Hanna is a former antagonist and a survivor of the outbreak in AMC's The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. She served as the tertiary antagonist of the episode "Moulin Rouge".
Overview[]
Hanna wants civilization to end, believing the end of the world to be Mother Nature's revenge for humanity wrecking the world. Unlike the ruthless and controlling Eun, Hanna is more timid and kind, and visibly terrified when she tries to kill Carol Peletier on Eun's orders despite the fact that Hanna is not a killer. Hanna is clearly submissive to Eun in a way that's at least borderline if not outright abusive with Eun impressing her will upon the weaker willed woman to the point that Hanna puts Eun's wants above her own, describing this place as killing her. A survivor of abuse herself, Carol is able to help Hanna break free of Eun's control to do what she really wants: to leave. Before being killed by Ash, Hanna expresses excitement at the possibility of a new life in France.
Pre-Apocalypse[]
Greenland[]
Nothing is known about Hanna's life prior to or as the outbreak began, except that she learned some French when she was in school and she was researching climate change in Greenland for her PhD along with Eun.
Post-Apocalypse[]
When the apocalypse began, the two were trapped at their research lab for years.
Season 2[]
"Moulin Rouge"[]
As Carol and Ash fight off walkers in a field, Eun and Hanna arrive to help, having heard Ash's Plane and Hanna shoots the last walker, saving Ash's life. "Welcome to Greenland," calls Eun. Ash is excited to see other survivors, but Carol is more wary of the new people.
Walking through the hills in Greenland, Eun introduces herself and Hanna and Ash thanks the two women for their help. Hanna tells them that it wasn't the best landing spot as the field is full of Tupilag which is what they call the walkers after an old Inuit myth. In mythology, Tupliag is a flesh-eating beast conjured up to take revenge on its enemy and if it can't find them, then Tupilag returns home to kill its maker. Eun notes that Carol and Ash are the first people that they've seen in years, and they thought that they were dreaming when they heard the plane. Ash explains that there's a crack in the fuel lines, meaning that it was more like a nightmare for them. Ash can fix it if he can find the right supplies and Eun is sure that they've got something that he'll be able to use. Reaching the top of a hill, Hanna points to a research station in the distance.
The two women lead Carol and Ash to the research station and show them the reindeer that they have cooking. Eun shows Ash to the storeroom to look for supplies while Hanna offers Carol a drink, although she refuses. Hanna explains that she and Eun came to the research station to do climate research for their PhDs, tracking glacier melt. It was only supposed to be for three months but, as Carol puts it, the world went to hell, and they got trapped there instead. However, Hanna doesn't think that the world went to hell. Instead, she suggests that the world is simply trying to heal itself to which Carol questions if the world healing itself involves killing everyone they love. "Weren't we already doing that to ourselves? Poisoning the Earth. One species, to serve its bottomless appetite, devours all the others. Tupilag is Mother Nature fighting back. Never screw with somebody's mother," declares Hanna. Ash returns, having found some speed tape which should work, and Hanna suggests that he go ahead while she'll come along in awhile with some food that Carol and Ash can take with them. Carol offers her help which Hanna accepts, and Carol decides to take her up on that drink.
Carol and Hanna share a drink together and Carol asks the other woman about the seasonings for her broth. With Carol's permission, Hanna loads Daryl's crossbow as she talks and puts it on the table. Growing nervous and sensing that something isn't right, Carol picks up a pen to use as a makeshift weapon. Hanna turns the crossbow on Carol who tells her that Carol's parents taught her to never point a weapon at anyone and Hanna reveals that she is supposed to kill Carol, but she doesn't want to. However, Hanna lost the coin toss and reveals that while Eun won, she doesn't intend to kill Ash.
Carol tries to talk the visibly terrified Hanna down with Hanna confirming that she doesn't want to kill Carol and she's not a killer. However, Eun told her to do it, and Carol dying is what Eun wants. Carol asks what Hanna wants, but Hanna doesn't know, so Carol urges her to think about it, knowing that Hanna must want something. Hanna finally admits that she wants to get out of this place as it's killing her. Carol suggests that Hanna can come with them, but the other woman accuses Carol of just saying that to save her life. However, Carol is offering Hanna an opportunity to save her own life, asking her how often planes land outside of this shit hole. Hanna knows that Eun will never leave and she can't leave Eun, but Carol recognizing the abusive situation and herself a survivor of abuse, urges the other woman to do what she wants to do, rather than what Eun wants her to do. "We go find Ash, we fix the plane, and we leave," states Carol.
Eun returns alone and demands to know what the delay is, and Hanna tells her that she's getting around to it. Carol demands to know where Ash is, and Eun states that Ash is at the plane and he's fine. Eun demands to know what Hanna is waiting for as the other woman continues to hesitate to murder Carol who asks if Hanna is really going to listen to Eun who clearly doesn't listen to Hanna in return. Stating that she's done her part, Eun orders Hanna to do hers, but Hanna continues to hesitate. Frustrated, Eun yells that either Hanna does what she tells her or Eun will do it herself. Eun raises her gun to kill Carol, but Hanna shoots Eun in the head with Daryl's Crossbow instead, killing her. Carol reassures Hanna that she had no choice, and promises that she and Ash will still take Hanna with them.
At night, Carol and Hanna walk through the foggy field back towards the plane with walkers wandering around nearby. Hanna tells Carol not to hesitate to shoot if something moves. Hanna notes that Ash seems kind, and Carol tells her that Ash has been through a lot, so Hanna states that Ash is lucky to have her. The two spot the plane and Hanna excitedly states that this is the first time in years that she's thought about the future and she'll finally get to use all of the French that she had learned in grade school. Suddenly, Ash -- who is chained to the plane's engine -- shoots Hanna in the neck with a flare gun, killing her. Carol comforts Ash who believes that Hanna was going to kill his friend, and Carol doesn't correct the assumption, simply telling Ash that she knows that he had to do it. Carol helps Ash to get free of the chain so that they can leave, leaving Hanna to reanimate.
