle states that they appreciate the opportunity and he reassures Felix that no matter what anyone says, Silas is a good kid.

Having trouble opening a door, Elton calls out to Silas for help and when he gets it open, to everyone's shock, Felix and Huck appear on the other side. Felix and Huck demand to know where Hope is and the group tells them the story, although Iris claims that she had talked her sister into going. Felix asks if it was Silas and Elton then who had left the breadcrumbs and when they are confused, Huck explains that they had found an empty can of peaches on the street and graffiti sign - the trail one of them had left behind to get Felix and Huck there. Iris denies the fact that Hope would've left those clues behind for the two as Hope wants to find Leo as much as Iris does. Felix pressures Iris to tell him where Hope has gone and where the siren is, but she refuses, believing that if they go after her, Felix and Huck will only get themselves killed. Iris defiantly states that they have a plan and that this part of it is Hope's. While Iris hates it, right now it is their best chance of getting out of the Blaze alive and Felix will just have to trust Hope like the rest of them. Looking out the window, Huck agrees as there is a herd incoming and without some kind of distraction, they will never get out alive. As Felix and Huck talk to each other quietly, Elton reassures Silas that they can still get out of this and that it's not over, but Silas states that he knows that it will now go the same way that it always goes.

As the group waits to hear from Hope, Felix looks out the window at the large herd milling about and questions why Hope, who had wanted Felix and Huck to find them, would suddenly go on an apparent suicide mission into the Blaze. Iris explains that it's to spare Iris the responsibility of having to do it herself and she admits that while she doesn't know what's going on with Hope, it's not just about their father. To the interest of everyone, Silas admits that he thinks that he knows why: at the treehouse, the walker hadn't gone away by itself but rather Hope had led it away and then she had told Silas not to tell anyone else as well as the fact that their mistakes shouldn't have to follow them. When Felix wonders the point of this, Silas quickly states that it's because sometimes their mistakes do follow them and he thinks that Hope has done something that she feels badly about. Huck asks if Silas is out there because he's trying to get away from the things that he's done, but Felix admonishes Huck for her harsh words while Silas walks away followed by Iris.

Silas angrily bangs his fist on the table, making a dent and startling Elton and Iris. Suddenly, Hope contacts the others and informs them that she found the siren, but the crank was broken so she took the whole thing apart and now she can't figure out how to put it back together again. Iris gives the radio to Felix who demands to know where she is. Hope is surprised to hear from Felix who tells her that Huck is with him too. However, Hope refuses to tell Felix where to find him which would put him in even more danger. Hope resumes work on the siren and tells Felix that the second that she sounds the siren, it'll clear a path for them, but they need to haul ass. Elton is confused by Hope's terminology and, annoyed, Hope orders him to just run to the exit and she promises to meet them there. Hope has Felix give the radio back to Iris and Iris reassures her that she can do this, just like when they were kids. Hope asks Iris to promise not to come back for her if she doesn't make it to the exit in time and Iris makes that promises because she's sure that Hope is going to make it. Hope states that she wishes that she hadn't had a stupid fight with Leo before he left and that while she still wants to find him and see him, she didn't think that they'd be any good to him dead. Iris knows and promises that they will talk about it and make it out of the Blaze and she orders Hope to haul ass to the exit or Iris will kill Hope herself. Agreeing to no goodbyes, Iris flips Hope off again through the radio which Hope appreciates while Elton finally understands what she had meant by haul ass.

Felix orders everybody to get ready to move while Huck provides Silas and Elton with some extra masks that she and Felix had brought along. A distressed Silas tells Elton that he doesn't think that he can do it, but Elton and Iris express confidence in him. Elton hands Silas his bag and as Hope begins sounding the tornado siren, the group heads for an exit at the rear of the office. With the siren drawing most of the herd to the wall of the factory, the group runs through the mostly cleared path, Felix and Huck putting down a few walkers that get in their way with their S-Poles. When Hope struggles to make it due to injuring her leg, Iris rushes to her sister's rescue and they put down a pair of walkers together. Elton runs to support Hope's other side, helping her to run to the exit. However, while putting down a walker, Huck knocks into a wall of tires, causing it to collapse. Silas holds it up while the others rush through the gap between it and the wall next to it. Elton suddenly runs back through for his bag and gets back just in time before the wall collapses, the tires forming a blockade that prevents the herd from following the Endlings any further.

After escaping from the Blaze, the Endlings relax on a dock while laying most of their clothes out where Silas naps and Elton fishes. Later, as the Endlings eat, Felix approaches and tells them that they should pack up and leave. Iris questions where he wants to go and Felix informs them that they aren't going back through the Blaze and with the other options on foot not being much better, they head up to Omaha and resupply. The group can then return to the Campus Colony with the next transfer in about two weeks. However, Iris refuses to go back and Silas backs her up, telling Felix that this is the fresh start that he had promised him. Felix tells Silas that his uncle is worried sick about him, but while Silas misses his uncle, Silas believes that he's supposed to be out there and his uncle would want him to be where Silas is supposed to be. Elton declares that he's where he's supposed to be too and Hope agrees with the others. Hope tells Felix that if he really wants to keep his promise to their father, he will help the Endlings find him. Leo is in New York and Kublek has given them the map. Felix already knows this, but he's convinced that the Endlings are only going to get themselves killed trying like they nearly did back at the Blaze. Hope implores both Felix and Huck to come with them then, telling Felix that while he keeps saying that there's nothing that he can do to help their dad, he can help the Endlings help him. However, they are going with or without Felix's help or approval. Huck agrees that Hope has a point, telling Felix that they can't turn them around at least for the moment and that all they can do right now is to keep them safe "till there's something more we can do." While he's not happy, Felix reluctantly agrees and walks away.

Felix approaches Hope and Iris and tells them that they should go to Omaha as it's where safety is and their dad wants them safe, "not that either of you seem to care about that at all." Felix insists that their plan is a mistake and that they're going to eventually see it, he only just hopes that it won't take one of them getting hurt or worse before that happens. Iris asks if this means that Felix is saying that he's coming with them and with Iris confirming that they're not giving him an option, Felix confirms it, planning to come along at least until he can convince them to change their minds and go back. Felix is sure that he will eventually convince the Endlings to change their minds and Hope apologizes for dragging him into this, but admits that she's glad that he's with them, although Felix doesn't share the sentiment. Hope also apologizes for stealing Felix and Will's jackets even though they look really good on her and Iris. Felix states that they look better on him and Will and leads the Endlings, now including Felix and Huck, in continuing their journey.

"The Wrong End of a Telescope"[]

Walking down a path, Elton tells Iris that based on the coded map that she was given, the Civic Republic Research Facility is somewhere in New York, but she points out that they don't know where exactly it is yet. Felix calls out that it's all the more reason to turn around, but Hope simply calls it a nice try. Iris states that they might've taken a wrong turn, but this path should still lead to the interstate. Felix states that the bad news is that they are almost out of supplies and rain is coming. Huck states that it would've been one thing if the waystation that Will mentioned had panned out, but it didn't. Silas reassures the others that they will figure something out, surprising her with his smiling even in this situation.

Elton wonders where the Civic Republic itself is, but Iris points out that it's called the Hidden City for a reason and states that she had always pictured it as being underground. Elton agrees with her, but he points out that they refine their own fuel, fly helicopters and grow their own crops which can't all be done underground. Iris points out their research facility where Leo is located isn't actually where they are and that maybe the Civic Republic does all of that other stuff elsewhere too. Elton states that regardless, the Civic Republic's high resource output suggests that they have a large population, which causes their security approach of not saying where they are is understandable. Hope calls it shady which Elton agrees with along with the fact that the messages from Leo are certainly a cause for concern. However, if the Civic Republic has technology and agriculture and sophisticated governmental systems, it would be smart to stay hidden even if it makes others question their motives. Elton concludes that they should feel lucky that the Civic Republic hasn't taken over or taken things. Hope states that they don't know that, but Felix insists that they do since they trade with the Civic Republic as does Portland and Huck reminds the group of their joint protection agreements. Iris simply states that the CRM has their father and Felix acknowledges that they don't know anything about them at all. "Ergo the long walk, Champ," Hope sarcastically quips to Felix. The others walk ahead of the two adults and Iris finds and breaks the chain on a gate leading into a high school. Felix suggests that a place like this which is hidden from the world could be a good place to find supplies while Huck points out that it could also be a good place to ride out the rain and Iris is excited about the idea of being inside of a real high school for the first time.

Elton and Silas enter the auditorium with a large round trophy which Elton says that they can use to collect rain water. Entering, Felix tells the others that the school is huge with no sign of any walkers, but that doesn't mean that there aren't any around. Huck states that their priorities are food, clothes for Hope and anything that they can use to collect water as they can take advantage of the downpour outside for that. Huck agrees that the trophy that Elton and Silas have found is a good idea for catching rain and Iris suggests that they should split up in order to cover more ground. When Felix and Huck hesitate, Iris states that they can handle themselves and she quotes Felix's own words in class right back at him. Amused, Felix agrees and orders Silas to keep his radio on and takes Elton with him to collect water. Hope tries to talk to Iris as they haven't really spoken since the docks and she promises that they can talk later and states that she and Silas will take the first floor. Felix orders the others to keep their eyes open and their weapons drawn and to run if they see any walkers and to be careful. The Endlings split up with Hope pairing off with Huck, although she's not happy that her sister is avoiding her.

Elton watches as Felix tries to pick the lock on the chemistry lab with a paperclip and asks where he had learned how to do it. Felix simply says that he didn't learn it in high school as he gets the door open and bangs on the wall in order to attract any walkers that might be inside. With the room proving to be clear, Felix orders Elton to look for anything that can hold water for them. Elton takes a picture of a science fair sign and confirms that science is "pretty much my raison d'être, yeah." The two find a couple of boxes that they begin loading up with containers to hold water and Felix tells Elton that there's a lot of research going on back home, but Elton is more interested in seeing the world and studying it first hand instead of in books and laboratories. Felix questions where helping Iris and Hope find Leo fits in and Elton states that he's all about that too and that he is worried about Leo and he doesn't want them to worry. Felix points out that Elton barely knew them before and Elton jokes about just how much he knows about the girls now, including the gross details. "A monumental shared experience like this pretty much bonds you for life." Elton is excited when he finds a bottle of iodine which is great for water purification. Pleased, Felix tells him to grab the iodine and they are good to go.

Exiting the lab, the two find a trail of blood outside that wasn't there before. Elton speculates that its from a walker that was injured and dragged itself away, but seeing that the blood is fresh and uncoagulated, Felix is unconvinced. Felix tries to contact Silas and Iris on the radio without any success and he orders Elton to stay behind him as they follow the trail of blood. Unnoticed by the two, a walker crawls out of a nearby classroom behind them before suddenly being dragged back inside by a snarling animal.

Elton and Felix follow the blood trail and Elton suggests that instead of turning a blind corner and facing an unknown threat, they draw it out and face it on their turf instead of its. Felix simply chuckles and orders Elton to stay behind him before banging his S-Pole against a wall. In response, the two hear a banging noise and walker growling from a nearby locked locker. As Felix checks out the lockers, Elton is sent into a flashback of sitting inside of a small box as a young boy and he reveals to Felix that he's claustrophobic. Felix quickly determines that the trapped walker isn't going anywhere and he tells Elton that they should get moving. The two race down the hallway where Felix offers the panting Elton some water which he accepts. Felix acknowledges that Elton has his reasons for being out there, but none of them are ready for this. Felix admits that he's not even sure if he's ready for this himself. While there may not be something around the corner right now, sooner or later there will be. Crying, Felix shows Elton the tattoo that he got to remember everyone that he's ever lost including his parents and the person who taught him how to pick a lock. Felix refuses to lose anyone else and he states that he needs Elton's help to convince the others to turn around and Elton agrees to think about it.

Following the trail, the two find a wrecked classroom with a nest in it and a few torn apart bodies, including one that is a still-growling walker. Elton nervously asks if a walker was responsible for this, but Felix tells him that it wasn't. Elton takes a picture and Felix tells him that they need to get out of there and find the others as whatever was responsible might not be alone. Continuing down the hallway, Felix keeps trying to raise Silas and Iris before Elton spots them through a window in the gym. Felix calls out to the two, but the door is stuck and Iris tells him that there's no way of opening it. Iris and Silas inform Felix that there's a back way out that leads to the basement, but there's a walker there. Felix decides that he and Elton will go down and come back up through the other door and he will take care of the walker for them. However, Felix needs them to stay put until then as there is something else roaming the hallways and he doesn't think that it's friendly. Elton and Felix then leave to find the basement. The two arrive in the fallout shelter's pantry just as Hope and Huck are trying to get into the shelter itself where Iris and Silas are trapped with several walkers. Felix manages to break through the door and the group witnesses Silas violently beating a walker to death with his bare hands. As Felix puts down the other walkers, Elton tries to stop his best friend, only to get thrown to the floor by him before Felix manages to snap Silas out of it. Everyone stares at Silas in shock while Silas, staring at his own shaking hands, apologizes to his friends.

Later, Elton plays with his flashlight while holding an ice pack to his injured shoulder while Felix and Huck prepare their supplies nearby, including all of the water that they have collected. Huck compliments Elton's toughness and Elton thanks her, but he admits that he's more worried about Silas. After Huck leaves the room, Elton asks how Felix's plan to turn around would even work as going back through the Blaze of Gory would be suicide. Felix states that depending on how long it takes to convince everyone, there's ways around. Their last best chance is at the Mississippi River and Felix tells Elton that he and Huck could really use Elton's help on this one. Stating that this is how they keep everyone alive, Felix asks if Elton is in, but he doesn't answer.

In the auditorium, Felix checks that Silas, now cleaned up, is good which he confirms. Patting Silas on the shoulder, Elton reassures his best friend that he is before having the Endlings line up for a group picture together, much to the surprise and teasing of Iris due to Elton only ever using his camera to document things.

"Madman Across the Water"[]

Elton smiles at a sign for Daiquiritown on the side of the road. As the others walk by him, Iris and Silas, talking and laughing, Elton turns and follows his friends, smiling at Iris and Silas' jovial mood. Elton looks back at Felix who gives him a nod as they continue their journey.

That night, as the Endlings camp out and Felix and Huck set up protective netting, Elton works on continuing his mother's manuscript. Iris informs Hope that, according to Huck, the U.S. Military had blown up all of the bridge crossings over the Mississippi River when things went bad, meaning that the group will need a boat in order to get across. Huck warns the others that the crossing is going to be tough and the terrain on the other side of the river will be worse than anything that they've encountered so far and asks if they are ready to do this. Recognizing that Huck is once again trying to get them to turn back, Iris and Hope sarcastically agree with her that they aren't ready and that they should turn back. As Huck walks off, the two girls exchange fist bumps in victory while Elton chuckles.

Felix calls for Elton's help in untangling the lines of his net, but Elton knows that it's just a deception to get him alone. Showing Elton their map, Felix shows him what Felix believes to be the easiest route back around the Blaze of Gory. Felix and Huck plan to bring it up to the others soon and he wants Elton to lay some groundwork for them with the girls and Silas. Elton nervously points out that he had never actually agreed to the plan, but Felix counters that he had never actually said no either. Felix insists that the Mississippi is their last chance to get home safe and he needs Elton to get Silas, Iris and Hope to see that. Elton questions why they would listen to him and Felix tells Elton that they will because his friends care about Elton just as much as Elton cares about them and that has to count for something. Felix walks away, leaving Elton considering his words.

