Hartwell (first name unknown) is an original character from The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct. He was a park ranger at the Smoky Mt. Campgrounds.
Almost nothing is known about Hartwell's life prior to or as the outbreak began, expect that he worked at the Smoky Mt. Campgrounds as a park ranger.
Ranger Hartwell was with the other survivors at the campgrounds when walkers attacked. When he went to his ranger station to gather some supplies he was bitten. He was on the CB with Elizabeth when he went to his office and died from his wounds. Elizabeth tries to radio Hartwell over the CB radio until Daryl Dixon arrives and informs her Hartwell was not there. After she cries for help, a zombified Hartwell breaks the door of his office and attacks Daryl. Daryl can choose to kill Hartwell or let him remain as a walker. His offroad truck is then taken by Daryl.
