“ | Two years ago, the CRM's modeling revealed that the Alliance would soon become a drain on the Civic Republic's resources. Omaha, the Campus Colony, Portland... had become too reliant. They'd never be fully self-sustaining. So, it was only a matter of time before thousands faced a famine of devastating proportions. At best, those thousands would have died slowly. At worst, disease and conflict would have spread through the Civic Republic itself, and then? The light of the world... extinguished forever. Death wins. We made the choice to spare them that by ending it quickly for them so that there could be a chance for humanity to survive. What we did to your home was mercy.

The Genocide of Omaha is a major event that took place during AMC's The Walking Dead: World Beyond.
History[]
Prelude[]
About eight years into the Trials, the CRM's modeling shows that the Alliance of the Three has become too dependent upon them and will never be self-sustaining. As a result, thousands will face a famine of devastating proportions leading to a chain reaction of disasters that could spread into the Civic Republic itself. As a result, the CRM decides to wipe out Omaha, the Campus Colony and Portland using a variant of Chlorine Gas developed by Drs. Lyla Belshaw and Samuel Abbott. Using the guise of a scientific exchange, the CRM brings many of the best minds from the three cities to their research facility, both for safety and to continue their work.
In order to know where best to strike, the CRM sends Staff Sergeant Jennifer Mallick, looking to make amends for a past mistake, on an undercover observe and report operation into both Omaha and the Campus Colony. Unaware of the true nature of her mission, Jennifer's report shows the CRM the best places and time to target. Supposedly, before enacting the massacres, the CRM ensures that all assets are extracted, including 10,000 children and the greatest minds.
The Massacre[]
Using the intel from Jennifer Mallick's observe and report mission, the CRM knows exactly where the masses will gather to commemorate Monument Day in the plazas and the parks. Knowing precisely where to target, the CRM is able to hit Omaha with a single chemical strike from the Chlorine Gas, killing everyone there. However, a badly burned Galbraith manages to escape.
The next day, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Elizabeth Kublek, the CRM lures a massive herd to the destroyed city while covering up the lack of communication to the Campus Colony and Portland by offering their help in the investigation. The CRM detonates C4 along Omaha's perimeter wall and allows the herd to overrun the city as a coverup for their massacre. The badly injured Galbraith manages to make his way to Elizabeth's position, but she has him killed by Lieutenant Frank Newton and Delta Team informed that they've found their escapee. Frank reports that the lane to the Campus Colony has been cleared and they will have the herd there within 72 hours once its work in Omaha is completed.
Aftermath[]
In a news report viewed by Rick Grimes and Pearl Thorne, the news anchor reports that initial surveys show a collapsed section of the city's perimeter barrier and that the CRM would investigate if it was caused by pressure from a herd in the coming weeks. The news report goes on to state that the city's outer walls fell to incursions with failed countermeasures, leading to six-hour periods of neighborhoods falling, eventually followed by the city itself. There were two collapses or possible detonations which effectively trapped the city's population. One building where hundreds of people gathered was the last to fall. Although its doors held, supposedly something occurred inside of the building itself to leading to some initial deaths, reanimations, and everyone inside ultimately dying. Thorne tells Rick that people were most likely responsible and suggests that Omaha letting other people know where they are unlike the Civic Republic had led to their downfall.
Upon the arrival of the Endlings in New York six weeks later, the CRM finally discloses the destruction of Omaha and the Campus Colony to both Portland and the Civic Republic. However, the Endlings quickly deduce the truth about the destruction of their home and organize a rebellion with the help of Jennifer Mallick who becomes horrified by the truth. Jadis later reveals to the Endlings the true reason for the massacres and Jennifer's vital role in pulling them off. The Endlings get the scientists to take their research data and flee while orchestrating the destruction of the research facility via a massive herd led there by Elton Ortiz and Silas Plaskett. Discovering the CRM's store of the chlorine gas at Civic Republic Cull Facility 1, Jennifer sacrifices herself to destroy it and prevent the CRM from using it massacre Portland.
When Rick agrees to join his plan to change the CRM from the inside, Lieutenant Colonel Donald Okafor comments that there will be "no more Omaha's" if they succeed, suggesting that Okafor is aware of what really happened to the city and was possibly involved in it.
As a part of the Echelon Briefing, Major General Beale reveals the truth about the destruction of Omaha and the Campus Colony to Rick as well as the CRM's plans to do the same thing to Portland. Along with the destruction of Portland, the CRM plans to use the destruction of Omaha and the Campus Colony to justify declaring martial law over the Civic Republic itself to further the CRM's genocidal goals.
However, after Rick kills Beale and he and Michonne wipe out the Frontliners and the CRM Force Command, the couple reveals the truth about the CRM's atrocities to the Civic Republic Council. Taking emergency oversight of the CRM, the council determines that the CRM's command hierarchies and layers of operational secrecy indicates that infantry units didn't participate in the atrocities perpetrated by the highest levels of the CRM.
Casualties[]
Results[]
- Successful destruction of Omaha, Nebraska and extermination of its residents
- Successful coverup by allowing a massive herd to overrun the community