The next day, as the group continues their journey, Elton takes a picture of a decomposing walker that has plants growing out of it. Walking past a destroyed bridge and half-sunk boats, Hope sarcastically comments on their many options. Huck privately asks Felix for an update and he reveals to her that they might have Elton on their side, although in a perfect world they would have at least one more with them. Felix tells Huck that this is the only plan that they've got which she acknowledges and states that she is thus thinking ahead to Plan B. Huck suggests that it doesn't have to be all or nothing and that if Elton can get Silas to see the light, the best way to protect the group might be to have one of them keep going with the girls while the other one goes back with the boys. Obviously unhappy with this idea, Felix instead tells Huck that they might still have time to change some hearts and minds.

Reaching the end of the wharf, Elton suggests that the locals had used the boats kept there to evacuate when things got bad and that they are likely looking at the last of them. Iris decides that they will get creative and build their own boat which Hope supports. Felix is incredulous at the idea, but Iris suggests remodeling an old trailer nearby into a boat. While Elton tries to downplay the suggestion, Silas thinks that it could work if they fix it up and add stuff to it while Hope suggests that they can look for parts at a warehouse further north. With everyone else agreeing, the Endlings head for the warehouse, although Felix is visibly unhappy at the idea.

Arriving at the warehouse, the group taps on the outside in order to confirm that it's empty of walkers before entering. Hope is discouraged by the state of the warehouse, but Iris isn't quite so pessimistic about their chances of finding anything there. Iris and Hope find a few boxes of nail polish and Iris has the Endlings split up and keep looking for anything that might be useful to them. As Elton searches, he comes across the dead body of a walker against one of the shelves.

After completing their search, the group starts going over what they have found: barrels for flotation, straps for binding and fastening, a fan blade that could make a good propellor and a lot of pallets outside that can be broken up for wood as well as a tool box full of tools. Felix points out that they don't have an engine and that without that, they have nothing to fight the river's current. Elton states that there's not much left in the warehouse other than some long-dead batteries, a huge broken air conditioner and a couple of bags of sand. Iris comes up with the idea of using the air conditioner's parts to make some kind of steam boiler like how Hope had created a still back at the Campus Colony. Silas states that the steam boiler would be like the dorm furnaces that he had to fix and Hope figures that it's worth a shot. While Felix remains visibly unhappy, Huck agrees to try out their plan.

On the banks of the river, the Endlings work together on building their boat using the parts that they have gathered, even Felix despite his reluctance to go along with the plan. Felix eventually pulls Huck aside and tells her that the closer they get to finishing the boat, the harder it's going to be to sway the others to turning around and going home. Felix wants to make the pitch now while Huck and Elton will come in and back him up. While Huck knows that Felix is only trying to protect the group, she thinks that maybe it's time to let this plan go. As Felix and Huck argue, they fail to notice the fact that Hope has overheard their conversation.

After overhearing Felix and Huck discuss Felix's plan and Elton's part in it, Hope angrily confronts Elton about it. Elton admits that he has been working with Felix kind of and Hope flatly rejects to hear Felix out and accuses him of planning to sabotage the boat if he can't change their minds. Elton tells Hope that he's been listening to Felix and a lot of what he's saying about going back makes sense, but Hope angrily reminds him of how Elton had wanted to see the world from start to finish. Felix reveals that he had wanted them to take the boat downriver and then back up the banks of the Missouri River until they reached the Campus Colony. Felix calls this plan safer than cutting through the Blaze and the smartest thing for them right now, reminding Hope that they don't know where they're going, what they're going to do if and when they get there and they don't even know that Leo is really in trouble. Getting heated, Felix suggests that Leo could've sent them ten messages that he's fine since their departure. However, Hope knows that Felix doesn't really believe that last statement. Felix angrily tells Hope that it doesn't matter what he believes as Felix had made a promise to Leo to keep her and Hope safe and that is exactly what he intends to do. Hope accuses Felix of caring more about his promise than Leo's life, leading to an increasingly-heated exchange before Iris breaks it up, telling the two that they don't have time for this as there is still so much left to do. Iris orders them to "leave your shit at the door, because without each and every one of us giving 100%... we're not making it across that river." The argument ends and the Endlings go back to work.

Later, Felix approaches Hope and Huck, asking for a word alone with Hope and Huck leaves the two alone. While they both acknowledge that Hope is pissed at Felix, she tells him that she's more pissed at herself for being dumb enough to think that she could turn him over to their side. Hope reveals that she and Iris were extremely excited when Leo first took Felix in as they had thought that that they were going to get a brother. However, Hope states that they didn't get a brother because Felix never acted like one to them. Hope accuses Felix of rejecting every chance that their father had given him to be a real part of the family and seeing Hope and Iris as his problems rather than his sisters. Becoming emotional, Hope tells Felix that all Felix had to do was to be the one to tell Leo not to go and he would've listened as Leo trusts Felix more than anyone. While Hope knows that Felix had his reasons, she had still hoped that he would do something to stop Leo. Stating that the joke's on her and that it's time for her to grow up, Hope walks away, leaving Felix alone.

Later, Iris and Felix walk along the riverbank together towards Daiquiritown as a storm rolls in. Felix suggests that they get what they need fast as he doesn't like the sound of the storm coming in. However, they find Daiquiritown in bad shape. Standing in front of a map of the area, Iris asks if this was his plan and traces the river route that Felix had wanted to take back to the Campus Colony. Iris tells Felix that she's not mad and she asks him if he really thinks that her dad is safe. Felix tells Iris that he thinks that Leo and Will are safe, before admitting that they have to be safe because Felix was supposed to be the one to go with Leo and not Will. Leo had asked Felix to stay behind and watch after Iris and Hope and so Will took his place. As a result, Felix needs them both to be safe, especially because he is not there to protect Leo and Will if they're not. Iris admits that while she knew all of that, she had no idea how Felix actually felt about it. Felix states that he guesses that he didn't think that it matters, but Iris admonishes him, stating that when everything is burning down, the truth is all that matters. As the storm's thunder gets closer, Felix and Iris leave Daiquiritown, not noticing the growls of walkers and movement coming from inside. As Iris and Felix leave, Iris notices that her skin is getting tingly and she and Felix duck just before a plasma strike suddenly blasts a telephone pole and drops it onto Daiquiritown, agitating the walkers inside. A herd emerges and Iris and Felix quickly begin making a run for it.

As Hope continues to work on the boat, Huck warns that the storm is getting closer and Hope demands to know where Silas and Elton are. Suddenly, smoke pours from the boiler and Hope climbs up on top of the boat to tend to it with Huck. Felix and Iris arrive and begin to tell them something, but Huck tells them that they already know about the lightning storm heading their way real fast. Iris reveals that there's a herd of a couple of dozen walkers heading their way and that they are maybe only fifteen minutes out. Felix tells them that they don't have enough time and that they need to take cover, but Iris warns them that the rising water will wash the boat away and they can't risk that. Hope states that they'll launch before the shit hits, but Iris realizes that Silas and Elton are still missing.

Hope, Felix and Huck frantically rush to finish the boat, causing Hope to accidentally cut her hand in the process. Felix gives her a rag to wrap it up with as Silas and Elton finally arrive with the buckets of nail polish. Iris pours the nail polish into the steam boiler, causing the drive belt to begin spinning before fire comes out of the boiler and the drive belt stops moving. Spotting the herd approaching, Felix borrows Elton's fisherman and uses it to string up a makeshift net between two trees, holding back the herd temporarily. As the others work to repair the boat, Felix draws his S-Pole and keeps an eye on the herd as they push against his makeshift net. As walkers start to get around the net, Iris, Hope and Huck join Felix briefly in holding back the walkers before they return to the boat. Finally, Elton manages to fix the boat.

Running out of time with the herd approaching and their limited fuel, Iris, Hope, Huck, Elton and Silas work together and attempt to push the boat into the river. However, they are unable to move it at all. Feeling that they have no other choice, Hope decides that they need to abandon the boat and make a run for it against Iris' objections, but Felix appears with a plank of wood to use as a lever. As the herd closes in on them, the Endlings successfully launch the boat and set sail across the Mississippi River to Illinois.

That night, as the Endlings camp, Hope questions why Felix helped them in the end as, if he hadn't, they would've been forced to ditch the boat which would've given Felix more time to turn them around. Gathering food for the group from their supplies, Felix states that it wouldn't have done him any good and Iris and Hope are stubborn as shit. The two share a laugh and Hope tells Felix that Huck thinks that this will be good for them and that it will turn them into the people that they are supposed to be. Observing Huck looking at a map, Felix agrees that they'll see and that it was never just about a promise that Felix had made to Leo. Hope tells Felix that she knows that and that she hadn't left those clues behind just so that Felix would come and turn them around, she was also hoping that he'd join them. However, Felix is with them now which is what matters. Felix approaches Huck and confirms with her that she's alright with their change of plans. Huck promises that they'll keep the group safe and when they find Leo and Will, they'll keep them safe too.

Huck proposes that for now, they divide and conquer and she explains to the group that she's going to spend the next day or two scouting ahead. Their intel is weak for this side of the river and they are only as solid as their intel. Hope is surprised that Huck is going off on her own, but she promises to be back within 48 hours at the most and until then, they are in good hands with Felix. With a pat on the shoulder to Felix, Huck ducks under the netting strung around the camp and leaves on her scouting mission.

"Shadow Puppets"[]

Aiming his stick at the Endlings, the boy demands that they stay back as Hope tries to get answers from him. The argument turns into a standoff before Felix come up from behind and holds the boy at gunpoint. Felix forces the boy to disarm himself and sends Elton and Silas to check the perimeter just in case there is anyone else with the boy. Iris pats him down for weapons and the boy insists that he was alone and taking a leak in the bushes when he heard voices. Hope asks if his intention was to rob them while Hope determines that the boy is unarmed. Iris asks where his food is, but the boy tells them that he doesn't have anything. Silas and Elton confirm that there are no signs of anyone else and the boy introduces himself as Percy.

Iris invites Percy to have something to eat and he tells them a story about two guys that he had met, Mike and Tony, who had robbed Percy a couple of days before. They had gone to a settlement that they'd heard was friendly to newcomers, but they had heard wrong. Hope sarcastically suggests that the people there might've just not liked Percy, but Percy ignores her and explains that they had found a place to camp out and when he woke up, Mike, Tony and his stuff were all gone. Percy thinks that they are in Andersonville down the road and he intends to go there and get his stuff back. Felix suggests that Percy just be grateful that they left him with his life and move on, but Percy responds that "this isn't a vigilante type deal and it ain't about the principle of it all either. Some things just can't be replaced" which Elton understands.

A little while later, Silas goes over to where Felix is stretching out extra netting around the camp which Felix is explains is an extra precaution just in case Percy is lying and his friends show up. Looking at where the others are laughing with Percy, Silas suggests that they can just give him some of their supplies now so that he can go, but Felix points out that Percy doesn't seem to be in a rush to leave.

Hope becomes suspicious of Percy's story, wondering how he had gotten from Wyoming to Florida in just a couple of months. Percy quickly tries to claim that he misspoke, but as Felix and Silas rejoin them, Hope accuses Percy of lying about someone stealing his supplies and, as Iris and Felix try to calm her down, she accuses Percy of having his car stolen which instead which is what he really wants back. After a moment of silence, Percy finally explains that a year before, he had found a truck that had skidded onto the ice. The accident must've just happened since the engine was still warm and the driver was becoming a walker. Silas asks why Percy had lied and he explains that it's not just a working truck, it's one that's carrying barrels of refined fuel which is worth a lot in the current world.

Iris offers Percy a deal: the Endlings help him to get his truck back and Percy drives them where they need to go. Felix believes that it's too risky, but Iris points out that with the truck, they will get there in half the time and they can avoid walkers and running out of supplies. Hope suggests that they wait for Huck to return as backup, but Iris points out that Mike and Tony could be gone by then. Iris believes that the six of them together can overpower the two men and although Felix is worried that they might have guns, Percy states that he had never seen any guns with them. Silas worries that they will have to hurt Mike and Tony or get hurt in return, but Elton states that they have the element of surprise on their side which will give them an advantage. Percy questions how he knows that they won't just steal his truck and leave him in the dust, but Iris promises that they won't which Silas reinforces. However, Percy is skeptical as that doesn't mean much out here. Iris pleads with Percy, telling him that they need to get where they're going fast and it could be the difference between their dad living and dying. Felix points out that if they had wanted to steal Percy's truck, they would just do it with or without his help, reminding Percy that he's already told them where to look. Felix proposes that at dawn, they go and find the truck.

The next day, as the Endlings and Percy make their way towards Andersonville, Iris, Percy and Silas walk together with the others close behind and Iris expresses surprise that Percy has read Hamlet. Percy offers to fix Silas' boot for him and Iris asks if Percy knows any other good tricks, telling him that they've only been out of the Campus Colony for a month. Percy asks why that is given the cushy situation with modern amenities and Silas tells him that it wasn't as good as it sounds. Iris explains that the university is like a bubble and Percy warns her that if they aren't careful, they are going to get themselves killed out here. Iris states that they had made it through an inferno of walkers and crossed the Mississippi River while reminding Percy that, in comparison, he had gotten robbed and started a fight with a twig. Iris finally reveals that the real reason that they are out there is because of her dad who was sent to work on a project, but he is currently in trouble. After Iris tells him that they are out here to find and save Leo, Percy calls them lucky for still having someone to save which is even rarer than a working car. As Iris and Percy talk, Silas drops back to walk with Felix who recognizes that Silas really doesn't like Percy which he confirms, stating that he doesn't know why anyone else does. Felix simply tells Silas that we can't always control who we like.

The group reaches Andersonville where, hiding beside a building, Felix spots a curtain blowing in a nearby window before Percy's truck comes down a nearby street and passes in front of them. Percy confirms that it's his truck and the Endlings follow after it. Observing where the truck has been parked, the group discusses possible options and, while Felix wants to get eyes on both men before they move in, Percy just wants to smash and grab it back, stating that even without the keys, he can still hotwire the truck. Silas objects to doing this at all and Hope states that they need to make a decision either way. Felix decides to have the rest of the group stay in their hiding spot while he covers Percy.

Percy and Felix make their way to the truck and, as Percy opens the door, Felix keeps a lookout. Percy suddenly swears and reveals the body of Tony in the front seat. Percy and Felix pull Tony's body from the truck and place him nearby with Percy suggesting that the bickering between Tony and Mike had gotten much worse. Percy discovers that a plate has been bolted over the ignition wires and he begins searching for the keys in the truck and on Tony's body as the rest of the group joins them. Percy is unable to find the keys, but he retrieves a knife from Tony's body and insists on getting the keys back from Mike, stating that he's going to get the keys back with or without their help. While Hope and Felix want to go back to the campsite, Iris decides to go and help Percy. After Iris refuses to relent, Felix gives Iris his bag and decides to go in her place. Elton suggests keeping a lookout at the front of the building in case Mike isn't there and he decides to come back. Hope changes her mind and decides to come with Elton and Felix as backup while they leave Iris and Silas behind to look after their gear.

