Greenland (Greenlandic: Kalaallit Nunaat) is a North American island autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark. It is a location that appears in Skybound Comet's Clementine and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.

Pre-Apocalypse[]

Greenland was first inhabited by Inuit peoples around 2500 BCE. Nordic settlers first arrived on the island starting from 986 CE. From 1721 to 1814, it was colony of "Denmark-Norway" before the treaty of Kiel on January 14, 1814. On May 1, 1979, Greenland became an autonomous region under home rule and remained that way until the outbreak. In the Television Universe, Greenland gained full autonomy from Denmark on June 21, 2009.

Post-Apocalypse[]

Television Universe[]

It's unclear what happened to Greenland during the onset of the outbreak following the collapse of the Danish government, but given its sparse population, it likely fared better than the rest of the world. However, the fate of Greenland's capital city, Nuuk, remains unknown if it had either survived the initial outbreak or if it has been overrun.

As a part of their flight plan to France from Maine, Carol and Ash determine that they will make a pit stop in Greenland. Carol and Ash land near the Climate Research Station where they fight off a small herd, including two lurkers, before meeting Eun and Hanna, two research scientists who were left stuck at the station when the world ended. Ash finds supplies to fix the plane's damaged fuel line, but Eun holds a belief that the human race will die out unless they repopulate and plots to have Ash impregnant her and Hanna while Hanna kills Carol. However, Carol convinces Hanna to turn on her friend and Hanna kills Eun with Daryl's Crossbow. Mistakenly believing Carol to be in danger from the other woman, Ash kills Hanna before he and Carol leave Greenland.

For the return journey from France, Ash rigs his plane so that he won't have to stop in Greenland to refuel again. Daryl comments that he'd heard what had occurred from Carol.
