After a car crash, a police officer who was transporting convicted Lee Everett to Meriwether County Correctional Facility, ends up getting surrounded by walkers due to the crashing noise that attracted the ones infesting the woods. Eventually, he gets devoured. Lee, who survived the crash but sustained a large cut on his leg, regains consciousness after drifting in and out while remaining in the back seat unnoticed. He crawls out of the car and walks towards the dead officer who remains laying down in a clearing. Lee decides to try to unlock his cuffs so he can move his hands more freely. He manages to grab the keys and unlocks his cuffs, but is suddenly attacked by the now zombified officer, terrifying Lee, where he backs up against the side of the crashed police car. Grabbing the officer’s shotgun and a nearby shell, he barely manages to load the cartridge into the chamber before preparing the shotgun. With no other options and with the zombie about to reach him, Lee hesitantly blows the officer’s head off, putting him down permanently, marking this as Lee’s first walker kill. While sitting quietly to get his bearings, he notices a figure in the distance and calls out to it to get help. He then hears growling and after looking towards the trees, he notices more walkers close in on him. He then desperately gets up, despite the injured leg. After some close calls, such as tripping over the officer’s corpse and lagging behind, he manages to reach the wooden fence, just before he could get grabbed and climbs over, escaping the woods into a neighborhood.
