Harold Abernathy is a character first encountered in Issue 28 of Image Comics' The Walking Dead. He is a resident and a cage fighter of Woodbury.

At some point, Harold joined Woodbury, where began to work as a cage fighter.

The Best Defense

While the Governor is threatening Rick, Glenn, and Michonne, Harold faces Eugene Cooney in a gladiator-style cage mach. Harold wins the match, but knocks Eugene's teeth out in the process.

This Sorrowful Life

Harold arrives to the infirmary to have Dr. Stevens remove his bandages. Oblivious of the situation, he encourages Stevens and Rick to watch the match. Suddenly, Eugene storms into the room and furiously berates Harold for causing him a permanent injury by knocking his teeth out during their previous match. Despite Harold's apology, Eugene murders him by stabbing Harold in the neck.

It is unknown if his reanimated form was destroyed or kept by the Governor to add to his collection of decapitated heads.

While being patched up by Stevens in the infirmary, an angry Eugene storms in and stabs Harold in the neck.

Eugene Cooney

It is clear that Eugene and Harold were not friends, as proven when Eugene aggressively confronted Harold in Dr. Stevens' clinic after having his teeth knocked out by Harold. Their dialogue did not suggest any sort of friendship, and Eugene had no problem sticking a knife in Harold's throat as payback.

Dr. Stevens

Although Stevens vocally disapproved of Harold's cage fights, they nonetheless seemed to be on good terms. Stevens was shocked by Harold's sudden death at the hands of Eugene.

Rick Grimes

Due to his reasonable mistrust of Woodbury due to recent events, Rick didn't show any affection towards Harold, despite Harold being reasonably friendly to him. Nonetheless, Rick was shocked by Harold's demise.

  • He is the first member of Woodbury shown to die in the Comic Series.
  • Harold's last name and occupation were revealed in the novel, The Fall of the Governor.
  • He shares the same last name with another character from the Comic Series, thought it is unlikely that they are related.
