I remember you. You want my wife? Now you will be together every night. Because I'll mount her head on your bedpost!
―Guillermo preparing to kill Paz, also his last words.[src]

Guillermo Torres is an antagonist and survivor of the outbreak in AMC's The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. He is the leader of El Alcázar and the Alliance and the future king of Spain. He served as one of the two primary antagonists of Season 3 (along with Federico de Rivera).

Overview[]

Guillermo is shown to be a cruel, arrogant, and vile man. He is shown to be quite strict, threatening to abandon Solaz for good if he finds out his soldiers were killed and the townspeople are lying, but it is unknown if he actually cared about his soldiers, or was doing it out of arrogance and authority to maintain his royal placement. He becomes angered, almost jealous, revealing to Elena how he saw the way she looked at Paz earlier. He ends up ready to murder Paz with a sword, threatening to mount Elena's head next to her bedpost, but ends up getting taken out by both Elena and Paz, putting an end to his treacherous ways and El Alcázar for good.

Pre-Apocalypse[]

Spain[]

Nothing is known about Guillermo's life prior to or as the outbreak began, except that his family is supposedly related to the royal family of Spain. He likely grew up alongside his brother, Felipe.[1]

Post-Apocalypse[]

At some point after the outbreak began, Guillermo's father used his supposed royal blood to claim the Spanish monarchy, forming El Alcázar and eventually the Alliance, making Guillermo the crown prince of Spain.

Season 3[]

"La Ofrenda"[]

A convoy arrives in Solaz del Mar with the residents cheering and bowing. Antonio explains to Daryl and Carol that the convoy is from El Alcázar, the last vestige of the Spanish monarchy, or so El Alcázar claims. El Alcázar's leader, Guillermo, is to be the next Spanish king. Once a year, El Alcázar visits the northern villages, bringing gifts and offering protection. Fede greets Guillermo, who offers him a chest full of gifts. A man, Jaime, angrily interrupts, demanding to know where his daughter is, whom he hasn't seen in five years. Jaime tries to attack Guillermo, but is restrained and dragged away by El Alcázar soldiers. Addressing the crowd, Guillermo announces to his subjects that the next day they will eat, drink, and hold La Ofrenda. As a punishment for his actions, Jaime is strung up in the square with rocks tied to his feet, a method of torture called strappado. Despite being in intense pain, Jaime defiantly yells at the soldiers to increase the weight. Guillermo complies and directs his men to put the foodstuffs in one location and the weapons in the storehouse.

Secretly meeting with Paz, Elena mentions that she had convinced Guillermo to let her come this time so that she could see Paz again.

As night falls, many of the townspeople sit down for dinner. Guillermo is seated at the main table with Elena, Federico, Daryl, Carol, Marga, Justina, Alba, and Carmen. Daryl and Carol explain that they had come from America via a boat, a plane, and another boat. Through Elena, Guillermo asks about the outside world, and Daryl tells him that the whole world pretty much sucks, but England is the worst, as there's no one left alive there. After dinner and refreshments, Guillermo listens as Justina says a few words on Alba's behalf, and Marga reprimands Carol for her judgment on their customs. Breaking the tension, Fede announces that it's time for the dance. Guillermo and Elena are amongst the crowd enjoying the dance and the bonfire while Daryl secretly hunts down and kills Manuel and the two soldiers with him.

"El Sacrificio"[]

The next day, accompanied by four armed El Alcázar soldiers, a furious Guillermo Torres storms into Fede's office, leaving two of his men to guard the door outside. Fede offers Guillermo his best cognac, but he's uninterested. Guillermo reveals that a few days before, some of his men were attacked and left for dead, having supposedly stopped at the river for water. Manuel got away, but he went missing the night before while everyone was celebrating, along with two others. Sergio promises that they will send out a search party immediately, but Guillermo has already had his men searching all night.

Guillermo questions what kind of town Solaz del Mar is, having been shouted down by a man upon arrival, and the people openly question the Alliance. Fede reassures Guillermo that Carol is only passing through, and he tries to make her see that guests should not be so outspoken. In any case, Guillermo senses distrust and reluctance in Solaz, and it makes him wonder if the town is worthy of El Alcázar's continued protection. Fede promises Guillermo that Solaz values their place in the Alliance and appreciates the security and the gifts that El Alcázar offers. Guillermo demands that he prove it, threatening that otherwise El Alcázar will leave Solaz immediately, and they may never return. "There are other towns, you know... With other girls." Fede kisses Guillermo's ring, and he drinks the cognac, complaining about the taste, before leaving.