Finding a clothing store to be the only one not boarded up, Felix orders the other two to stay outside while he enters and joins Percy who tells Felix that he thought that he had heard something moving in the back. Felix orders a flanking maneuver with Percy going left while Felix goes right. If Mike gets the jump on one of them, the other one comes in from the side. Searching through the store, Felix encounters a walker in a changing room and puts it down by jamming his gun barrel through its head. As he continues, Felix is shocked to hear a gunshot and he encounters and puts down another walker with his S-Pole. At the same time, Percy and Tony steal their bags and escape in the truck.

After Iris gets trapped in a dumpster chasing after Percy, Felix, Elton and Silas work together to use Silas' Wrench to break open the gate on the dumpster's enclosure. With a herd approaching, Felix orders Silas and Elton to hold them off while he manages to open up the dumpster and put down one of the walkers attacking Iris. Percy suddenly returns and saves Iris from the second one while Tony returns in the truck, running over several walkers and yelling at the Endlings to get in. The group quickly jumps in the back of the truck and Tony drives off as the herd closes in, running over the head of a fallen walker in the process.

After reaching safety, the Endlings confront Percy and Tony about their con. Percy admits that they did in fact con them, but he states that they came back to help them when they saw the herd coming. Hope argues for just taking the truck and leaving Percy and Tony to the walkers, but Tony angrily reminds them that they had just saved their lives, explaining that when they saw the herd coming, Percy, who is his nephew, had him turn around. Felix asks if they should just be grateful that the two grifters had changed their minds, but Tony states that "out here, that's pretty much as good as it gets."

Later, the Endlings sit around their campfire where Tony displays a magic trick to them, much to the amazement of Elton, Silas and Felix while Iris is despondent over the events. Hope asks if Tony is just a professional scammer and Tony introduces himself in a grandiose fashion as Tony Delmado, the resident illusionist at the Paradise Lounge in Las Vegas for fifteen years. Tony is impressed with Elton's knowledge of magic and tells everyone that he had dabbled in a lot of things including illusions, card tricks and ventriloquism, the latter of which comes in handy with the state of the world as it is. As far as Tony is concerned, he's still in show business: for a small fee at friendly settlements Percy and Tony will perform which is why his makeup job to look dead is flawless. Hope asks if Percy is Tony's protegee and he explains that Tony had raised him after Percy's mom took off. Tony calls Percy a quick study who was grifting kids in the sandbox and Percy tells everyone that it's how they get what they need without hurting anyone. Upset, Iris sarcastically tells them that they deserve medals or something and leaves.

As Tony works on the truck, Felix approaches him, telling Tony that they need to talk. Tony acknowledges that they both want the truck, but only he knows where to get more fuel for it. Felix wonders if Tony is trying to play or threaten him, but Tony tells him that he intends to make good on Percy's promise to give them a ride. Tony asks about the Alliance of the Three logo on Felix's jacket and he tells Tony that it's the emblem of the university where they live. Ordering Felix not to bullshit him, Tony peels back some paper on the passenger's side door of the truck that is covering up the same logo, revealing that it had originally belonged to the CRM. Tony knows that whatever group's behind the logo doesn't mess around and that they're close, having seen their helicopters flying around. Felix asks why he doesn't just leave if it's so dangerous, but Tony tells him that it's a good thing that he searched the driver's pockets when they took the truck as he's found something that points them to a refueling station nearby. Tony has a routine down for how to get what they need and avoid the CRM and when Felix points out that he didn't avoid them, Tony calls them a rag-tag group of kids in leather compared to the heavily armed CRM. After Felix claims that his patch can get them out of a bind if they get into one, Tony tells him that they'll pick up Huck tomorrow and they will ride to wherever the group wants to go.

That night, Iris leans against Hope as Percy and Tony set up a shadow puppet show, but she is still obviously upset when she sees Percy. Watching Percy, Silas comments to Felix that some people make it look easy starting over. Iris admits to Hope that she wishes that she knew which part of Percy is the lie and which is real, but Hope calls Percy the same as them, everyone having parts that they want people to see and other parts that they want to hide, but it's all real. Percy and Tony put on a show depicting the end of the world which the Endlings enjoy, although they grow somewhat more somber and Hope starts silently crying as the story gets sadder and sadder.

"Truth or Dare"[]

While traveling along a river, Huck hides when a truck approaches her, only to have Felix whistle and wave to her from the passenger's seat. Felix jokes about Huck being blown away by his haircut and she fondly calls him a jackass.

After rejoining the rest of the group, Huck approaches Felix who is eating alone and offers him a Mountain Dew that she found in some crates behind an old gas station. Noticing Huck's watch, Felix asks what else found besides the watch and Huck reveals that she spotted a big herd moving south and a lot of blocked roads along the main route. However, as long as they keep to side streets, they should be good. Huck notes that Felix had found a couple of conmen in a stolen CRM truck, but Felix reassures Huck that Tony and Percy are alright and with their truck, the Endlings can reach New York in days instead of weeks. Although Huck points out that they don't have enough fuel to get to New York, Felix reveals that Tony has a lead on where they can get some more.

That night, Tony dramatically presents a CRM map to the Endlings which has no landmarks designated or points of interest labeled. While the map, to all appearances, looks to be useless, looks can be deceiving. Percy brings his uncle a wooden box with a few plastic squares and Tony holds one up, explaining that when Percy first discovered them in the truck, they had reminded Tony of the colored lenses that he used in his Prism of Light illusion. As a result, Tony has discovered that you set the squares up at proper distances, shine a beam of light through them and symbols appear on the map, in this case, oil drops, which Tony identifies as hidden CRM fuel caches and all of the gas that they need. Percy adds that the ones that he and Tony have hit so far have mostly just been shacks with landing pads and they were all unmanned and unguarded where helicopters touch down, refuel and take off again. Huck is excited, stating that she can't believe it, while Iris becomes intrigued.

Left alone by the kids, Tony asks Felix and Huck where they are going exactly, but Felix admits that they don't know yet, much to the confusion of Tony. Felix levels with Tony, explaining that Hope and Iris' father is at a Civic Republic Research Facility somewhere in New York. If the CRM even knew that they were even trying to find one of their facilities, everyone in the group could be in danger. While Tony and Percy aren't averse to danger, he is dubious about their plan since they are flying blind, but Huck promises that they will figure it out even if that mean flying blind until they do.

Later, the Endlings gather around the table where Iris shows them the CRM map that Kublek had given to her and Hope before they left the Campus Colony. While some of the markings on the decoder overlays didn't form symbols on Tony's map, when she tries them on this map, they do. Iris points to a symbol on the map that Elton recognizes as a DNA strand. Felix realizes that Iris thinks that it's the research facility and she asks him what else it could be. Hope is excited that they now know where to find their father and while Silas smiles at first, he gets upset and jealous when he sees Iris and Percy smiling at each other.

Standing alone with Tony at the table, Felix charts out the location on their regular map of New York and he determines that the research facility is located in Ithaca, New York. Listening to the kids laughing upstairs, Tony remarks that it's nice for Percy to be spending time with kids his own age, but Felix warns Tony that he saw Percy go upstairs with a bottle of his booze. Felix suggests that he could go check on them, but Tony tells him to leave the kids be to be teenagers as they deserve some celebration, as does Felix after his exciting discovery. Walking by, Huck agrees with Tony and tells the two men that she's going on a perimeter check and she will be back. Noticing how downtrodden Huck seems to be, Felix asks if she's alright, but she just claims to be tired. After Felix gives her a look, Huck admits that she took out a walker that morning that was wearing the EGA which has brought back some memories for her that are both good and bad. Felix realizes that he was a Marine, but Huck corrects that the man still is, as is she.

As Huck leaves, Tony dramatically presents a flask to Felix and suggests that they have a drink of their own which Felix accepts. Getting drunk together, Felix fills Tony in on their mission and Tony tells him that Leo and Will sound like good people. Felix states that they are, but he isn't even sure if what the group is doing is going to help them or put them in more danger. However, Tony has learned that you can't predict the future and he was a man of many vices before all of this, playing chicken with rock bottom. Tony didn't even know who Percy was until his sister, who is Percy's mother, split up with her husband and Tony was appointed his nephew's legal guardian by the courts. Tony excitedly tells Felix that it was like his prayers had been answered as, with all of the money that he got from the state for taking care of Percy, it was like he hit paydirt. "Thing was, he wasn't with me more than a day before I knew I'd give my life for his. Family. It's a thing. Who knew?" Listening to the others' laughter, Felix takes another drink and agrees with Tony.

The next day, the Endlings drive to the CRM fuel depot where Hope, Iris, Felix, Huck, Percy and Tony stand outside of the entrance while Silas and Elton wait by the truck. Tony tells the others that there is a stash of refined CRM fuel just ripe for the taking somewhere inside and Huck notes that it's a big place, deciding that they will split up, start at the bottom and work their way up. Felix asks if these places are clear of walkers which Percy confirms as far as they can tell since the CRM keeps their things locked up pretty tight. However, this isn't a problem for them as Percy, Tony and Felix are good at lockpicking. Iris tells the others that they should still stay alert nevertheless and they head out with Hope taking a moment to look back at Silas and Elton.

Felix and Tony climb down a ladder and Felix asks Tony what he and Percy will do once they get the group to where they're going. Tony guesses that it will be more of the same: moving, conning and surviving which is what they do. With a laugh, Felix says that he gets that and Tony tells Felix that Percy had to grow up fast out here and that he doesn't know any other way. Felix admits that Percy reminds Felix a lot of himself when he was Percy's age, living on the streets where survival was everything. Then Felix met Leo and he showed Felix that there was more and that he could be more. Tony tells Felix that that was another time and that things are different now. Felix suggests that maybe it doesn't have to be and smells something. Checking out a pipe, Felix notes that the CRM had taken the time to stash this supply good. Felix turns the valve on the pipe and sniffs the gas that comes out of it before the two men notice a cabinet that looks new with Flammable written on it.

After hearing a gunshot, Iris, Felix, Percy and Tony rush in and ask what happened, but Hope simply tells them that Huck saved her. Huck tells the others that Walter had radios and supplies while Felix reveals that they found the fuel. Flipping through some notebooks, Tony states that they found something else too locked in a cabinet. Percy asks what they are and Tony calls them something to potentially work with.

After the Endlings stop at a recreation center for the night, Iris stops Silas in the hallway, telling him that Tony has something that he wants to say to the group. Tony announces that after talking it over with Felix, he and Percy have decided to extend the terms of their agreement with the others. Percy states that instead of just dropping them off, he and Tony want to stick around and do what they can to help them find Leo. Felix orders everyone to get some sleep as they leave first thing in the morning and Tony heads off to charge up the radios and top off the tank while Hope and Iris hold each other's hands for a moment. Percy asks Iris to see her by the truck in an hour, telling her that it's just gonna be him there and that he needs to get his gloves back. Iris tries to give Percy back his gloves immediately, but he claims that his hands aren't cold now but that they will be in about an hour. Iris agrees and she walks off while Silas watches jealously and eyes Percy's liquor.

Awhile later, looking for Percy, Iris finds Tony with his head bashed in in one of the bathrooms. Calling for help, Iris notices Silas' Wrench lying bloody next to Tony's dead body and a trail of blood leading to a broken window that she realizes must've come from Percy. Felix runs in and stares at Tony's body in shock while Hope, Elton and Huck run in and join them. Drawing his gun and having Huck cover him, Felix makes his way to where somebody is visible in a stall. Opening the door, Felix is shocked to find Silas passed out with a bottle of liquor next to him and covered in blood. Silas wakes up and looks silently at Felix.

"The Sky Is a Graveyard"[]

As Silas sits tied up outside, Hope, Iris, Elton, Felix and Huck argue about Silas' culpability in Tony's murder and Percy's disappearance. Iris insists that someone else must've been responsible and that Silas isn't a murderer, but Huck points out that they've seen Silas lose control before and that Silas was drunk, blacked out and woke up covered in Tony and Percy's blood. Iris argues that Silas could've stumbled on Tony and Percy just like them, but Felix states that Silas has told them that he doesn't remember. While Felix believes Silas, they have to look at the hard facts: Silas was angry and he didn't like Percy. Iris points out that Tony and Percy were grifters who must've had enemies and she suggests that someone that they had ripped off came back for revenge. However, Huck informs Iris that they have turned the recreation center upside down and found no sign that anyone else was ever there and if someone was, they would've taken Tony and Percy's things. In contrast, Silas was found passed out at the scene, his wrench covered in Tony's blood. While Hope doesn't want to believe it either, she reminds Iris that Huck is right and they've seen Silas lose it before and they've all heard the stories about Silas' dad. Elton sides with Iris, telling the others that Silas is their friend and he has earned their trust. Elton believes that there must be another explanation of some kind such as wild animals or marauders even. Iris states that they never found Percy's body and he may still be alive and need their help and Elton hopes that Percy could tell them what actually happened. However, Felix states that they had searched for Percy for hours and only found a trail of blood that had stopped at the river. Even if Percy had survived his injuries, Felix doesn't think that Percy could fight the current and has most likely drowned. Elton questions why Silas would attack the people that were trying to help them and Huck states that she has an idea of why and leaves the room. Returning inside, Huck starts going through Silas' belongings against Elton's protests. Huck pulls out several drawings, telling the others that she had seen them when they were camped out a few nights before and that it wasn't her business until now. While Elton is confused by the significance of the drawings, Iris recognizes them as her own.

Later, as Felix looks out the window at Silas, Huck reminds him that the rules state that they need to take Silas to Omaha where he can be arrested and tried for murder. Huck asks if he intends to turn the group back, but Felix suggests that Huck take him alone instead, knowing that now that they know where the research facility is, there is no getting Hope and Iris to turn back. Huck points out that Silas is twice her size and she couldn't stop Silas if he simply chose to refuse to go anywhere with her. The two know that the decision falls upon them, but Felix isn't sure if they should take Silas with them or leave him behind.

Felix approaches Silas who silently refuses his offer of a drink and Felix recognizes that asking how Silas is doing is a stupid question. Felix promises that if Silas needs anything from them, he just has to holler, and Silas asks if Iris is alright as Felix starts to walk away. Felix points out that one of Iris' friends is dead and Silas wonders aloud about the possibility that it wasn't him. While Felix wants to help him, he needs Silas to give him something to work with, but Silas can't remember anything just like his dad who also couldn't remember anything when he blacked out either. Having read Silas' file, Felix reminds him that Silas was never convicted and that Gary's death was ruled to be self-defense. Felix asks if it really was self-defense, but Silas reminds Felix that he had promised Silas a fresh start. Felix points out that he has one, maybe two, dead people on his hands and people inside that Felix has to keep safe and he wonders if he should trust Silas to stay in control and to not put everyone else into danger. Silas simply says that he doesn't want to be like this, like his dad which Felix acknowledges before walking away.

Sometime later, Felix patrols as Iris and Elton lay on the floor, unable to sleep. Iris and Elton observe Felix and Huck arguing as they talk.

The next day, after Silas chooses to exile himself from the group, Huck asks if Felix thinks that Silas will come back for them. However, Felix doesn't think that Silas will be back, suggesting that Silas might now finally get the fresh start that he'd wanted.

"The Deepest Cut"[]

As Huck drives, Iris falls asleep in the passenger seat and she looks into the back where Hope and Felix are sleeping against each other. Huck spots a road sign revealing that Ithaca is only 113 miles away. Seeing a fallen sign in the middle of the road, Huck swerves, damaging a tire and drives the truck off of the road, waking up the others. Huck begins backtracking the group to a location a mile or two back that she claims can act as shelter for them and which maybe has something that they can patch the tire with. Felix accepts this due to how cold it is. As they walk, Felix suggests to Huck that the group moving on without Silas and Elton might be karma. Huck is annoyed and asks Felix when he started believing in karma, but Felix doesn't respond.

