A Fire Axe is a large axe used for fighting fires.
Pre-Apocalypse[]
Fire axes were often kept alongside fire extinguishers to help fight potential fires. They were also used by fire departments.
Post-Apocalypse[]
Original TV Series[]
At Bradbury's, Rick Grimes breaks a fire axe out of its case and uses it to chop up the body of Wayne Dunlap so that Rick and Glenn can cover themselves in walker guts in order to sneak through a herd. After successfully disguising their smell, Rick carries the fire axe with him through Atlanta to a nearby construction site. When a sudden storm washes the smell off of Rick and Glenn, Rick uses his fire axe to fight the rest of the way to the construction site. Although Rick tosses the fire axe over the fence before climbing it, he abandons the weapon on the ground rather than picking it up and continuing to use it.
While trapped in the Center for Disease Control which is soon to explode, Daryl Dixon and Shane Walsh fruitlessly try to break through a locked door with fire axes. Later, they try the same thing with a window, but it fails to break as well. After Rick blows open the window with a grenade, Daryl decapitates a walker that he runs by with his fire axe.
While fighting with the Whisperers in an abandoned apartment building, Daryl kills one by swinging a fire axe into his chest.
Fear the Walking Dead[]
While trapped in Brackenridge Hospital, Luciana arms herself with a fire axe that she found. While rescuing Morgan from the hospital roof, Luciana uses the axe to keep nearby walkers off of the group's back alongside Alicia and June.
After being released from his room in the Sanctuary by June, Dwight retrieves a fire axe and uses it to put down the walkers trapping his wife Sherry under a fallen section of fence. In order to buy June time to operate on Dove, Dwight and Sherry hold off the herd with Dwight using his axe while Sherry shoots the walkers. At one point, Dwight is able to put down a walker with metal covering its head, the axe blade easily penetrating the metal unlike bullets which have to be aimed around it.
While Dwight carries his fire axe with him when Marty's Group shows up, he abandons it on the floor of the Sanctuary's main room while trying to figure out a way to survive as the building is flooded with walkers and collapses.
Telltale Series[]
Lee Everett retrieves a fire axe from the Travelier Motel which acts as his primary weapon for the first few months of the outbreak. Lee uses it to put it down his zombified brother and lends it to Kenny, Mark and Larry. The fire axe is later taken from him by the St. John family.
Years later, Sullene and Minerva use another fire axe against a herd following the destruction of the S.S. Stewarts Fitzgerald. Minerva later attacks Clementine with the fire axe, slashing her leg, before she's devoured by the herd. Clementine takes the fire axe and uses it against walkers while AJ later uses it to amputate her bitten leg.