Later that night, Guillermo and El Alcázar leave Solaz del Mar with Justina.

"Contrabando"[]

Guillermo remains part of the Alcázar convoy along with Elena, their armed escorts, and the Ofrenda tributes as they travel through Barcelona to the Alcázar outpost of Ciutat Vella in the city. Upon approaching a checkpoint leading into Ciutat Vella, they are attacked by survivors from the Barcelona Refugee Community. Guillermo remains in his vehicle as soldiers and resistance fighters shoot at each other. At one point, he and Elena are transferred from one vehicle to another. Guillermo notices Elena staring at Paz, raising his suspicions. His life almost ended after Laia shot a rocket towards her vehicle, but the projectile missed and struck the gate, thanks to Paz's efforts. Guillermo shot Laia in retaliation, causing her to be devoured by the herd that was released. Guillermo and the rest of the convoy then proceed through the gate into the outpost, separating them from the resistance fighters.

"Solaz del Mar"[]

Justina gets ready for the Matching ceremony and watches in the mirror as Guillermo and Elena talk. Guillermo notes that they were lucky to make it out of Barcelona, and Elena agrees that it was very scary. Guillermo furiously reveals that he saw how his wife looked at Paz during the failed rescue attempt in Barcelona, the same look Guillermo also saw her giving Paz in Solaz del Mar. Guillermo walks away, and Justina exchanges a look with two girls cleaning the floors in the courtyard below.

At night, the El Alcázar nobles enjoy a marionette show with walkers being manipulated by people controlling them via strings, serving as the "puppets." Refilling glasses, Paz points out the king and queen of Spain, who are sitting at a table right in front of the stage, to Daryl. After the play is over, the king gives a speech to his people. "If we are to win this war, between the living and the dead, the flame of human consciousness, must keep burning. This is my duty as your king. And someday, Guillermo will carry on. Along with his beautiful future queen, Elena."

A gramophone record is started as the girls chosen in La Ofrenda are lined up on a small stage in front of the courtyard's fountain. The king declares that the Matching isn't just a ritual, but a vow these young people will take, a promise that they make to the future. Various young men each select a girl, choosing a rose that symbolizes the girl they have chosen. Guillermo knows that this must be hard for his wife, and threateningly suggests that he needs to remind Elena what her place is. As Felipe chooses between the last three girls, including Justina and Gabriella, Justina removes her ponytail, and Felipe chooses her. As she climbs off the stage, Justina catches Daryl's eye and seems to recognize her friend even behind his mask, distracting the girl for a moment. The frightened remaining two girls are led away by El Alcázar soldiers. Justina hides a knife up her sleeve as Daryl tells Paz that he's still working on a plan and walks away.

Daryl sneaks backstage, where the overseer finds him. Daryl knocks the man out with a headbutt and cuts the walkers loose with his sword. The walkers fall off-stage onto the unaware nobles, causing chaos to break out. Having been at the table directly in front of the stage, the king and queen are amongst the first to be devoured. Guillermo and Elena flee while Felipe agrees to take Justina with him. Daryl orders Paz to get Elena and meet him back at their vehicles. Throwing a small lantern at the stage curtains, Daryl starts a fire as he chases after Justina. As chaos reigns, Daryl spots the Ofrenda girls huddled around a fire before continuing.

Paz finds Elena's room, frightening her at first, before Paz removes her mask. The two women embrace before a young boy, Pablo, enters. Elena asks the young boy why he isn't asleep, and Paz finally understands why her girlfriend had to come back to El Alcázar: she has a son with Guillermo Torres who was waiting for her at home. Paz and Pablo greet each other, and Elena introduces Paz as her dearest friend. Paz warns Elena that they don't have much time if Elena and Pablo want to go with her. Elena agrees and goes into the other room with her son to pack their things. As Paz collects herself, a guard comes in, and Paz hits him with a throwing knife. Paz goes to finish him off, but is knocked out by a blow from the other side of the door.

In both a flashback and the present, Paz is dragged across the ground. In the flashback, it's revealed that the man who had stabbed her was Guillermo, who is the man who had captured her in the present. "I remember you. You want my wife? Now you will be together every night. Because I'll mount her head on your bedpost!" Before Guillermo can kill Paz, Elena stabs her husband through the back with a sword, saving Paz's life. Taking the sword, Paz tells Elena to get her son before turning her attention to the dying man. Declaring that she remembers Guillermo, too, Paz stabs and kills the future king of Spain.
