Lilly, I'm sorry. I appreciate all you done for us. Really, I do. Stepping up and all. But I just ain't got it in me to put my ass on the line for these people.
―Gloria to Lilly about saving the Church group.[src]

Gloria Pyne is a survivor of the outbreak in Skybound Entertainment's Comic Universe. She is a main character in Thomas Dunne Books' The Walking Dead and a minor antagonist in Image Comics' The Walking Dead. She is a resident of Woodbury and a member of the Woodbury Army, and later Lilly Caul's close inner circle.

She is described as "a small, compact, ruddy-skinned woman—tough around the eyes— with deep crow's-feet that belies her age and a thick thatch of red hair tucked under a visor that says I AM WITH STUPID."

Pre-Apocalypse[]

Portersville, Georgia[]

Gloria was born as an only child and lived in the sprawling metropolis of Portersville. She had a father, who passed away years ago, whom she admired as he was a self-taught intellectual eighteen-wheeler driver, reading all the time and listening to books on tape. She used to wear her visor cap like a good luck charm and figures the phrase, I AM WITH STUPID, could represent every man she is ever dated, as she thinks she is not a very good judge of character.

For over 20 years, she had been the go-to colorist and cut girl at the Curl Up and Dye Salon. She long ago lost count of how many heads she tinted, teased, and trimmed & suffered the occupational hazard of yearning to touch any people's hair.

Post-Apocalypse[]

Savannah, Georgia[]

At the beginning of the outbreak, Gloria's mom was living in a nursing home in Savannah. Gloria met up with her and the two briefly travelled together for a short time.

Hinesville, Georgia[]

Gloria's mom couldn't take the grief and stress of the apocalypse and died shortly after. Gloria buried her herself in a potter’s field up to Hinesville. She sees this as one of the saddest moments of her life. After this she decided she was going to go and live out west in the mountains to be a hermit.

Woodbury, Georgia[]

Gloria started hitchhiking out west, which was a poor and risky mode of transport early on in the outbreak. She makes it as far as Woodbury where she stays and likely becomes a supply runner.

The Fall of the Governor - Part Two[]

Gloria is first seen among the crowd in the Woodbury arena listening to the Governor's speech before he reveals Martínez's head.

Gloria takes part in the prison assault. She survives the first attack and retreats along with the rest of the militia. The Governor orders Raymond Hilliard to pick a small group to scout the perimeter of the prison overnight and look for any weak spots in their compound as well as suspicious movement. Gloria is chosen along with James Steagal, Daniel, Eric, and Gabriel Harris for the team.

At precisely 6:17 P.M. eastern standard time, two residents of the prison slip into the trees unnoticed by the militia while Raymond's scouting party still discuss what weapons to bring along, how much ammo, and what supplies. Gloria asks if her Tec-9 is enough but Ray tells her to bring an extra magazine or two just in case. The party travels light bringing only enough to defend themselves. They reach a clearing and Ray gestures everybody to get down. They decide to find higher ground to get a look at what's going on in the prison. The group heads back up the trail and waits at the top of the ridge while Jim urinates in the woods.

After Michonne and Tyreese counterattack the militia by killing Jim and attacking Ray, Gloria stands at the edge of the clearing alongside Gabe, Daniel and Eric; confused as to where the attackers went. Gabe orders the soldiers to search the area and tells Gloria to stay quiet and follow behind him. They get distracted by the attackers throwing pebbles from in hiding and are ambushed by Michonne. The skirmish lasts only a few seconds but by the end of it, Eric has been killed and Tyreese injured with a shot to the leg. Gabe orders Gloria and the others to keep Tyreese alive and down while he chases after Michonne. The group carries Tyreese back to the camp while Gloria carries and armful of rifles and weapons.

After the fall of the prison, Gloria and a small group of surviving soldiers hold up in the prison to regroup. As they count their ammo, Gloria has a full mag of 30 5.56mm slugs for her AR-15 and she loans Austin her spare Glock 17. Later on during the night, Gloria comes out half asleep with red puffy eyes, huddled in packing blanket and sees Austin's bite on his wrist and is ordered to go back to sleep by Lilly Caul. As Lilly takes Matthew and Ben to search the corridor, Gloria stays back with her gun and holds the prison cell block. Later that day, Austin sacrifices himself while Lilly leads Gloria and the others out of the prison, they reach Lilly's truck and Gloria sits in the passenger seat next to Lilly. As she quietly shuts the door, she catches a glimpse of Austin being devoured by walkers. On the journey back to Woodbury, she tries to talk to Lilly but is ignored.

Descent[]

TBA

Gloria continues her life in Woodbury. She is very suspicious about Reese, a young recruiter of a small group led by Jeremiah Garlitz. Religious Jeremiah turns out to be a mad man, who actually wants to murder everyone around him to be united with God and Heaven. He poisons a lot of Woodburians, and leads a so-called superherd to Woodbury, killing almost everyone inside and many of his group as well. Gloria survives his suicide pact along with few others by escaping onto the courthouse roof.

Invasion[]

Gloria settles into a nearby sewer after the destruction of Woodbury.

TBA

Death[]

Killed By

During a supply run, Gloria is bitten on her ankle by a walker.

Trivia[]

  • Gloria's name and occupation was revealed in The Walking Dead: The Fall of the Governor.
  • Gloria is one of the six Woodburians who survived the prison assault, along with Speed Wilkins, Lilly Caul, Ben Buchholz, Matthew Hennesey, and Hap Abernathy.
  • In the comic series Gabe asks Matthew for Michonne's sword, however in the novel 'The Fall of the Governor' Gloria is the one who gives Gabe Michonne's sword. This is likely a correction because Matthew wasn't present during Tyreese and Michonne's attack and Gloria is seen returning with all the weapons.
    • It's also possible that originally Matthew was supposed to be scouting the area and not Raymond, and he had the sword on his back.