In a flashback, Felix performs an intake interrogation on Huck soon after her arrival at the Campus Colony. Felix questions Huck about how she had ended up in Omaha, but she claims not to remember much. Felix asks her about the name "Huck" and she explains that it's a nickname, joking that "Scarface was taken." The interrogation is interrupted by Will Campbell who explains that he's there to do a security intake, but Felix states that that's what he's doing. Confused, Will tells Felix that he can stop and explains that he was assigned by Dr. Bavolar because Omaha Police had submitted Huck due to her being former military. Pouring a cup of coffee, Felix tells Will that he knows who she is as Felix has read Huck's file. Felix has been doing security clearances for four years now unassisted, but Will tells him that he doesn't have a doctorate in criminal psychology and a master's in behavioral psychology.

Admitting that he doesn't, Felix apologizes, recognizing why security would want a psych specialist. Will states that Dr. Bavolar thought that he and Felix could conduct the interview together and that it will help to have someone with Felix's experience in the room. Will and Huck introduce themselves to each other and Will states that Huck will be undergoing a battery of psychological tests. Huck asks if she can't "just blame everything on my mother and be done with it?"

Huck brings the group to a stop, spotting a small herd in the fog. Ordering Felix to hold his light steady, Huck shoots one of the walkers with a silenced pistol before Iris realizes that they are all caught in something. Looking around with her own flashlight, Iris sees that it's barbed wire as walkers surround them. Huck realizes that they will have to fight their way past and she orders the others to watch themselves as she and Felix deploy their S-Poles. Huck saves Felix when he falls into trouble while Hope and Iris are cornered by three walkers, one of which Hope stabs in the throat with her flashlight. Seeing them in trouble, Huck gets in close and takes out all of the walkers with one silenced shot. Felix then manages to clear the Endlings a path out of the herd and to safety.

The next morning, as they continue down the road, Felix wraps a cut on the back of his leg up in gauze. Although Huck expresses concern, Felix assures her that it's just a little slice from the barbed wire that the herd was caught up in. The Endlings reach the Red Maple where Huck breaks the door down and tells the others that the sooner that they can find something rubber and waterproof, the sooner they can get back on the road. Looking at a brochure, Hope comments that the place looks haunted while Felix guesses that it must've been evacuated, but he warns them that they still need to be careful. The group splits up with Huck and Iris going to look upstairs and Hope and Felix downstairs.

After everyone finishes their search, Huck tells Felix that the Red Maple is a bust and they'll have to ditch the truck and go the rest of the way on foot. Huck insists that she's sure and, looking at a map, tells Felix that there's some mountainous terrain 90 miles northeast and asks if he's up for some climbing with his injured leg. With Felix stating that he is, Huck leaves to round up Hope and Iris and she tells Felix to meet them outside in five minutes. Left alone, Felix unwraps the bandage on his leg, looking at the cut underneath.

In a flashback, Felix and Will lay in bed together, kissing. Felix and his boyfriend joke about Will leaving his old leather jacket at Felix's place before Will gets up to make breakfast on the condition that Felix makes them dinner. Will suggests that the one thing that they're missing is a dog, but Felix rejects the idea even though there is a dog adoption event that day in the East Quad. Will asks about Felix's bad mood and Felix admits that Leo had told him the night before that he wants Felix to stay behind and watch the girls while he's gone. Will reminds Felix that if he joins Leo's security team, he will be gone for months, maybe even years. Felix tells Will that Leo thinks that Will is good for him and he wonders if Leo wants him to stay at the Campus Colony because Felix has Will there. Will reminds Felix that he's allowed to be happy, but Felix is conflicted as he owes Leo everything and Leo didn't have to take him in like he did after Felix's parents kicked him out for being gay. Although Will wants Felix to ask Leo to go with him, Felix states that he can't as Leo has made him promise to watch Hope and Iris. Will recognizes that Felix can't trust anyone else to take care of things, pointing out that his boyfriend is so controlling that he didn't even trust Will to make him a cup of coffee. "Just because someone saved your life, doesn't mean that you have to live the rest of it for them," says Will.

Continuing their journey, the Endlings encounter a blockade made out of shipping containers and a bus. Seeing another one past it, Felix tells the others that they should go around through an alley on the other side. However, Hope simply climbs over the front of the bus followed by the others. When Felix climbs over after them, Felix falls backwards due to his leg injury bothering him.

The group carries Felix back to the Red Maple where Hope is surprised by how bad Felix's leg was injured in the fall. Felix explains that it didn't and he'd nicked his leg on some barbed wire while fighting the herd while Huck adds that he rolled it when he jumped. Felix apologizes for hiding the extent of his injury, promising that it's not that bad and that he'd started on some antibiotics before they left just in case and he can handle the pain. Iris assures the others that it will heal and Huck suggests that the girls try to find something to keep it stable and keep some of the pressure off of it. Once Hope and Iris are gone, Huck takes a closer look and tells Felix that they both know that he isn't going anywhere for awhile.

In a flashback, Felix and Will eat dinner with Hope, Iris and Leo. Felix brings up how the CRM is adding a second person to join Romano on Leo's security detail which Leo confirms. While Felix had thought that it might be Dwyer, he had asked and she said that it wasn't her. Felix is surprised that Leo isn't just asking who he wants before Will admits that the second person is him. Felix is shocked and Leo quickly asks Hope and Iris to get dessert ready so that the three adults can talk alone. Felix asks why Leo would do this, but Will explains that it's not Leo's fault as Will had asked to be the one to go. Leo explains that Will had told him that this is what Felix really wanted but was too afraid to ask. Leo promises Felix that he's only ever wanted what's best for him and leaves to go check on Hope and Iris in order to give Felix and Will time alone together.

Will explains to Felix that he is going for Felix's sake so that Felix doesn't have to worry about Leo. Will hopes that when he's back, maybe things can be different. Felix asks if Will means that he needs Felix to be different and Will professes his love for Felix, telling his boyfriend that it is not up to Felix to carry everybody else. Felix needs to figure out how to let that go and to put his trust into other people, into Will.

In another flashback, Iris asks Felix if the transport to Omaha is ready to go and he confirms it, stating that a CRM helicopter will pick them up there. Felix asks where Hope is, but Iris tells her that she's not coming. Leo enters and explains that Hope is still angry that he's leaving. Iris leaves to get the rest of Leo's bags, leaving Felix, Will and Leo alone. Felix apologizes to Leo about Hope and Leo tells him that he keeps reminding himself that anger is just the soul's attempt to avoid sadness and that some people can't bear to say goodbye. Leo warns Felix that you can't outrun pain which will just sit patiently waiting for you to get too tired to run. Leo then leaves Felix and Will alone to say goodbye. Turning to his boyfriend, Felix asks Will to make him a cup of coffee, symbolically letting go his need for control and placing his trust in Will. Will protests that Romano is waiting downstairs with the transport, but Felix states that Romano can wait and Will smiles in agreement.

In the present, Felix hobbles into the living room where Iris is looking at a map. Although Iris thinks that highways will be easier, Felix is intent on sticking with the original plan even though Felix knows that it's impossible for him to hike. Iris insists that Felix is still coming with them, but Felix tells her that they don't need him anymore and that Iris is more than capable of getting the Endlings the rest of the way without him. Felix believes in Iris and who she is becoming and the two start crying. Hope and Huck enter and Huck announces that they will leave first thing in the morning and that once they find out what's up with Leo, they'll be back for Felix. Felix and Huck hug and Huck tells him not to worry about this as they've got it. Felix knows that they do and he expresses his love for Huck, leading to a laugh between the two. As Felix says his goodbyes, Iris angrily storms out, calling it bullshit.

In a flashback, it's revealed that during the fight with the herd, Huck had secretly injured Felix's leg with her S-Pole in order to slow the group down.

The next morning, an alarmed Iris wakes up Felix, telling him that Hope, Huck and their belongings are gone. Felix realizes that his gun is missing as well, having been stolen by Hope.

"In This Life"[]

His foot now in a makeshift splint, Felix gets up and tests how well he can move in it. Iris still can't believe that Hope and Huck had left without saying goodbye, but Felix suggests that sometimes it's easier that way. Iris knows that Hope wasn't acting like herself the day before, incredibly pissed off and trying to pick a fight. When Felix asks why, Iris admits that she had told Hope something that she didn't want to hear.

As Felix sits down to put his boot back on, Iris explains that she had told Hope that she thinks that something is off with Huck and that she doesn't trust her. Felix wonders why Iris would say such a thing, but Iris insists that it's true, pointing out that Huck has her own gun and plenty of bullets, yet she seemingly took Felix's as well. Felix is doubtful, stating that just because Silas isn't who they thought he was, "Huck isn't Huck." Despite Felix's denials, Iris is insistent that Huck is hiding something and that she's untrustworthy.

Iris remembers that there's only one room in the Red Maple that they haven't searched because Huck claimed that it was filled with bodies. Checking the room, Felix and Iris are shocked to discover it filled with supplies that they could've used to fix Felix's ankle or the tire on the truck. Iris realizes that Huck purposefully hid the supplies as she didn't want them to fix their problems and Felix, grabbing supplies off of the shelves, is confused by Huck's actions and why Huck would've left with Hope. Looking at the oxygen tanks, Iris suggests that when they catch up to them, Felix can ask Huck himself.

At the truck, Iris patches the tire while Felix pumps it back up with the oxygen tanks from the Red Maple. With the tire holding, Felix hopes that with any luck, they'll get about 50 miles out of it, but Iris tells him that if Hope and Huck stick to the planned route, they only need to get 20 miles and cut them off at Murray Road. As Iris gets into the passenger side of the truck, Felix tells her that its a stick shift and with his injured foot, he can't work the clutch. Iris realizes that Felix wants her to drive, but she tells him that she can't as she never learned. Taking the passenger seat, Felix guides Iris through a very jerky driving lesson, revealing that Leo had taught him how to drive when Iris compares something that Felix tells her to her father. Iris tells Felix that she's glad he's there with Felix returning the sentiment. With a lot of ground left to cover, Iris starts driving the truck again, slightly less jerky, but still not perfect.

At night, spotting a light from the road, Felix and Iris stop at an abandoned house and search it. Hope and Huck hide as Felix and Iris search the house before the two reveal themselves. As Iris checks on Hope, Huck feigns surprise at the two getting the truck working again. Iris confronts Huck, revealing that they had checked the room that Huck had tried to hide from them, the one that she had told them not to go into because there were bodies. Iris demands to know why Huck had lied and Huck tries to claim that it must've been a crossed-wires thing and that she'd never said that there were bodies in the room. Hope backs Huck up, claiming that Huck had meant the basement instead of the storage room and Iris must've heard her wrong. Felix points out that Hope and Huck had still left without even saying goodbye, but Huck claims that they had thought that it would just be easier with Hope adding that Felix and Iris are there now and they have the truck fixed which is great. They are all there, together and safe which are all good things, but Felix doesn't seem to be fully convinced. Huck suggests that they get some sleep and hit the road in the morning, offering to get Felix and Iris' stuff from the truck so that Felix can get off of his leg. Felix refuses until Huck tells Felix that he needs to trust other people to take care of him for a change and Felix lets Huck go move the truck around the corner.

As Huck calls Hope to give her a hand, Felix grabs Huck's gun and demands that she drop the key and tell him what she's doing with Hope. Dropping the key and putting down the lantern, Huck tells Felix to grab Iris, take the truck and go. Felix refuses, but Huck tells him that it's how he lives and she doesn't want to hurt him. Hope tells Felix to listen and that Huck is CRM, she wants Hope, he can't save her and walking away is the only way that he'll live, shocking Iris. Huck states that she doesn't want to hurt Felix and she just wants to him be happy, she really did. Felix demands to know if it's true and Huck admits it before attacking Felix, throwing him down the stairs, shattering the lantern and setting the house on fire.

Huck races downstairs and kicks away Felix's S-Pole, ordering him not to make this any worse. As the two fight and the fire spread, Felix orders Hope and Iris to take the truck and flee, but they refuse to leave him behind. As the girls make their way out, looking for Huck's gun, Felix retrieves his S-Pole and he and Huck duel with them. Felix refuses to walk away and continues the fight, wounding Huck in the arm. As the fight continues and moves outside, Hope finds and retrieves Huck's gun. Struggling with Huck, Felix urges Hope to shoot her and that it's okay, Hope doesn't need Felix to protect her. With a few walkers approaching, Hope shoots one of them while Iris puts the other two down.

Huck finally overpowers Felix and, after a moment of hesitation, prepares to kill him with her S-Pole, apologizing. Hope removes the silencer from Huck's gun and fires it into the air, catching everyone's attention. Hope holds the gun to her own head and threatens to kill herself if Huck doesn't get away from Felix. Huck backs off and Hope orders Felix and Iris to take the truck and get back to the Campus Colony as fast as they can, knowing that nothing is going to happen to her because the CRM needs Hope to help Leo with his research because of who and what she is. Huck's mission was to get Hope to the research facility and "I decoded the message. I'm the asset. Turns out I'm smarter than I thought."

As they prepare to leave, Felix tells Hope that it's not too late to change her mind and she can just give him the gun and Hope, Iris and Felix can just leave. However, Hope knows that the CRM will just come after Felix and Iris looking for her and that this is the only way. Seeing that he can't change her mind, Felix hugs Hope goodbye. As they watch Hope and Iris say goodbye, Huck tells Felix that he and Iris will find safety five miles north. Felix angrily tells Huck that Hope is just a kid, but Huck states that Hope isn't anymore and that sometimes in this life you've gotta do bad in order to do good. Holding each other, Felix and Iris watch as Hope and Huck drive away in the truck.

The next morning, Felix and Iris walk through the woods together and Felix warns Iris that a storm's coming in and they're going to have to find some shelter and food. Iris promises that they'll find some, get the others back and kick the CRM's ass, but Felix wonders how. Iris tells Felix that they just will because they can and that this is how they give their lives meaning, they're the future. Hearing a noise in the woods, Felix and Iris ready their weapons, spotting a group of people nearby. Will emerges from the group and hugs Felix, crying. Will tells Felix and Iris that he'd thought that they were all dead, surprising them. Will realizes that they don't know and states that they have a lot to catch up on. As more people emerge from the woods, Felix, Iris and Will look up as a CRM helicopter flies overhead.

Season 2[]

"Konsekans"[]

As Iris attempts to decipher the CRM codebooks at night, she is joined by Felix who had heard her. Felix reassures Iris that he's sure that Hope will do ok and Iris tells Felix that it's Hope's birthday today. Felix suggests that maybe Leo is doing something for Hope and asks Iris to promise him to try to at least get a little sleep. The two wish each other luck with trying to get some sleep and Iris returns to trying to decipher the CRM codebooks.

Earlier, after encountering Will in the forest, Felix asks him what happened and he explains to Felix and Iris that the CRM controls all communications in and out. Each message is coded and scheduled to avoid detection and the CRM don't mess around.

In a flashback, Will tells Frank Newton that he's worried as he hasn't heard anything in weeks. Frank claims to understand Will's concern, but it could be anything causing the communications troubles.

