Well, since there is no one there... before I go quiet again for maybe another year, I might as well tell you that I-- I did talk to someone. She wasn't just someone. She came to my door. Just showed up. I let her stay. And we fell-- we had feelings for each other. One day we allowed it. One day. I just thought I'd say that. 'Cause I supposed I would see it when I said it. And I did. And that was nice. There ain't been a lot of nice.
―John unknowingly to Morgan Jones about June.[src]

John Dorie is a main character and a survivor of the outbreak in AMC's Fear The Walking Dead. Before the outbreak, he was a police officer who retreated to a cabin to isolate himself from society after shooting a criminal. At some point, he met June (whom he nicknamed "Laura") and fell in love with her before she abandoned him.

Sometime later, John abandons his cabin in order to start his long journey of finding his loved one, eventually crossing paths with Morgan Jones. He is currently a member of Morgan's group.

Overview

He is described as "a man of fascinating contradictions". He loves people but has spent a great deal of time on his own. He's a gentle soul — an innocent in many ways — but is no stranger to violence. He can be soft-spoken and disarmingly funny all at once."[1]

John is shown to be calm, thoughtful and smart but has spent a period time alone during the apocalypse which has caused him to talk to himself at times.

Pre-Apocalypse

Nacogdoches, Texas

John was born in the late 1960's and grew up in Texas. As a child, his mother often used the term "badinage" during conversations, and his grandfather worked in a delicatessen who used the phrase "ugly mustard", besides this little is known regarding that of his early life.

As a young adult, John became employed as a police officer where he trained to become an exceptional gunslinger. On the weekends, he worked at Humbug's Gulch, a rodeo club, where he taught several children in trick shooting, lasso hooping, and even put on several wild-west performances. He once had an alcoholic colleague who survived a close encounter with a suspect who managed to steal a garbage truck and crushed his patrol vehicle. From this incident, John witnessed the effect of how negative experiences could change an individual.

One night after presenting one of his shows, John witnessed an armed criminal attempting to rob a gas station. John intervened and asked him to lower his weapon, although the criminal refused. John attempted to cripple him, but unintentionally shot him in the leg which caused him to bleed out to death. This incident made the citizens regard him as a "hero", John however felt guilty for his actions and thus retreated to a cabin where he vowed to never use a firearm again and isolated himself from society.

Post-Apocalypse

Season 4

"What's Your Story?"

John is reading a book by a campfire. After hearing a noise and believing it to be a person, he starts talking about himself and he asks they to join him. When its revealed to be an approaching walker, he shoots it, only to see a man standing behind it: It's Morgan Jones. "So, what's your story?" John asks Morgan with a friendly smile.

The man introduces himself as John Dorie and tells Morgan to come sit with him, offering him some food. Morgan declines the offer and stays at a distance. He tells John that he ran from "Back East." John asks him if he met a woman that had a pistol identical to his.

As Morgan begins to leave, John insists that he stay there for the night, safe at least until morning, and he reluctantly accepts.

In the middle of the night, while John is sleeping, Morgan gets out of the truck and begins walking again. He comes across an abandoned camp site and starts to get into a tent, just before he gets hit in the back of the head and knocked unconscious.

Morgan wakes up to find a couple of thugs, Leland and Bill , holding him at gunpoint while going through his bag. John shows up and shoots at Leland but surrenders when Leland's crew surrounds and takes him captive as well.

Suddenly, Althea drives up in a SWAT vehicle to the scene and offers Leland a case of ramen and cigarettes in exchange for the prisoners. When Leland refuses, she pulls a lever to reveal the vehicle is rigged with machine guns.

Afterwards, Althea drives with Morgan and John in the back of the vehicle. She tells them that they owe her for saving their lives. She stops at a trailer park and gets out a video camera, explaining to them that she's a journalist and wants to get their stories on record.

The next day, Althea interviews John on camera and learns about his mission to find his girlfriend, Laura, who he met after the fall. She turns the camera on Morgan. He brushes her off and leaves them.

Before he leaves, John runs after Morgan to gives him fresh socks, when suddenly they spot one of Leland's cars parked nearby.

Leland's crew surrounds Morgan, John and Althea. Leland demands the keys to Althea's truck. Morgan and John fight off their captors.

John opens the door to an abandoned trailer. A herd of infected streams out.

Althea sprints to the truck. Leland slams the door in her face and tells her the keys didn't work. She reveals that they were the wrong keys. Before he can attack her, John shoots Leland. Althea escapes as Leland gets devoured by infected, then guns down the infected with the SWAT machine gun.

After the fight is over, Morgan, John and Althea get back on the road. John notices a white flag with the number 51 spray-painted on it lying in the back of the truck. It's the same flag that was flying back at the trailer park. Althea says the flags have been popping up all around over the last few weeks, marking something, but she isn't sure exactly what they're for because no one has been alive for her to ask. Althea points out that Morgan still owes her an interview.

