Um... I heard people are uh... attacking people, like out of nowhere. Going crazy, scratching, biting, I mean...
―Joel about what he heard about the outbreak.[src]

Joel is a character that appears in AMC's Tales of the Walking Dead. He is an employee at Circle of Trust Insurance Company.

Overview[]

Joel is a humble and hard-working man, along with being a loving father. He seems to be friendly and respectful towards his co-workers and is very unproblematic in the office, though sometimes he can be the butt of many jokes. He is a proud family man who tries his best to be there for his daughter whenever he can, though sometimes his long working hours prevent it. According to Gina, he arrives early at work on Mondays so he can leave early to go see his daughter play soccer.

Joel is initially the only worker at Circle of Trust Insurance Company who is properly paranoid about the outbreak. The others, specifically Blair, shrug it off and are more concerned about how it will get them more business. However, after Blair is forced to relive traumatic events in a time loop and witness the horrors of the outbreak, she sees that Joel is right and allows them to leave early. Joel is surprised but ecstatic about this and eagerly packs his things, calling his wife to inform her that he's heading home.

Pre-Apocalypse[]

Atlanta, Georgia[]

Nothing is known about Joel's life prior to or as the outbreak began, except that he worked at Circle of Trust Insurance Company along with his boss, Blair, and several colleagues Gina, Simon, and Jasmine. Joel also had a wife and daughter, Emily, who practiced soccer on Mondays, for which he would try to be present by sneaking out early of the office.

Season 1[]

"Blair / Gina"[]

Joel is working at Circle of Trust Insurance Company with his fellow colleagues. His boss, Blair, starts talking about how all the bad stuff currently going on in the world will make people panic and have more accidents and thus give them more business. While Simon and Jasmine suck-up to Blair, Joel voices his concerns, saying he heard about people going crazy and attacking people by scratching and biting them. Blair shrugs this off and instead makes a joke about something him and his wife did at last year's Christmas party. Joel watches in awe as the phones start ringing like crazy from nervous customers. Still, Blair believes everything is fine. Before she leaves with her fiancé, she tells Gina to stay at her desk until everyone leaves and make sure the backdoor is closed since it was open when she got there on Monday.

After Blair and Gina get blown up by an oil tanker, they experience a time loop and are back in the office as they were earlier. Blair starts coughing smoke mid-sentence, prompting her workers to ask if she's okay. When she says that someone else should make the coffee, Joel admits that it was him who made it. Joel wonders if she’s worried, and Blair tries to claim that she isn’t. Joel watches in confusion as Blair suggests that Gina has a shotgun under her desk, before checking.

In the next loop, they appear back in the office once again, this time with Gina screaming from being exploded. Joel and the other workers look at her in shock.

After yet another loop, Blair and Gina are back in the office, visibly traumatized. In the background, Joel states that something is off and the city isn't telling them anything. Joel watches as Gina loses it and blames Blair for their situation and calls her out for her narcissism. Gina then states that the reason the backdoor is always open on Mondays is because Joel goes to work early so he can leave early to watch his daughter play soccer. This causes a feud between them, and the proceed to kill each other many times, causing many time loops.

Eventually, the two get tired of fighting and are visibly disheveled. However, Joel and the others still don't understand what's going on. They watch in confusion as Gina breaks the vending machine to get snacks. Blair and Gina ignore their questions as the two have a conversation about the look of walkers. After Blair and Gina reconcile, Joel is seen on his phone, noticeably stressed, most likely checking the news about the outbreak. Blair then tells the workers to close up early, much to their shock. She admits that Joel is right about things being worse than they seem. Joel hastily starts packing his things and calls his wife saying that he's heading home. After Blair lets herself be bitten by a walker, another loop happens. Blair once again tells Joel and the workers that they can leave early.

It is unknown what happened to Joel after he left the building.