In the present, Will elaborates that he had been waiting on a security update from Omaha that was weeks late and as time went on, the CRM kept stonewalling and Will had made the mistake of telling the CRM as much. Will and Romano had heard that the CRM were sending a team to a relay station a few hundred miles out to look into the communication break and Leo gave them his blessing to go with them, but they had downplayed it so that Leo wouldn't worry and told Leo that it was a scouting mission.

In a flashback, Will and Romano greet Frank near a truck that the CRM is loading up and Frank has bags put over their heads as per protocol. In a voiceover, Will notes that, looking back, there were signs that it was a setup such as the CRM not putting up a fight when they wanted to go. As the truck drives down the road, Will hears a cryptic comment by one of the soldiers about picking up a patrol shift the next day despite it being a three-day trip. The CRM team was also light on supplies for a three-day trip. Will signals Romano and the two men fight with the CRM soldiers, crashing the truck and killing the five other men. Chased by empties, Will and Romano flee into the woods, but Romano is shot from behind and killed by Frank who fires after Will who manages to escape.

In the present, Will states that he was on the run for a few days when he heard the helicopters which were dropping off shipping containers full of supplies from the Campus Colony and Omaha such as generators and computers some of which was covered in blood and all of which was loaded up into trucks and driven off. Will sadly tells Felix and Iris that he'd heard it being called a salvage mission and that everything had been messed up a giant herd that had run through. A few days later, Will was found by the people that he's with and he'd joined a hunting party to help out when he ran into them. Felix asks if Will is saying that empties just ran through Omaha and Will admits that he doesn't know how else to take it. Crying, Iris wonders how Omaha and the Campus Colony could just be gone and asks about Leo, but Will reassures her that there is no reason to believe that Leo is not alright, Hope as well. Will had kicked the hornet's nest and asked too many questions which must've made him and Romano targets. Iris wonders if the CRM knew the whole time and why they would lie, but Will only knows that the CRM wants him dead and that he will be if they find him. With empties approaching, Will leads Felix and Iris away.

Will leads Felix and Iris to his new community, explaining that the whole place is secure and the storm the night before had knocked some trees onto the wall. While some empties might've breached, they got it patched up pretty quick. Iris recognizes one of the sculptures that they're passing from a book that she read and Felix wonders what this place is. Will identifies it as the Perimeter, an abandoned farm town that was bought before the world ended and turned into an artist colony. They have since built it up and brought people in. Helping the injured Felix out of the wagon, Will introduces Felix and Iris to Indira, the head of the council that runs the Perimeter. Indira offers her condolences about the destruction of their home and, with Will vouching for Felix and Iris, promises them a home at the Perimeter until a more permanent solution can be found. Indira allows them to keep their knives, but asks that, for the safety and comfort of others, they surrender all other weapons while they're on the Perimeter's land. With Will's encouragement, Felix hands over his S-Pole and Iris hands over Shiloh. Indira informs them that they can stay in a spare bedroom in the house that Will's staying in and, while the council will want to ask them some questions, she will hold them off until the next day. She also promises to have someone look at Will's leg wound. Indira asks what they're living for now as living takes effort and a reason for everyone. If they're going to be living with the Perimeter now, Indira needs to know those reasons. Felix tells her that he lives for Will, Iris and a few others while Iris tells Indira that she lives for hope. Satisfied, Indira allows them to move on.

In the house, Felix removes his shirt and looks at himself in the mirror before kissing Will and breaking down sobbing in his arms. That night, Felix asks how safe they are there and Will tells him that it's pretty rare for the CRM to cross into Perimeter territory. Will explains that it's part of the deal that Indira had struck with the CRM: her people clear the area of the dead and ward strangers away from the research facility. In return, the CRM gives them supplies and neutrality. In effect, the Perimeter doesn't bother the CRM and vice versa. The Perimeter is risking everything by harboring them.

Iris enters the room, having finished deciphering the code books which contain supply depot locations, fuel inventories, stuff that they could use once they get Hope and Leo back. However, there is nothing in them that can help them get Hope and Leo back. Iris advocates scouting the facility while it's dark and seeing for themselves what they're up against. Will pulls out the layout of the facility that he was drawing up and explains that while he wants Hope and Leo safe from the CRM just as much as they do, there's nothing that they can do just yet. While Felix is impatient to act, Will warns him that the CRM has got guards, patrols and long-range security. Just getting within a mile of the research facility is dangerous and it won't tell them anything that Will doesn't already know. This is about the long game, not just getting those that they care about back. It's about not just how they get in, but how they get Hope and Leo out and where they go after and the safety of not just themselves, but the people of the Perimeter who are giving them shelter. One wrong move means the end for all of them.

After promising Felix to try to get some sleep, Iris flips through the CRM code books before suddenly calling Felix back and asking him why he thinks that the CRM would cover up what happened back home. Both acknowledge that it doesn't make sense and Iris tells Felix that she keeps thinking about everybody whose gone and how the only reason that they're not is because the Endlings left. They took a risk and maybe that's how they keep living, how they get Hope and Leo back: they do what they need to do no matter the risk. Felix tells Iris that it's great the council is letting them stay at the Perimeter for now, but they can only sit tight for so long. The rules are different now, "CRM changed the game. So, we change how we play." Felix heads back to bed, leaving Iris alone.

"Foothold"[]

Iris pulls her knife out of the dead soldier's chest and prepares to stab him in the head when she's stopped by a worried Felix who had picked up her trail. Iris tells Felix that the soldier was going to find her and they spot the flashlights of more approaching CRM soldiers. Realizing that they can't let the CRM find the soldier like this, Iris and Felix drag his body away and hide between two fallen trees. An empty approaches and Iris shoots it with her crossbow, but the soldiers hear the noise of it falling to the ground. With two more empties approaching, Felix tells Iris that they have to put them down silently and not let their bodies hit the ground. Felix puts one down with his knife and restrains the other for Iris to shoot with her crossbow after Felix drops his knife. Iris and Felix hide as the CRM soldiers continue to patrol the woods.

The next morning, Iris, Felix and Will look out over a small herd clustered in and around a river and Iris makes a suggestion about which one of the empties to pick, but Felix and Will reject her suggestion. Spotting an empty approaching, Iris goes to put it down, but she freezes when the growls remind her of her nightmare about the empty with the CRM helmet on underneath it and looking at the soldier that she had killed. Iris briefly hallucinates the empty pulling off its face to reveal a CRM helmet before Felix puts it down with his spear. With none of the empties having proven to be sufficient, Will instead suggests checking out a gully a mile north where empties sometimes build up. Although Felix protests, Will angrily asks if he has any other ideas and Felix is forced to concede that he doesn't.

Iris acknowledges that Will had told them that coming out here was dangerous and she'd be mad too if she was him. Both Felix and Will wonder why she did it then and Iris reveals that she believes that the CRM was responsible for the destruction of Omaha and the Campus Colony, not empties. Iris points out that they had killed Romano, tried to kill Will and were willing to kill the Endlings so why not everyone back home or in Omaha. Felix is surprised that Iris thinks that the CRM did it, but Iris wonders why else they would cover it up. Felix points out that they're talking about a hundred thousand people here and Iris is suggesting that they had just wanted them all dead. but why would they do it as they weren't a threat. Iris thinks that maybe they had something that the CRM wanted like Hope and they saw how far the CRM went to take her. Will admits that the thought has crossed his mind too. An empty approaches that Will declares is perfect for their needs. The three dress the empty up in Will's jacket and gag it with a belt, making it appear as if the empty is an undead Will from a distance. Satisfied, Felix orders the other two to grab the soldier while he takes the empty and meet him at the drop off. Putting down two approaching empties, Iris and Will head off in one direction while Felix leaves in the other.

At the Perimeter, Brody argues to the Council that Iris, Felix and Will can't be trusted, pointing out that Iris had killed a CRM soldier with one of their weapons and Will is wanted by the CRM. As such, the three have put them all at risk. Felix tells the Council that they have a plan that will fix that and Iris asks for a chance to make this right. Brody states that it's too dangerous for them to stay, especially as Iris, Felix and Will haven't been forthcoming. Brody produces Iris' CRM code books as proof, angering her as he had gone through her stuff. Brody reveals that it contains the locations of CRM supply drops and fuel depots, and he worries about what will happen if the CRM finds out about it. Felix insists that they won't with Will adding that, if their plan works, it won't just take some heat off of him but protect everyone at the Perimeter too. Will appeals to Indira to let them stay, but the argument is interrupted by the approach of CRM vehicles.

Indira orders Iris, Felix and Will to hide, although Will considers surrendering himself as the CRM only wants him. With Iris unable to retrieve her code books in time, Brody quickly covers them up. Brody warns Indira that if they don't hand them over, the Perimeter could lose everything, but Indira refuses to consider it as that isn't what their community is about. Elizabeth Kublek enters with two CRM soldiers and apologizes for her unannounced visit and explains to Indira and Brody that she's there because the CRM is looking into something. Elizabeth's attention is drawn to one of Indira's paintings on the wall near where Iris' code books are hidden, and Brody notices the wind blow the papers covering them up off. As Elizabeth reminisces about the painting that Indira had done of her daughter, Indira distracts her by asking about Jennifer whom Indira's people haven't seen in two years. Elizabeth tells Indira that Jennifer has just returned home from assignment and that it's a lot of responsibility to be entrusted with the well-being and survival of so many people.

Elizabeth explains that she has come because of a security issue: one of her soldiers had vanished not far from there the night before, worrying the hiding group. Elizabeth suggests that its someone at the research facility who is causing them trouble, not believing that anyone at the Perimeter would risk their agreement, but Indira claims that the Perimeter hasn't seen any new faces around. Citing the Perimeter's damaged wall, Elizabeth asks to be allowed to have her soldiers search the community to make sure that no one slipped in unnoticed, but Indira refuses, stating that the wall has been fixed and the Perimeter's lookouts do a fine job. Stating that you can never be too careful, Elizabeth has her soldiers search anyways. While admiring some of the paintings hanging up, Elizabeth unknowingly stands just a few feet from where Iris, Felix and Will are hiding. After a tense moment, Elizabeth receives a radio call that her men have eyes on their missing soldier in Watkins Glen and on Indira's silent nod, Brody takes the opportunity to hide the code books once again. Satisfied, Elizabeth leaves, apologizing to Indira for the intrusion and expressing a hope that they can talk more next time, much to everyone's relief.

Walking through the area where they had picked up the empty they had disguised as Will, Felix notes that Iris hasn't said much about what happened and asks if she's doing alright. Iris claims to be pointing out that their plan worked out perfectly: it took some of the heat off of Will and Indira's letting them stay. Iris reveals that while they were hiding from the CRM, she wasn't worried about getting caught or the Perimeter getting torn apart because of them, she was scared that she wouldn't get the chance to hit them back. Felix asks if Iris is sure that she's ready for this and Iris tells him that "killing that soldier... I thought I was numb. But I wasn't. I was angry. This is war. Even if they don't know it yet." Felix agrees with Iris and tells her that until they can figure out a way to the CRM back, they can at least hit something. Deploying their S-Pole and Shiloh respectively, Felix and Iris begin to eliminate the herd gathered in that spot.

"Exit Wounds"[]

While listening to Dr. Terry Ellis' lecture on decay, Hope remembers Felix holding back the herd at the Mississippi River with the help of Elton's Fisherman. Hope also remembers hugging Felix before they parted ways. Later, after watching Mason knock over a Jenga tower during a game, Hope remembers the Endlings watching the rack of tires fall at the Blaze of Gory and Felix struggling to help launch at the boat at the river.

"Family Is a Four Letter Word"[]

Patrolling in the woods of the Perimeter, Felix puts down an empty with his S-Pole. Before he can take out a second one, Will shoots it with his bow, telling Felix that he'd hesitated before retrieving his arrow. Felix notes that it's the first two that they've seen and Will suggests that a few more might've made it in through the breach in the wall and promises to make sure that Indira knows about that.

As they prepare to enter town, Felix stops Will, spotting Huck talking with Indira in the center of town while Hope and Iris hug. Felix stops Will from entering town, reminding his boyfriend that they can't let Huck see him when the CRM believes Will to be dead. Felix points out that there could be CRM soldiers around and they have to be smart about this and he orders a visibly reluctant Will to stay behind as Felix goes in alone.

Iris can't believe that Hope is there and asks if their father is with her, but Hope reveals that it's just them and Huck had to sneak her out. Hope reassures her sister that it's fine as Felix joins them and Hope hugs him as well. Huck comments that it's just like old times while Felix glares at her over Hope's shoulder.

Indira hopes that Huck isn't bringing them trouble, but Huck reassures Indira that she's not and that her mother doesn't know that she's there and she won't. As a gesture of good faith, Huck hands over her rifle to one of the Perimeter's guards as Felix hands in his S-Pole as well. Huck explains that she just wants to talk to Iris and Felix alone and Indira reminds Huck that the Perimeter hasn't seen bloodshed since its founding, and she wants to keep it that way. Both Felix and Huck agree, and Indira leaves them alone.

Once Indira is gone, Felix draws his knife, addressing Huck by her real name of Jennifer and demanding to know what she wants. Stepping between the two, Hope explains that what they want is for Felix and Iris to come back with them which Felix and Iris are visibly unhappy with. Felix demands to know why they would ever come with Huck, but she tells them that they wouldn't. Instead, she intends to take them most of the way and have Iris and Felix act like they found the research facility on their own.

Iris wonders what this is about, and Hope tells her that it's about being together, keeping Felix and Iris safe and keeping their father safe. Iris reminds Hope that she had said that Leo was safe, and Hope promises that he is, but Leo is worried, and Hope is worried that he's going to stir shit up if they don't bring them back soon. Leo could get hurt or worse and Huck states that the CRM is currently looking for them back at the retirement home. However, Felix reveals that Huck's mother was just there looking for them with soldiers and wonders if Huck is here now because she's using Hope to lure them out.

Huck insists that all they have to do is play dumb that she is CRM and about the code books and the fuel caches and they'll be fine. Her mother will take them in, and they'll be safe. Felix is dubious and Huck calls it just one more lie. Iris demands to know if Omaha was just one more lie too, surprising Hope that they know about it already. Felix asks if it's true that Omaha is gone, and Huck confirms it along with the fact that the Campus Colony has been destroyed as well. Huck states that the CRM couldn't mobilize fast enough to save either one, but Iris suggests that they were the ones who made it happen instead. Huck is surprised, telling Iris that it was a giant herd of empties, but Iris outright accuses the CRM of killing everyone and using the empties as a coverup. Huck is confused as to why the CRM would kill over a hundred thousand people when they are all about rebuilding civilization and bringing the world back and Felix demands that she tell them why the CRM would do such a thing. Huck calls Iris' claims crazy while Hope wonders if Iris knows something. Iris admits that she can't prove it, but she refuses to go anywhere with Huck.

Iris begins to walk away, refusing to say anything else in front of Huck. Hope insists that this isn't about Huck but rather their father, demanding to know if Iris doesn't want to see him. While Iris does, she knows that they would be idiots to go into the research facility without a way out, something that Felix agrees with. Huck asks them about Silas, drawing everyone's attention. Huck reveals that Silas is alive and at a culling and maintenance post not far from the Perimeter. Huck has made sure that Silas is being taken care of and promises Iris that if she and Felix come with them, they can see Silas too. Hope admits that this is the first that she's hearing about this, and Felix accuses Huck of lying to them. Huck insists that it's the truth and that she hadn't said anything before as she didn't want to complicate things more than they already are. Huck implores Iris to come with her and Hope and see for herself, but Iris tells her sister that she wants to talk to her alone and Hope and Iris walk away. Left alone with each other, Huck tells Felix that she's taking a walk, but he stops her, refusing to let Huck go alone. Huck walks off, followed by Felix.

