Joel is a main character and survivor of the outbreak in The Walking Dead: No Man's Land.
Pre-Apocalypse[]

Almost nothing is known about Joel's past. In the games intro though, there is a torn picture of Joel in a suit, but it is not known if the picture was with friends, family or with colleagues from his past job. It is unknown, if Joel knew Ken and Ann prior to the outbreak, was in a group with them post-apocalypse or simply locked up with them.
Post-Apocalypse[]

Joel survived the first year of the apocalypse, before he discovered Terminus. He was locked up in a container along with Ken and Ann from Terminus.
No Man's Land[]
"Road To Terminus"[]
After a while, the container tipped over and opened. As they left their former prison, they realized that Terminus was destroyed and overrun. They picked up some weapons that were lying on the ground and fought their way out of Terminus. They then split up, but later regrouped, after a man saved Ken from a walker after he found an abandoned and overrun camp. He then stayed in the camp along with his fellow survivors. After a while, Daryl suggest going back to Terminus to save the other prisoners. After clearing out the walkers, Joel's group finds the only two survivors, a pregnant woman named Angie and another man.