Althea interviews Morgan on the side of the road. Morgan reveals that he came from Atlanta and used to belong to several settlements. He explains that his people battled a large group and won. When Althea asks why he left his group, Morgan gets up to go. Althea demands an answer. "I lose people and then I lose myself," he says, then walks off.

Morgan hobbles down the road. He recognizes an abandoned car, then sees an infected man walking up ahead. He starts to walk after the man but trips while trying to escape two infected. John shows up and stabs the infected.

John helps Morgan catch up to the infected man. Morgan sees that it is the wounded man who he tried to help earlier. He kills the man and then buries him in the woods as Althea and John watch from afar.

Back in the truck, Morgan insists that he is only traveling with John and Althea until his leg heals. John explains that they are setting out to find Laura and in exchange for the help, he'll tell Althea more of his story.

Althea sees a woman crawling on the road. She pulls over and walks up to help the woman: It's Alicia, alive and well, and clearly hardened by survival. Suddenly, Alicia points a sharp weapon at Althea's neck. Nick, Strand, and Luciana emerge from the bushes and hold John, Morgan, and Althea at gunpoint.

"Another Day in the Diamond"

John, Althea and Morgan are held at gunpoint by Alicia, Strand, Luciana, and Nick. Alicia asks Althea if they are their enemies, and Strand names their foes as the Vultures. Morgan insists that they are not their enemies, and Alicia asks Althea about the flag in the back of her truck. Althea says that she found it, and Alicia tells her to take them to its original location.

"Good Out Here"

John, Althea and Morgan are held prisoner in the SWAT truck by Nick and his group. Al reveals that she only gave them partial directions to the location with the numbered flag. She agrees to provide the rest of the directions on the condition that they tell her their stories. She escapes from her bonds and attacks Nick, causing him to jostle Luciana in the driver's seat. Luciana swerves off the road and crashes. The noise attracts a herd of infected towards the truck.

John and Althea unsuccessfully try to extract the SWAT truck from the mud. Luciana offers to locate a tow truck but demands that she, Alicia, Nick and Strand, who are all now captives, be released. Althea cuts their bonds but holds Nick hostage. Morgan offers to stay with Nick while John and the others find the tow truck. Luciana leads the group to a service station and points to a truck with wire cable. John and Alicia poke around for supplies.

John and the group returns to the SWAT truck and finds it swarming with infected. John spots an arrow left by Morgan to indicate the direction that he and Nick went and he wants to find Morgan, but Althea refuses to leave. John replies "It's just a van, Al!", but she says she has stuff in her van. Alicia offers to help tow the truck while John and Luciana look for Morgan and Nick. While looking for them, Luciana tells John that she once left Nick, even though she loved him. They find Nick and Morgan and catch up with Alicia's group.

After Nick is shot by Charlie, John, Morgan and Althea can only stand by and watch as Nick dies of his wounds.

"Buried"

Following the death of Nick Clark, John drives Al's SWAT van and tries to convince Morgan to join in his search for Laura. John recounts some of his experiences as a police officer as Nick's grief-stricken friends share their story with Al.

After being directed to stop, John is shocked to discover that the group has instead led them to a weapons cache and realizes that the group used them. John attempts to convince Al to abandon the group, but they are able to convince Al to help them. Before they do anything else, they bury Nick under a nearby tree.

As Alicia's group loads up the SWAT van, John is shocked to recognize one of the items, a backpack, as belonging to Laura. Inside the backpack, John finds Laura's identical gun. The group identifies the backpack and gun as belonging to a survivor named Naomi who was a member of the Dell Diamond Baseball Stadium community. John realizes that Naomi and Laura are one and the same, never having known Laura's real name. To his grief, John is told that Naomi died when the stadium fell. John chooses to remain behind as Al takes Alicia and her friends after the Vultures and is joined by Morgan. Al drives off, but promises to return for the two later.

"Laura"

John cleans a pair of matching pistols on the porch of a creek side cabin. He sees an infected coming down the creek and, leaving the gun, kills it with an ax. John wakes up and starts his day, brushing his teeth, making his bed, playing Scrabble against himself. He finishes the day watching TV and eating popcorn.

John hears sloshing in the creek and finds a woman lying unconscious in the water: It's Naomi. John lays Naomi on his bed and discovers a deep gash on her stomach. He dresses her wound and sleeps on the couch while she sleeps on his bed.

In the morning, John finds the cabin empty. He goes outside and catches Naomi searching his Jeep for keys. John tells her where to find the keys but warns that the car needs a new battery. He suggests she at least takes some food, water and first aid supplies before leaving.

