Nothing is known about Jean-Luc's life prior to or as the outbreak began aside that he was married to Louise. He also had a brother who was living in Florida and whom he would visit with Louise every winter.

"Le Paradis Pour Toi"[]
Daryl, Carol, and Theo travel to Jean-Luc's house in order to find a working car. In his garage, Daryl uncovers Jean-Luc's car which is still in great condition and will serve well for their needs. After confirming that they're Americans, Jean-Luc tells Daryl and Carol that he likes America and his brother lives in Florida where Jean-Luc and his wife Louise go to visit them every winter. His memory clearly addled by age, Jean-Luc suggests a place for Daryl and Carol to stay in Florida and to put everything back by Monday as Jean-Luc must have the car to go to work. Theo explains that the old man forgets everything, even about the walkers, something that Theo wishes he could do too.