Walking through the woods, Huck stops and gets emotional as she prepares to tell Felix something that Leo and Hope don't even know, catching Felix's attention. Huck explains that her mother had sent a team out on a recon mission, and it went bad resulting in the death of Will. Huck knows what Will meant to Felix and she begins to offer her condolences before Felix cuts her off. Their discussion is interrupted by the approach of an empty, confusing Huck as to how it got through the wall protecting the Perimeter. As Huck draws her knife and goes to deal with it, Felix knocks her to the ground from behind, knocks the empty to the ground and drags it to hang, snarling, over Huck's face, preparing to use the empty to kill her. Huck begs for Felix not to do it, pointing out that the CRM will come looking for her. However, Felix intends for Huck to be found bitten and turned miles away, "another dead asshole roaming the Earth." As the empty comes close to biting Huck, Felix finally relents and throws it off of her. Curb stomping the empty's head, Felix declares that he's not going to kill Huck tonight, he just wanted to know what it's going to feel like when he does. Telling Huck to enjoy her walk, Felix leaves.

Back in the Perimeter, Felix notices Percy leaving the armory and heading into the woods with Huck's rifle. Felix enters Will's house where his impatient boyfriend is looking through the window for him and demands to know where he went. Felix tells Will that although this is going to sound crazy, he thinks that he saw Percy coming from the armory. Will draws Felix's attention to bloody bandages and medical supplies open on the table and Felix realizes that it's Percy's. Checking out the window, Felix discovers that the armory is open and he tells Will that he thinks that Percy is alive and is going after Huck. If Percy is, he is going to get them all killed.

In the woods, Will spots the vengeful Percy preparing to shoot Huck as she stops to admire one of the Perimeter's sculptures. Unable to bring himself to shoot Percy with his bow, Will instead runs between Huck and Percy, revealing his survival to her and alarming Felix who witnesses this and runs over as well. Huck is shocked to see Will and he explains that they had to make the CRM think that he was dead in order to throw them off of his trail. Will reveals to Huck that the CRM were trying to kill him and that they'd killed Romano and want him dead. With Felix and Will blocking his shot, Percy leaves.

Will explains that he was onto the truth about Omaha which is why the CRM had tried to kill him, to cover up what they did. Huck believes that the CRM was just trying to keep Omaha quiet until they got Hope to the research facility and so that Leo wouldn't think that his family was there, but Will isn't buying it. With Huck refusing to believe that the CRM could be behind the destruction of Omaha and the Campus Colony, Felix wonders if she's just blind or really that stupid. Huck insists that if the CRM had destroyed Omaha, it would've gone through her mother who would've told her. Felix tells Huck to open her eyes to the fact that her mother is lying to her. Huck has spent her whole life lying to everyone around her so what makes her think that her mother is any different. Unable to come up with a good answer, Huck states that the sun will be up soon, and she needs to find Hope and go. Felix refuses, worried that Huck will tell the CRM about Will's survival, but Huck promises that she won't. While they have every reason to hate her, like it or not, Huck is the closest thing to a friend that they have in the CRM.

Hope says goodbye to Felix and Will, asking Will to look after Iris and Felix. Now aware of the CRM's attempted murder of Will and believing that the CRM had destroyed Omaha and the Campus Colony, Hope confronts Iris about not telling her the truth about it which changes everything. Iris insists that she had wanted to tell Hope and that maybe she should've, unsure of why she didn't. Hope asks if there's anything else that she should know and, with a glance at Huck, Iris shakes her head. Hugging Hope, Iris promises that they will get Hope and Leo out and asks Hope to tell Leo that they're okay and not to worry. Hope wishes that she could and leaves with Huck.

Later, Will sits on his bed waiting for Felix. Will asks if Felix had talked to Percy, telling Felix that he had read Percy the riot act and Percy had only been doing what Felix had wanted to. Felix points out that he didn't, and he is glad that Percy is okay, but they can't stay at the Perimeter which isn't safe for them anymore, Will specifically. However, Will knows that the smart play for Huck is to keep his survival quiet. If Huck tells the CRM, she exposes herself and its mutually assured destruction. Becoming emotional, Felix refuses to lose Will again and Will assures his boyfriend that they will find a way out of this. However, Felix isn't sure how they're going to do that, they don't even know how to save Hope and Leo and now they have Silas to worry about as well. Will is surprised by the mention of Silas and asks if Silas is with them too, but Felix tells him that Huck had mentioned something about a culling outpost. Will becomes intrigued by this and reveals that if Silas is where Huck says that he is, Will might know a way to get everybody out.

After witnessing her mother's address to the Civic Republic and Portland and her evasiveness over the claimed survivors, Felix's words challenging Elizabeth's honesty ring through Huck's head and she begins having doubts about whether or not the CRM was responsible for the destruction of Omaha and the Campus Colony as Iris, Felix and Will had insisted.

"Quatervois"[]

Iris, Percy, Felix, Will and Elton make their way through the woods towards the culling facility where Silas works, putting down several empties as they go. Elton, now armed with an axe, asks if Iris really thinks that their plan is going to work and she says that she does, but Elton doesn't respond when Iris asks about his thoughts on the success of their plan. Elton asks how Hope is and Iris says that she's good and that Elton can ask her himself this time tomorrow.

The group spots a large herd moving in the same direction that they are, and Will confirms that the facility should be just over the upcoming ridge. Loud music begins drawing the herd towards the facility and Felix warns the others that it won't be long before the music fills the whole area with empties. Seeing that the area is filled with empties, Will comments that they are going to need an exit strategy. Spotting a creek bed filled with the undead, Felix decides to lure as many as he can into it and keep things clear while everyone else keeps moving. Will argues with Felix about Felix remaining behind alone and Iris tells them both to stay while she, Felix and Elton go on ahead. Percy adds that they'll go in, make contact and get out. If the things get dicey, they'll split, and Elton promises that they'll be "smart and safe. Just like you taught us." With Will agreeing with them, Felix gives in and provides final instructions to stay low and watch for spotters which Iris finishes for him. Left alone, Felix and Will begin luring empties in and knocking them into the creek bed.

At the Perimeter, Indira is surprised to learn that their plan is to turn themselves in. Iris clarifies that it's just her and Felix and Dev asks about Elton and Percy. Elton explains that they're not the CRM's priority and it's better if they stay on the outside, although Percy is less than happy about it. Felix states that they are going to approach from the south so that it doesn't look like they crossed through the Perimeter's territory. Indira worries that a willing surrender may draw suspicion, but Asha suggests instead that they turn Iris and Felix in and make it look like the Perimeter caught them. Indira agrees that it would look less suspicious, and it would show the CRM that the Perimeter is honoring their agreement.

Iris is surprised that Indira would be willing to do that, but Indira is more worried about her friends: escaping will be dangerous and from what she saw, Hope wasn't too eager to leave. However, Will tells her that that was before Hope knew the truth and Iris adds that Hope is her sister and she'll leave. Will adds that once they're out, they'll pick up him, Elton and Percy a mile west of the Perimeter. The Endlings will lay low - possibly at the underground mall near Cornell that Dev had mentioned to them - and then once things blow over, they'll head west. Indira warns them that things don't just blow over with the CRM and they'll be all alone if they need help on the inside. Percy reveals that he and Will have found a way to get a message out if the plan changes through a dead drop. The Perimeter's supplies come in late in the day on the first Wednesday of every month which is the next day.

Walking outside together, Elton suggests to Asha that if this plan works, the Perimeter will finally have the Endlings out of their hair. However, Asha tells him that it hasn't been so bad having them in their hair and he'll get to see Hope. Indira checks with Will that he's sure that this is what he wants to do knowing what he could lose, but Felix tells her that it's the CRM's turn to lose and Felix intends to make damn sure that they do.

That night, as Iris, Felix, Indira and Dev prepare for departure in a wagon, kissing Will goodbye, Felix asks for the name of the soldier that had killed Romano and tried to kill Will, but Will simply reminds him to be smart and safe. Will orders Felix to get in and out, having already thought that he'd lost his boyfriend once and not willing to do it again. Felix promises that Will won't and that this isn't goodbye. Indira approaches to announce that it's time to go. Dev provides Iris and Felix with rope and Indira tells them that she and Dev will tie them up and blindfold them when they're close.

Shortly thereafter, Percy, now wearing Elton's jacket in order to disguise himself as his friend, rides a horse after the others. Iris and Felix are shocked by Percy's appearance and Indira warns him that they aren't far from the checkpoint, a patrol could arrive at any minute and Percy should go. Percy argues that with his skills as a grifter, he could be of great help to Iris and Felix on the inside. Felix warns Percy that if the CRM sees him, it could be over while Iris wonders if this about helping them or killing Huck. Percy admits that he wants Huck dead, but not like before, not by putting anyone else at risk. Felix is incredulous about Percy's plan to help by posing as Elton, but Percy tells Iris if she says yes, "I'll do whatever I gotta do. I'll kill a hundred of those assholes, I don't care. Whatever I gotta do to get you out safe." Iris wonders what happens to Percy then and he states that he'll finish what he set out to do, try to make it out and find Iris again. Felix apologizes to Percy, telling him that they can't risk this, but it's too late: the CRM are coming. Dev and Indira quickly move to bind and blindfold the group as CRM vehicles approach.

Elizabeth enters the holding area and greets Iris, Felix and Percy with Percy giving her a sarcastic salute when Elizabeth misidentifies him as Elton Ortiz. Iris asks if Elizabeth is the one keeping them there and she claims that she thought that it wouldn't be polite not to stop by. Elizabeth notes that they've made quite the journey of over a thousand miles of perilous miles only to have the people of the Perimeter apprehend them. Elizabeth suggests that that must've been quite concerning and Felix claims that the Perimeter residents had blades at their necks, and they thought that they were screwed until they showed their captives the map that Elizabeth gave to Hope and Iris. They told their captors that they were looking for the CRM research facility and now here they are. Iris and Percy tell Elizabeth that's it's been over ten hours and ask for something to eat. Elizabeth asks about Felix's injured ankle, noting that it must be quite odd for Felix to be on the other end of the intake questioning. Felix shows Elizabeth his ankle which she points out is freshly bandaged and asks if Indira's people helped him with it. However, Felix claims not to know who Indira is and that right before they found "Elton," they stopped at a retirement home miles back that was fully stocked, and they got lucky. Elizabeth begins to leave, and Iris asks if they are good as she really wants to see her father. However, Elizabeth tells her that while she's sure that Iris would, it's a process.

Shortly thereafter, Leo and Hope arrive, and Leo shares a tearful reunion with Iris and Felix. Hope is surprised by Iris' presence there and even more by Percy being dressed up as Elton. Hugging her sister, Iris promises to explain everything to her.

In Leo's apartment, having been informed the escape plan, Leo is surprised that they want to leave now while Hope asks why 2 p.m. that day. Felix explains that the guard shift happens at 2 and Will has got this all mapped out and it's the only way to get out of the research facility without anyone noticing. Percy adds that if they do, he's going to hang back and give them some cover while Iris states that it's also when Silas is meeting them at the Detritus Service Terminal. Hope is surprised that the others were with Silas and Iris confirms that Silas is coming with them. Leo worries that it's a long, dangerous walk to Portland, but Iris tells her father that they got to the research facility, and they'll get to Portland too. Portland needs to know what their Alliance partner did. Leo is afraid that if the CRM catches them, they could kill everyone, but Felix suggests that, if they get caught, they leverage the fact that the CRM want Leo and Hope working towards the future for their safety. With about 40 minutes left until the deadline, Iris states that this is their best and only chance to be a family again on their terms. Leo checks with Hope who reminds Leo that he said that it was about making their own choices and, right now, this is the only choice that they've got. After a moment, Leo decides that he needs to say goodbye to Lyla, suggesting that maybe she can come with them. Leo calls Lyla the only person outside of this room that they can trust, and he needs to talk to her.

As the time approaches, Hope, Iris, Felix and Percy sit anxiously in Leo's apartment with their bags packed.

"Who Are You?"[]

At 1:57 p.m., Leo tells Hope, Iris, Felix and Percy that, from what he can tell, the transmissions describe field tests conducted in the aftermath of some sort of large-scale chemical event. Leo guesses that the V symbol on the papers refers to a specific project at the research facility. Hope and Iris realize that the CRM used some kind of chemical weapon to kill everyone in Omaha and the Campus Colony and then used the empties to cover it up. Felix warns everyone that they now have exactly two minutes to meet Silas at the back terminal while Percy wonders if the documents are legitimate and not some kind of new con that Huck is planning. However, Leo insists that whatever this is, the specificity involved is real. Hope suggests that the scientists in on it didn't know or working against their will, but Iris' more cynical opinion is that they might've known exactly what they were doing and just didn't care.

Felix warns the others that they must make an immediate decision on whether to stay or go and Hope votes to stay, stating that these are people's lives they're talking about. Portland needs to know and they have to figure out what's going on and what all of this means. Felix agrees and tells the others that they need to leave word for Will and Elton and asks what they're going to do about Silas. Iris explains that she told Silas to leave if they didn't show up and to go back to the culling facility until they figure things out and that's hopefully what he did. Percy's surprised that they're scrapping the escape plan, but Iris admits that Hope's right and they need answers. Percy wonders what then and Iris firmly tells the others that they make sure that the CRM doesn't get away with it. Leo agrees and says that they're going to get some answers.

In Leo's lab, Iris asks Huck why the CRM would wipe out two whole communities, if it was for the research or if the research was just part of it. Huck states that that's what she's trying to find out, but Felix points out that Huck was a mole in both places and if anyone would know, it's her. However, Huck reminds Felix that she'd told the Endlings that she was just a part of a standard observe and report mission, at least until it became about Hope. Elizabeth Kublek was the one who oversaw the Civic Republic's dealings with Omaha and the Campus Colony while Huck was nobody. Percy is doubtful, asking Huck if shooting him and killing his uncle was her call while killing everybody else was her mother's. Huck admits that while only Major General Beale could've authorized something this big, her mother would've seen the order.

Leo asks if Huck has any idea why the CRM would do such a thing and she tells the others that, even before the CR formed the Alliance of the Three, they kept their location hidden in order to make sure that everything within its borders was kept at a statistical balance such as resources, food and population and something like an influx of people or a potential for conflict would jeopardize what they've built. Huck guesses that "someway, somehow, Beale must've thought that Omaha and the Campus Colony was a threat to that balance." Iris presses Huck to tell them where the Hidden City is as proof of her honesty, but she refuses, stating that she came to Leo for answers, not the other way around. Huck tries to take the coded transmissions and leave, but Leo snatches them back, telling Huck that he needs more time and that if she wants answers, they stay with him. Huck agrees and starts to leave, but turns back, telling the Endlings that having Indira turn them in was smart. However, she warns them that whatever great escape they think they've figured out, they haven't, and she leaves. Once Huck is gone, Felix tells the others that they need to get their note to Will and Elton and their window is closing soon to deliver it. Iris goes to write it and Felix tells her to keep it short and tell them that they are delayed and safe.

When Elton decodes Iris' message, it reveals that they not only have been delayed, but that they intend to burn the research facility to the ground. Indira realizes that Iris and the others intend to start a war with the CRM.

