Japan (Japanese: 日本) is a country located in Asia that is seen in The Walking Dead: All-Stars. It is an archipelago comprising of 6,852 islands with the five main large ones being: Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, Shikoku and Okinawa.
Much like the rest of the world, Japan collapsed around early-mid September 2010 as a result of the outbreak of the Wildfire virus but the way they attempted to handle the outbreak is unclear; from what is last heard, Tokyo was experiencing fires that ravaged the city and went uncontrolled due to the Tokyo Fire Department being overwhelmed and/or overrun, meanwhile it is presumed that Japanese people attempted to flee the archipelago towards either the Pacific Ocean or the Eurasian mainland. In the Comic Universe, Japan fell around July-August 2003 with police departments such Kyoto Police Department falling apart either during the onset or shortly thereafter the outbreak leaving few if any members still surviving. It is also presumed that in both universe, the archipelago is now claimed by various survivor groups and settlements.
Pre-Apocalypse[]
Much like its allies, the United States, South Korea and France, Japan was an economic and cultural powerhouse, with an estimated population of 128.1 million prior to the outbreak in 2010.

Fear The Walking Dead[]
Although it is unknown exactly what happened to Japan after the apocalypse, Valery Vashchenko states that the lights disappeared from the rest of the world, thus meaning it became overrun at some point during the outbreak. In "Mother", a news broadcast in Theodore Maddox's prison cell details that Tokyo was experiencing a large eruption of fires as the outbreak went underway, with firefighters struggling to contain the flames. In Radio Waves, a man talks about how he's going to travel to Tokyo after the death of his partner, in order to escape the apocalypse in the United States.
