The tale the people on the farm told, she was living with her dad. He took off one night, didn't come back. She went looking for him. She found him. He, uh, he'd turned. It was bad. She could tell by looking at him that it wasn't the dead. It wasn't an animal. It was a person or people. She just hasn't spoken since.
Negan Smith to Maggie Rhee about Ginny.[src]

Ginny's father is a survivor of the outbreak in AMC's The Walking Dead: Dead City.

Pre-Apocalypse[]

Location Unknown[]

Nothing is known about this man's life prior to or as the outbreak began.

Post-Apocalypse[]

New Babylon Federation[]

At some point after the outbreak, he had a daughter named Ginny, although it's unknown what happened to her mother.

Alongside four other men, including a New Babylon marshal, he beat and robbed Annie Smith.

One night Ginny's father left and didn't come back. Along with the other men involved in the attack on Annie, he went out drinking and he was confronted by Annie's husband Negan in revenge for the attack on his wife. While Negan would later state that he wasn't sure that he intended to kill the men, during the confrontation, he ended up killing all five of them, in a horrific manner in at least the case of Ginny's father who subsequently reanimated. When Ginny went looking for him, she found him as a walker and based on his injuries she could tell that he was killed by another human in a horrific manner. Ginny hasn't talked since that night while Negan went on the run for murdering the five men for the next few years.

After learning of Ginny's existence, Negan tracked her down at the farm where Ginny was living after her father's death, feeling responsible for her since he had killed the only family that Ginny had. When the marshals finally caught up to Negan, Ginny insisted upon coming with him, and Negan took the young girl with him in order to find her a safe new home. Negan never revealed to Ginny that he had killed her father, instead lying that he was wanted for robbing a wagon train.

Season 1[]

"Old Acquaintances"[]

Negan tells Maggie about what had happened to Ginny's father. In addition, Negan's murder of Ginny's father and the other four men are mentioned by Perlie Armstrong as he searches for Negan. While talking about the murders, Negan tells Maggie that it didn't go down as the marshals claim and he thinks that he's paid enough already for it.

"People Are a Resource"[]

Negan emotionally reveals to a sympathetic Maggie that "a few years ago, Joshua, Annie and I, we were living in this little cabin outside of New Babylon. One day, Annie decided to go into town to do some trading. When she wasn't home at nightfall, I uh... I knew something had gone wrong. I went looking for her, I found her. And she had been uh... she had been... she'd been robbed, and beaten and, uh... She begged me not to do something stupid, but hell, you know me. I found 'em. All five of 'em, in some shit drinking hole. Honestly, I don't think I even wanted to kill 'em. After that, we were on the run, and it was very hard for Annie. So, I put 'em on a wagon train to Missouri and I said I'd be right behind 'em. I stayed. I think about them every single day. I hope to God they are okay, and maybe I have no right in hoping that. I don't know, Maggie. I mean, what else do we have besides hope?"

"Stories We Tell Ourselves"[]

Perlie tells Negan that saving his life doesn't bring back the magistrate and the four other men with him that Negan had killed. "Those assholes, they damn near killed my wife. If you had seen what she looked like when I found her, well, I guarantee you'd done the same," Negan states. Perlie is visibly surprised by this, apparently having been unaware of what had happened to Negan's wife.

"Doma Smo"[]

Negan finally admits to Ginny, much to everyone's shock, that "I killed your dad. I'm not wanted for robbing a wagon train. I killed five men. And your daddy, he was one of them. It's why I tracked you down to the farm. Why I let you tag along, 'cause I knew you had no one. You? You're just a debt that I had to pay. That's it." Heartbroken by the revelation and Negan's harsh words, Ginny leaves with Perlie. Once Ginny's gone, Negan becomes visibly upset by what he had to do in order to get Ginny to leave, leaving Maggie visibly sympathetic with him. Maggie later acknowledges just how hard it must've been for Negan to do.

Death[]

Killed By

In revenge for the attack on his wife, by Ginny's father and four other men, Negan killed Ginny's father in an apparently horrific manner. He subsequently reanimated.

Ginny later found her zombified father and put him down, but she was left severely traumatized by this event.