After composing himself in the bathroom of his apartment, Leo tells the others that he needs to know just how much Lyla knows. Leo explains that Lyla being there for dinner means that she won't be in her lab. Leo tells Felix that he needs Felix to do something for him, but not just Felix.

Felix approaches Huck to break into Lyla's lab which she refuses to help him with as it's way too dangerous and they're dead if they get caught. Felix reminds Huck that she wanted answers and she had told Leo that she wanted to stop what the CRM is doing. Huck states that she had wanted Leo to give her his take on the research, but Felix reminds her that he did, and Huck doesn't just get to drop this in someone else's lap and walk away. Like it or not, Huck is in it now and Felix asks for their best way in.

In a security room, Huck prints Felix a key card that officially puts him in the system as Leo's security detail. It won't give Felix much access, but it does give him an alibi if someone asks why he's there. Huck provides Felix with an S-Pole that he recognizes as hers and Huck explains that Felix's S-Pole is still in lockup. Sitting at a computer, Huck begins trying to either transfer Lyla's access onto her own key card or find a way to copy Lyla's card. Felix had thought that this was Huck's area of expertise, but Huck points out that she's a soldier, not a hacker. Felix calls Huck a mole, not a soldier and asks if all of the lying and killing was worth it to her for the greater good. Huck asks if Felix thinks that she wanted to do those things and finds that she has insufficient clearance to get the access that they need. Felix asks about just breaking in instead, but Huck tells him that all of the labs are grouped together with researchers working at all hours. Looking at a board of keys, Felix suggests that what they're looking for might not be in Lyla's lab at all: if Lyla is hiding something, she'd be smart to keep it somewhere else that's private. Huck checks the key card access logs and finds that Lyla makes daily trips to Sublevel 7 Sector C-24 which, aside from the biocontainment unit, has nothing down there. Exchanging a look, Felix and Huck realize that this is what they're looking for.

As the two make their way down to Sublevel 7, Felix notes that it seemed like Huck had done that with the access logs before. Huck comments that if she had, they probably never would've met. Huck reveals that her assignment in Omaha wasn't just some call of duty, it was about getting back in the CRM's good graces. Felix wonders what she did, and Huck reveals that she had tried to cover for her husband's screwup, surprising Felix with the fact that she was married, but Huck corrects him that she still is. Huck tells Felix that Dennis was a Master Sergeant on the fast track, a golden boy who had some demons like everyone. Huck and Dennis were leading their team through some training maneuvers with empties when things went south. Dennis made a tough call and people got hurt, but Huck's opinion is that Dennis actually saved lives with his call. However, Dennis had been drinking and there was going to be an investigation so Dennis promised that he would clean up his act if Huck just took some of the heat off of him. Huck went on record saying that the call was hers and not Dennis', the camera that they used to document the exercise was messed up so the CRM brought in the tape to salvage it as evidence. Late one night, Huck slipped into the tech room and made sure that they couldn't, but she forgot to wipe the key card logs and got caught. Felix asks why Huck did it and she tells him that she loved Dennis and maybe she still does.

Reaching the door to Sector C-24, Huck tries and fails to open the door with her key card. Huck decides that she has to cut the power to this part of the security grid. While there's a backup generator, it will take at least two minutes to kick in which means they only have that long to do everything that they need to. However, the transformer's clear across the compound and is too far away to get there and back in under two minutes. Felix decides that they'll split up with Felix going to cut the power and Huck remaining behind to see what she can find. Huck provides Felix with an earpiece to keep in touch, but cutting the power is her job. Felix thinks that it's so that Felix is the one in danger if this all goes wrong, but Huck logically points out that she knows where everything is and how to cover her tracks while Felix would be flying blind. When Felix continues to hesitate, Huck reminds Felix that he's the one who came to her, so they have to play by her rules. Felix asks what she would do if he doesn't, walk away and keep burying her head in the sand. Felix wonders if Huck would be alright with that after everything that she's done, but Huck points out that what the CRM did wasn't her and that nothing they do tonight will bring those people back, so she is willing to walk away. Huck asks if Felix is and tells him to wait for her go "or don't," before leaving while Felix stays behind.

Huck contacts Felix and tells him that she's in place. Preparing his stopwatch, Felix tells Huck that he's ready when she is. Jamming the pipe into the breaker box and yanking, Huck blows the generator, knocking out power to the research facility and setting the generator on fire. Huck orders Felix to go now as she watches the lights go out and as the light over the door turns green, Felix activates his stopwatch and enters the unlocked door. Felix finds himself in a cold storage area which he explores, discovering several frozen empties on slabs. Examining them, Felix finds brown patches on the empties indicating experiments having been conducted upon them. Moving on, Felix finds fridges full of vials of a green liquid and, examining one of the vials, finds it marked as being for Project V. Behind a rolling door, Felix finds a room filled with giant gas canisters marked for Biohazard and as being for Project V. Felix realizes that whatever the CRM used to take out Omaha, they have a lot more of it. However, Huck fails to respond to his radio calls.

At a minute and a half, Felix returns to the door, only to have the power return and lock him in. Huck desperately tries to call Huck, but he is unable to reach her. Slowly freezing, Felix spends the next half an hour trying to get out without success. Felix tries to raise Huck on the radio again, telling Huck that she can't just walk away from him or what the CRM did, but he doesn't get a response, frustrating Felix.

Later, shuddering from the cold, Felix begs Huck to respond to him and tell him that she's with him just before Huck finally opens the door for him. Felix demands to know what had happened to Huck, having thought that she had abandoned him. Huck guesses that the walls must've interfered with the comms and the backup generator kicked in early. Huck explains that she had to reprogram her key card so that she could open the door manually for him. Huck needs to go wipe the access logs so that she doesn't have a repeat of two years ago on her hands, only a hell of a lot worse this time. Felix shows Huck the vial that he stole, telling her that whatever it is, there's a hell of a lot more of it and Felix will get it to Leo. Huck asks Felix to keep her posted before telling him that she doesn't know how this is going to end or what's going to happen to her, "but for whatever it's worth, I am with you. At least until I can't be." Felix nods in agreement, finally accepting that Huck really is on the Endlings' side as she heads off.

"Blood and Lies"[]

After seeing Leo being taken away by Lieutenant Frank Newton and two CRM soldiers, Felix demands to know where Frank is taking him, but Frank tells Felix that he can go back to his apartment. Leo tells Felix that it's ok, but Felix refuses to stop, citing that he's Leo's security detail and refusing to let the CRM take Leo anywhere without him. Felix tries to shove past Frank, but Frank and another soldier restrain him and take Felix with them. Frank wonders out loud "what is it with Dr. Bennett and his security detail, huh? They just keep asking for it." Approaching Iris and Percy, Felix warns Iris that the CRM has her dad and orders her to tell Hope as he's led away.

During Leo's interrogation, Jadis has Felix detained in an adjacent room despite Leo's initial demands to have Felix with him. After reaching a deal with Leo following Lyla revealing the truth about Project Votus to Leo, Jadis has Frank release Felix.

Sitting in Leo's living room, Hope asks what they do now. Leo isn't sure and tells Hope, Iris and Felix that Elizabeth Kublek wasn't there and Jadis told him to take a couple of days and report back to work on Monday. Leo doesn't know if he's going to have armed guards at his elbows or not and Felix suggests that they get out of the research facility before then and have Huck get word to Silas. Iris reveals that Percy went to talk to Huck that morning and she hasn't seen him since.

Answering a knock on the door, Iris is relieved to find Percy and becomes concerned at what he did after seeing how distressed Percy is. Percy explains to the Endlings that there's not gonna be an Alliance of the Three anymore and Felix asks what he means. Percy suggests that maybe the CRM never intended to have allies and maybe they had just wanted to find out who their competition was. Iris asks what he's telling them, and Percy reveals that it's just going to be the Civic Republic, the CRM is going to wipe out Portland using the chlorine gas and the empties to cover it up just like they did in Omaha and the Campus Colony. The CRM intends to kill 87,000 people and they have no way to warn them as a wire would get intercepted and it would take months to reach Portland on foot. Portland won't see it coming and they won't know what hit them. Percy tells the others that it will be soon, and Hope asks how soon, but Percy doesn't know as Jadis had only said that it would be soon. Felix points out that they know where the gas is, and Iris realizes that he wants to destroy the gas. Hope decides that they must destroy the research facility as well. This isn't just about saving Portland and escaping, they can't let the CRM keep the research facility. Hope wants to get the scientists and their research out and keep it going. Iris wonders how they're going to do that.

"Returning Point"[]

In Huck's apartment, Huck rolls up a blueprint and tells Leo and Felix that, if things roll the Endlings' way, it'll be just enough to pull this off and get everyone out and someplace where the CRM can't get them. Felix wonders what happens to Huck if this works and she suggests that if she can get back to the Civic Republic, Huck can let the civilian government know what the military's done. Leo admits that Huck almost had him fooled the day before and Huck starts to bring up what Jadis had her do to Lyla. However, Leo reassures Huck that Lyla did it to herself and that if Lyla had to die at someone else's hands, Leo wishes that they had been his, but Huck tells Leo that he doesn't want that on his conscience.

Felix wonders how this plays out without the CRM killing Huck and Huck reveals that she is pretty sure that the empty that Jadis had her use to kill Lyla was a soldier that was tied to Omaha who had been trying to talk. If there's one, there's more, a resistance that can help Huck get to the people that she needs to talk to. It won't be easy, but Huck has to try "and who knows. Maybe in the end, it'll be me and Dennis, trying together." Felix silently acknowledges this, and Huck provides the two men with radios and guns, ordering them to wait for her go. Leo asks if they're all set up for them on the outside and Huck explains that Dennis and Silas are on their way to relay the plan to Indira and her people. Once they radio that they're on board, the Endlings will make their move.

As an evacuation is announced, Leo leads the other scientists, their security details to the biocontainment unit where Iris, Felix and Percy are waiting for him. Felix informs Leo that the others are already inside, but Iris admits that Hope isn't, but she promises that Hope will be there. Felix and Percy join the others in entering the biocontainment unit as Leo and Iris anxiously wait outside for Hope. As the facility enters full lockdown, Hope arrives at the biocontainment unit with Mason Beale just in time before the door seals. Looking around at the gathered people in alarm and confusion, Mason asks Hope what's going on. Hope apologizes, wishing that there was another way, but the Endlings' plan doesn't work without Mason. Felix and Percy grab Mason and drag him away, calling out for Hope and Percy welcomes Mason to the biocontainment unit.

Leo and Felix move around some shelves to make room and Felix quips that it's a good thing that he told Will that he wouldn't do anything reckless. Leo believes that they didn't have a choice, but Felix suggests that it's all a choice: Leo chose to give Felix a life and Felix is choosing to make it count. Leo reassures Felix that he already has and promises that they're going to get Felix back to Will and then Felix is finally going to start living for himself. Stating that that goes for Leo too, Felix and Leo start smashing the floor apart with sledgehammers.

Hope and Iris go over a blueprint with Felix and Leo, mapping out the direction that they will be traveling in. Leo warns the others that they only have 12 minutes until the CRM gets in and Leo heads off to get everybody ready while Felix goes to set the C4. Nearby, Percy unties Mason who angrily refuses to go anywhere until they tell him where they're taking him. Hope tries to intervene as Percy roughly drags Mason away, but Iris stops her. Hope protests that Mason didn't do anything, but Iris tells her that neither did and they and that there is too much at stake and they need to get it done.

When the CRM soldiers enter the biocontainment unit, four of them are killed by C4 that Felix had set. They discover that everyone has escaped into the old mining tunnels beneath the facility, having counted on the CRM initiating lockdown protocols. The Endlings had known that sealing the containment door would buy them time to escape into the old mining tunnels and used the explosives to stop the CRM from following them in. They also stole all of the research to take it with them and wiped it from the facility's central server. Jadis realizes that their actions are not just an escape plan, but a rebellion. Jadis orders Corporal Diane Pierce to shoot to kill if she sees the Bennetts or any of the scientists.

"Death and the Dead"[]

Having escaped into Lyla Belshaw's secret lab, Leo passes around controllers for the viral recorders strapped to the backs of several of the CRM test subjects which the Endlings have released into the mining tunnels with C4 strapped to their backs. Leo declares to the others that the CRM is sending them a signal so they're sending one back, reassuring the group that the CRM has brought them to this. While the others watch, Leo, Iris, Terry Ellis, Amanda Siegel and Dr. Ebersol detonate the C4, killing the fireteams searching for them in the tunnels who have just encountered and put down all of the empties. "No going back now," notes Felix. After exchanging a look with Mason, Hope detonates hers last.

Leo calls in over the radio, asking to speak to Jadis. Answering his call, Jadis admonishes Leo for killing her men, telling him that their lives might mean nothing to Leo, but they had dedicated their lives to fighting for a future, a future that the Endlings are putting at great risk for every living person on the planet. Leo tells her that the trap was only for show, and they're prepared to escalate even further. Jadis states that Leo has crossed a very serious line, but Leo tells her that the CRM destroyed their home and an entire surviving city full of living people and then tried to hide that from everyone.

Leo announces that they're done with the CRM and that they're all leaving today. Jadis doesn't think that Leo is any position to bargain with her, but Leo reveals that they have Mason Beale, giving Jadis pause. After a moment, Jadis accuses Leo of lying as Mason had left on an evacuation transport with the other students. Leo holds up the radio to Mason who hesitates to respond before Hope pleads with him to. After a moment, Mason speaks to Jadis and asks her to get him out of there. Increasingly angry but unable to do anything but bargain, Jadis asks what Leo wants and he asks for the two biggest transport trucks that she has with full tanks of gas and no tricks.

Jadis asks where they plan on going and if Leo plans on abandoning his role in finding a cure and in someday saving their entire species. However, Leo reiterates that the CRM are murderers and liars, and the scientists are no longer willing to continue working for them. Leo promises that if the CRM lets them go, the scientists will find another way to save everyone eventually, even the CRM. Jadis questions if everyone with him feels the same way and if they are all so quick to abandon the safety and security that the CRM has given them. Jadis insists that they won't find that outside of the CRM's walls and that "there is no progress out there. Only death and the dead." Jadis tells Leo to ask Hope as she's seen it. Iris, Felix and Leo give Hope surprised looks, but Leo simply tells Jadis that she has 30 minutes to get the trucks backed up to the service entrance near Guard Gate 1 and while they don't want to hurt Mason, they're prepared to escalate, causing Mason to give a worried look to Hope. Jadis agrees to give the Endlings the trucks and, as Felix heads off to meet them, furiously congratulates on Leo on roping a lot of smart people into a breathlessly stupid suicide mission.

Outside, Felix approaches the two trucks and examines them. Frank Newton reassures Felix that there's no tricks as the CRM aren't going to pull anything while the Endlings have Major General Beale's son. Frank furiously tells Felix that, if it were up to him, he would put a bullet in Felix's head right now for killing Frank's men in the mining tunnels. Felix orders Frank to have the trucks backed up to the service entrance with the keys in the ignition and promises to kill Frank if he ever sees him again.