Naomi gives John instructions on how to stitch her wound. She grimaces as John pierces her skin with a needle. John serves fish stew for dinner and asks if he can call her Laura because she refuses to tell him her name. He welcomes her to stay as long as she'd like. Naomi insists she will leave as soon as she is better.

John mounts a curtain around the bed to give Naomi privacy. Naomi wakes up in the middle of the night and sees John cleaning his pistols.

John kills two infected in the creek and decides to investigate the source of the infected. He mentions to Naomi that he is also going on a supply run. Naomi insists on joining him. He offers her boots to protect herself from snakes, but she refuses to wear shoes that might impede her ability to run.

John and Naomi row the canoe upriver. Naomi inquires about John's past. He informs her that he was a police officer. John and Naomi reach a bridge and notice a breached guardrail. They quickly deduce that infected have been falling through the gap and floating downriver.

John and Naomi stop at a general store for supplies. Naomi lays out first aid supplies for anyone else who visits the store. John and Naomi use corrugated metal from a gas station to mend the guardrail. Naomi lies in bed while John watches a movie. She joins him on the couch. John offers to make some brittle.

Naomi watches John sleep during the movie. He wakes up and stares at her. She reveals that she lost her child. John gets ready to fish in the creek. Naomi asks him to teach her how to fish. John gives Naomi a fishing lesson and shows her how to gut the fish. They eat fish for dinner. Naomi thanks John for teaching her.

John and Naomi play Scrabble and fish over the ensuing days. John removes Naomi's stitches. Naomi announces that she's ready to leave, now that her wounds have healed. John goes outside to kill an infected and realizes that their patch on the bridge isn't working. Naomi offers to help John fix the bridge by blocking the gap with the Jeep.

John and Naomi sit in the Jeep on the bridge. Naomi says she learned how to hot-wire cars from a woman that she met in a camp. John sees one of his pistols hidden behind Naomi's back and snatches it. Naomi argues that they need the gun for protection, but John sternly refuses to use firearms.

John and Naomi kill all the infected on the bridge then drive the Jeep in front of the gap. An infected attacks John in the driver's seat. Naomi screams at him to use his gun. John refuses to shoot and, after a near-deadly struggle, stabs the infected instead.

Back at the cabin, Naomi points out that John almost died because of his refusal to use guns. John explains that when he was a cop, he fatally shot a robber in the leg. He says that he moved to a new town after everyone started calling him a hero.

The walkers surround the Jeep on the bridge, jostling the infected corpse inside and knocking the Jeep into neutral. Infected fall off the bridge into the river.

John and Naomi hear infected piling up in the creek. They go outside and begin slaying the infected. Naomi becomes overrun by infected. John gets his guns and saves her life by sharpshooting the infected.

Naomi thanks John and calls him an honorable person. John gives her a pistol to take with her on the road. Naomi joins John on the couch to watch a movie. John moves outside. She asks why he's avoiding her. "I love you," he says and asks her not to leave. They kiss. John wakes up the next morning and finds Naomi gone. He sees a message written with Scrabble tiles: "I love you too I'm sorry."

In the present, John looks at the Scrabble tiles in a small box. Morgan sits beside John and assures him that Naomi loved him. He reminds John that they are part of the world and should not waste any more time. John holsters Naomi's pistol and walks down the road with Morgan.

"Just in Case"

John and Morgan corner Edgar outside a convenience store and threaten to shoot him unless he cooperates. John blasts Edgar's finger off when Edgar tries to bolt.

John searches Edgar's pockets and finds a map to the Vultures' next meeting spot. He shows Naomi's gun to Edgar and demands to know what happened to the gun's owner. Edgar insists he joined up with the Vultures after they left the stadium. Morgan tells Edgar to warn the Vultures that some people are planning to ambush them at the meeting spot. Edgar runs off.

John hands over his guns, thinking it's best for Morgan to hold them. John wants to find the men and learn more about how Naomi died.

John and Morgan catch up to Alicia's group and get out of the van. Alicia's group forces them to their knees. John asks Althea for help, but she simply spectates. Morgan explains that they warned the Vultures to stay away. A moment later, Mel and his Vultures arrive in their vehicles and face off with Alicia's group. Morgan attempts to dissuade both groups from killing each other, but they refuses to listen. On Mel's walkie, a woman asks where everyone is.

A Land Rover pulls up, and Naomi steps out, alive and well. John is shocked to see her and walks toward her. Alicia reacts angrily towards Naomi being alive and part of the Vultures and attempts to shoot Naomi, but accidentally hits John stepping in the way. He falls to the ground. Naomi rushes to him, and kneels beside him.