Reentering the lab, Felix tells Leo that the trucks are ready and Leo states he and the others are heading out and they should keep radio communications to a minimum. Iris promises to let her father know when they've made it out and reassures him that he's got this. Leo tells Hope, Iris and Felix that as long as the CRM thinks that they're all leaving and that they've got Mason, they shouldn't try anything. Hope tells her father to be safe and he jokes that he should be saying that to her and Iris. Iris promises Leo that, if this works, they'll be right behind him. The three agree to no goodbyes and Leo asks Felix to take care of his daughters which Felix agrees to and asks Leo to take care of the other scientists, reminding Leo that all eyes are going to be on Leo for this part. Stating that that's the plan, Leo and the scientists leave while Felix prepares to depart with Hope, telling Iris to watch Mason and that they'll be back in 10 minutes.

Mason interrupts their departure, calling to Hope that there's nowhere that she can go that's better. As Percy orders him to shut up, Mason asks what if the Endlings never find this kind of safety again and what if this is their last chance at a future and they blow it. Seeing Hope wavering, Iris orders her sister to ignore Mason as he doesn't know anything about what the CRM has done, and Percy suggests that it might be time to tell him. Felix gets Hope moving, leaving Iris and Percy alone with Mason.

Hope and Felix, armed with S-Poles, reach the cold storage area. Felix tells Hope that they're going to get in, set the charges and get out with Hope adding that hopefully the others will meet them with the gas masks. Entering the area and looking around, Hope notes that it's pretty warm for cold storage which Felix agrees with. Hope wonders if the power outage knocked out power to cold storage as well, but Felix tells her that it's on a different grid. Seeing an empty moving around in the open freezer, Felix realizes that the test subjects being stored there have all thawed out. As empties approach from around the corner, Felix orders Hope to shut the freezer door and stabs one of the empties in the head with his S-Pole. However, the empty's head proves to be too frozen for it to penetrate, rendering Felix's weapon ineffective. Fighting the empties, Felix is able to knock one to the ground and smash its head with his foot before going after and finishing off the others while Hope puts down a zombified Lyla Belshaw.

Felix rejoins Hope as she stares at Lyla's corpse. Filled with new determination and finally completely disillusioned with the appeal of the research facility and the safety that it offers, Hope tells Felix that they need to plant the charges and get out of here, "fuck this place." However, upon opening the door to the area containing the chlorine gas, Hope and Felix find it all gone and Felix realizes that Jadis had moved everything somehow. With the gas moved, the power cut and the empties released, Hope and Felix realize that the CRM knew that they were coming for the gas and they quickly flee the cold storage area.

Returning to the lab, Hope and Felix reveal to Iris and Percy that the gas is gone. Iris insists that the gas has to be there somewhere, they just need to find it. However, Felix knows that there's no time to search for it as the CRM knows that they're still here. Iris suggests using the charges to do some damage on the way out, but Hope tells Iris that Silas is already leading a herd to the research facility to do that for them. Felix declares that Hope is right, and they stick to the exit plan. Percy asks what they do with Mason and Felix tells him that that part of the plan doesn't change: they drop Mason off somewhere a ways out and radio the CRM to pick him up. Angry, Iris asks if they're just giving up on saving Portland, but Felix reminds her that they can't save anyone until they save themselves. Once they get out, they'll radio the others about the change of plans and figure it out from there.

Turning to Mason, Iris demands to know where the gas is, but Mason doesn't know, and Hope asks how he could. Iris reminds Mason that his father is the head of this place, but Mason believes that his father wouldn't do any of the things that they're accusing him of without a reason and that he's a lot more sane than any of the Endlings. Iris continues to press Mason, but he insists that he doesn't know anything about the gas. Intervening, Percy reassures his girlfriend that they're going to figure this out and the group follows Felix's orders to leave.

Making their way up the stairs to the surface, Percy notes from the gunfire outside that Silas came through for them. Iris states that the more eyes that the CRM has on the empties, the less they'll have on the Endlings. Hope tells the others that they have to get out of here or the empties will be their problem as well. Returning from checking outside, Felix announces that the coast seems clear and asks which Humvee they are stealing. Percy provides Felix with the keys that he had stolen from one of the grounds crew using Tony's Ring Around the Rosy routine and tells him how to find it.

As Hope, Iris, Felix, Percy and Mason approach the jeeps, they are confronted by several CRM soldiers, including Jadis and Huck. Felix quickly turns his gun on Mason, forcing Jadis to order her men to hold their fire. Hope and Huck exchange a look as Jadis orders Team Alpha to stand fast over her radio as they have the Bennetts where they want them. Jadis asks the Endlings to talk, just them, and gives Felix instructions on how to adjust his radio accordingly. Stating that the Endlings want out of here while the CRM wants Mason Beale, Jadis asks how they will do this. Felix tells Jadis that they will turn Mason over to the CRM unharmed once they're out which will only happen when she lets them drive off in the jeep. However, Jadis calls this unacceptable as they haven't shown her anything to make Jadis trust them with Felix telling Jadis that they don't trust the CRM either. Jadis points out that there's the CRM, the Endlings and giant herd coming and challenges Felix to see who blinks first. Jadis states that the Endlings hadn't wanted to listen and now they are all in a no-win situation. Felix swears to God that he will kill Mason if Jadis tries anything and then Jadis is out of luck. Jadis reminds Felix that he will be too as the Endlings lose their leverage without Mason, causing Felix to threaten to kneecap Mason instead. Jadis understands that they're angry and blame the CRM for all of their troubles, but this is the outcome of their own actions, not the CRM's. Iris tells Jadis that the CRM didn't give them a choice, but Jadis thinks that they just don't understand.

Iris confronts Jadis about the CRM's lies and how they covered up their genocide of Omaha and the Campus Colony. Jadis tells Iris that this is the only world that she's ever known and is far too young to understand all that has been lost. Stepping forward, Iris furiously accuses Jadis and the CRM of murdering 100,000 people. Jadis tells the Endlings that all of those people were going to die anyway and the military had made the hard decision so that the civilians wouldn't have to. "Two years ago, the CRM's modeling revealed that the Alliance would soon become a drain on the Civic Republic's resources. Omaha, the Campus Colony, Portland... had become too reliant. They'd never be fully self-sustaining. So, it was only a matter of time before thousands faced a famine of devastating proportions. At best, those thousands would have died slowly. At worst, disease and conflict would have spread through the Civic Republic itself, and then? The light of the world... extinguished forever. Death wins. We made the choice to spare them that by ending it quickly for them so that there could be a chance for humanity to survive. What we did to your home was mercy," Jadis explains. The CRM made sure that all assets were extracted, including 10,000 children, and the greatest minds were sent to the research facility to contribute to scientific progress under the CRM's protection. Jadis insists that the people who died became an essential part of their study to stop reanimation and that their legacy will be stopping the dead from walking the world.

As Huck notices a CRM sniper moving in nearby, Hope demands to know what gives the CRM the right to choose who lives and who dies. Jadis berates the Endlings for looking at the world from their limited perspectives and criticizing the CRM when it is the CRM's work that made their very existence possible. The Endlings rant about injustices and unfairness while they compromise and possibly destroy the advances of the many that came before them. The CRM makes the hard choices so that other people don't have to. Jadis tells them to take a look around at their great plan at work and claims that all they're doing is stopping the march towards scientific progress and denying the world the path to its rightful future because the Endlings are mad at them for their actions. Jadis calls it cute if it wasn't so dangerous and pathetic.

With empties approaching from behind, Felix is forced to turn and shoot them. Headbutting Iris, Mason breaks free of Percy's hold and Jadis orders her men to make one shot kills. As Percy races after Mason, the Endlings engage the CRM with Iris killing one before Huck suddenly turns her gun on the soldiers, killing the sniper and one other before holding Jadis at gunpoint and forcing Jadis to disarm herself.

After Felix kills the last two soldiers, Iris turns to find Percy dead, having been shot in the back of the head during the skirmish. As a devastated Iris cries over her boyfriend's body, Hope retrieves her sister's dropped gun and turns it on Mason. Hope accuses Mason of being responsible, but the unrepentant Mason blames Hope and her family instead. Hope angrily tells Mason that he only had to come with them, and everyone would be okay, but Mason states that it's what Percy and Iris deserved, and orders Hope to look at what they've done. Hope realizes that Iris was right about Mason, that he is just like the rest of the CRM and that he never cared. Hope blames herself for not seeing it sooner and for Percy's death and prepares to kill Mason in revenge as Felix puts down several empties and gets into jeep. Coming up beside her sister, Iris tells her not to kill Mason as she'd only be doing something to herself all over again. Remembering how she accidentally killed Amelia Ortiz on the Night the Sky Fell, Hope finally relents and drops the gun. Felix drives up and Huck orders them to go. After a last look at Percy's body, Iris climbs into the jeep and they drive off. Left alone with Jadis, Huck forces her to move out of the way, exchanging a look with Felix as he briefly slows down while driving by.

Arriving at the rendezvous point, Hope, Iris and Felix find no sign of anyone else. Hope asks if Felix is sure that this is it and Felix explains that, with the gas out of play, he had Will and Indira head to the underground mall. Hope asks why Leo isn't answering as he should've been there already with everyone else. Felix tries to raise Leo on the radio again and Leo reveals that they got stuck after a tire blew on one of the trucks due to spikes in the road. Leo and the others have loaded as many people as they could onto the second truck and sent it ahead. Felix asks for Leo's location and Leo explains that they're about 2 miles due west of the rendezvous point, having lost some time detouring around a herd. Leo thinks that they can patch the tire, but whoever left the spikes can't be far behind. Felix orders Leo to sit tight as he's coming which Leo acknowledges. With the jeep too easy to spot from the air, Felix decides to go on foot and Hope promises that they are good to wait for the others to arrive. The grief-stricken Iris doesn't respond, and Felix grabs his S-Pole from the jeep and heads off to find Leo.

"The Last Light"[]

At the roadside, Leo puts down an empty an S-Pole before Felix joins him and the others. Felix asks if everyone is safe, and Leo informs him that the rest of the scientists got to safety on the second truck. It's just them, two others and a decade's worth of research left. Spotting a CRM jeep pulling up, the four men quickly hide in the woods. Lieutenant Frank Newton emerges with two CRM soldiers and Frank calls for them to surrender, stating that they can't win this.

Exchanging a look, Leo and Felix emerge from hiding and open fire on the CRM soldiers, sparking a gunfight. Suddenly, Will joins them, armed with a CRM rifle. Will explains that he was headed to the underground mall with the others, but he doubled back after hearing Leo's distress call. Still under fire, Leo states that they can't do this forever, and Will orders the other two to split the soldiers up as it will be easier to pick them off. Felix decides to circle around as a decoy and cut through the trees, stating that Frank is an asshole who is sure to take the bait. As Leo and Will provide covering fire, Felix grabs Leo's S-Pole and heads off through the trees, chased by Frank. The two men exchange fire as they run before Felix runs out of bullets as he reaches a gated area with a herd on the other side of it.

Advancing on Felix, Frank tells him that people like Felix are worse than the dead because they are helping the dead win, but today, Felix loses. As three empties approach, Frank is forced to turn and shoot them, running out of bullets in the process and switching to a nightstick-type weapon for the last one. Turning his attention back to Felix, Frank declares that it's actually better like this and challenges Felix to a fight, reminding Felix of his promise to kill Frank if Felix ever met him again. Stating that he's read Felix's psych report, Frank sadistically taunts him that Felix has failed all of the people at the Campus Colony that he swore to protect, his boyfriend whom Frank claims came to the research facility to get away from him and Felix's own parents didn't want anything to do with him. Frank offers Felix a fair fight, using only the weapons that they're holding while secretly drawing a knife from behind his back. Frank asks if Felix intends to add him to that list, but rather than fall for Frank's taunting, Felix uses his S-Pole to cut open the gate and releases the herd upon Frank, telling him "yeah. Have fun" as more walkers come at Frank from behind as well and Felix shelters behind the open gate.

Frank manages to put down several of the empties before Felix closes the gate on the herd again, leaving the two men facing off against only each other and the empties approaching from further down the road. Combining his two S-Poles into one double-bladed S-Pole, Felix declares that it's now a fair fight. The two men attack each other with their weapons, having to occasionally put down attacking empties from both sides after the herd gets the gate open again. Finally, as Frank charges at Felix, Felix stabs the other man in the abdomen with his S-Pole and brutally disembowels him. As Felix watches, the approaching empties descend upon Frank and devour him.

That night, Felix stands guard with a pair of binoculars outside of Dolsons. Walking inside, Felix approaches the cot where an unconscious Elton is laying with Asha at his side and Leo tending to him following the amputation of part of his left arm due to an empty bite. Leo leads Felix over to where Hope and Iris are standing and tells him that Elton's breathing shallow and has lost a lot of blood, maybe too much to survive. Leo suggests that they should secure Elton just in case he dies and Hope tells Felix that Elton had saved her life. Will calls Indira over and hands her two boxes of vials that were in Elton's bag which Elton had stolen from the research facility. Indira tells the others that it's the medicine that she needs to live with her kidney failure.

Later, Iris approaches Hope as she sits vigil at a still unconscious Elton's bedside, reading a book. Hope tells her sister that the book is Elton's and that he had started writing a book. Leo approaches his daughters and Iris tells him that she was talking with some of Indira's people and a bunch of them want to leave and head to Portland to warn them once it's safe in a few days. Leo asks if Iris wants the scientists to go with them, and Hope objects that they can't leave Elton. However, Iris isn't suggesting that they should. While Iris knows that the underground mall isn't permanent, it seems safe, and Cornell University is nearby and there must be lab equipment there. If the scientists stay, they can keep working on this place and the science for years.

Leo realizes that Iris wants to go with the people that are leaving, and she admits that she thinks that it's what she's supposed to do. Iris knows that she might not be making any sense right now, but Hope feels that she is: this isn't about them, but the future. Not the CRM's future, but the future of everybody. That's how Hope feels and she's sure that it's how Elton feels too. Leo tells Iris that he loves her, but he can't just let her go. Iris promises that she'd come back with reinforcements from Portland. Will suggests that maybe he and Felix can go with Iris too, but Iris refuses as there's too much at stake here, too much that needs to be protected. Felix agrees with Iris, stating that the CRM's close and the scientists aren't fighters, but Iris is.

A few days later, Iris and several people prepare to depart for Portland while Hope, Indira, Felix, Will, and some of the others stay with Leo. Indira reassures Leo that Iris is in good hands with her people and vice versa as they watch Iris say goodbye to Felix and Will. Iris gives Will a map showing her route to Portland in case he needs to find her for any reason and Felix asks Iris to take care of herself to which Iris returns the sentiment, asking Felix and Will to take care of each other. Iris tearfully turns to her sister and Hope remembers how she said that they would save the world together. Hope still thinks that they could with Iris adding that they can even if they're not together anymore. "All this... it didn't change us. It just showed us that who we are is who we were," comments Iris. Hope and Iris hug each other and exchange I love yous before Iris begins to leave. Stopping Iris, Hope gives her a double middle finger, causing Leo and Indira to laugh. Hope tells her sister to "grin, girl" and Iris returns the middle finger with a laugh. Leo waves goodbye with Will blows Iris a kiss and she begins ascending the escalator out. Suddenly, Asha runs in with the news that Elton is awake, stopping Iris' departure. Elated by the news, everyone rushes to Elton's side.

Later, Hope works with her father and the other scientists in continuing their experiments on an empty using Hope's earlier yeast theory which shows some promising results. Taking advantage of the mall's dark room, Hope develops Elton's pictures from the Endlings' cross-country journey to New York, including the group photo of Huck, Hope, Silas, Iris and Felix at the high school.

Felix joins Will in their room at the mall, now married to each other and with the dog that Will had dreamed of one day having together.