"The Wrong Side of Where You Are Now"

John lies unconscious as Naomi tries to help him. Alicia corners Naomi and John at gunpoint. Althea rides up in the SWAT vehicle and aims her guns at Alicia, forcing her to lower her weapon. Morgan helps Naomi carry John inside the vehicle and urges Charlie to board if she wants to live, they all escape as Alicia's group open fire at them.

"No One's Gone"

An injured John lies in the SWAT vehicle as he has Charlie record goodbye messages to both Naomi and Morgan if he doesn't make it. After the door falls off due to Luciana shooting an RPG at the vehicle, Alicia takes Althea and Charlie hostage, having Althea falsely claim it's safe to go out so that Strand and Luciana can shoot Naomi when she comes into the clear. John, however, prevents this by activating Althea's walkie-talkie, allowing Morgan and Naomi to be warned that they are about to walk out into a trap when they hear Alicia's voice. June is able to safely bring medical supplies to John after Morgan manages to talk Alicia out of trying to kill Naomi to avenge Madison.

As John is recovering, he talks to Naomi, who tells John that her real name is June. Finally, John and the rest of the group, who have made peace with each other, are out in an empty field, where Alicia, Victor, and Luciana reveal the fate of Madison. It is told that while the stadium falls, Madison leads the majority of the walkers into the stadium before setting them on fire with a flare, as they are all covered in oil. As the three finish recounting their story, John and the others begin to eat Kimchi.

"People Like Us"

A month later, John and Morgan discuss a trip to Virginia with Morgan wanting to return there and declaring he should not have left and wants John to join him. John tells him he should take that trip if he believes in it, but he can't join the trip because of his health and recovering from his bullet wound. John will instead go back to his cabin with June, but Morgan declares his mind is made up and he will leave tomorrow. Morgan hopes John will change his mind and he is confident they can make it back. John, however, has everything he needs.

Later, June is patching up John, saying he will be able to fish again soon. A hesitant June asks John if he's sure about returning to his cabin, to which he insists its safe. They are interrupted when they notice Althea saving Charlie from a river walker. On the bus, John hand-makes a game of Scrabble for Charlie to get her out of her shell. He recalls how he didn't use to talk either due to of a bad thing he did, but it all changed when he found someone to talk to. He briefly leaves to kill a walker outside and Charlie uses the opportunity to escape.

Later, John visits Strand at the mansion to ask for help in finding Charlie, and he claims he is owed because he was shot on behalf of the people at this house. Strand reluctantly agrees to, and they both drive off to search for her.

The storm has begun. John and Strand are searching for Charlie. As Strand drinks in the passenger seat, John tells him he used to be a cop. "I used to be a millionaire", Strand replies. John wants a better plan for them, though. He invites Strand to the cabin, but he is sorting out the rest.

"The Code"

While Morgan is on a bridge heading back to Texas to find the others, he hears John's voice saying to visit and say goodbye, remembering his last encounter with him before he was heading back to Virginia.

"Weak"

John is seen on Althea's tapes and June radios him to thank him for the kind words he said on the tape.

"Blackjack"

Somehow after the storm, John and Strand are marooned on a small island. Strand grabs a book inside a cabin while John chops wood outside to make a raft so they can get to the other side and find June and Charlie. He is forced to put down a walker, still recovering from his bullet wound. He and Strand realize a bird has been attracting the dead with its noise.

Later on, John finishes his makeshift raft as Strand watches him struggle to keep it afloat. Suddenly, an alligator swims toward them and John shoots at it, causing it to swim away.

John spots a walker walk into the river only to get mauled by the gator. Strand walks up and tells John his efforts to find June are useless but John tells him they'll get off the island if they try hard enough. As John walks around, while thinking of a plan, he notices an overturned pick-up truck at the top of a hill.

John shows the overturned pick-up truck to Stand, who climbs on it and wrestles with a walker for a bottle of scotch. The movement causes the truck to roll down the hill, which impales the walkers with a branch while Strand miraculously survives. John scolds him for his decision, but Strand ignores him and walks off.

John decides to tear apart the truck to makeshift a boat. After he finishes, he confronts Strand on his drinking, who tells him he drinks to forget. He laments that he only has things to look back on compared to John, who has something to look forward to. John tells him he can drink with him on the boat, which is even outfitted with a truck horn. Impressed, Strand finally agrees to come with him. John uses the truck horn to lure a walker into the water, so the gator can devour it and give them time to escape.

John and Strand paddle halfway down the river until the radio horn cuts out. The walkers roam away as their boat gets attacked by the gator and quickly fills with water. Strand fires his gun to distract the walkers while they sadly swim back to the island. Strand takes a swig from his bottle and holes up in the cabin while John eats one of his candies.

"I Lose People..."

On the island, John and Strand notice Alicia and Charlie waving at them from across the pond and regain their hope of getting rescued.

After a while, John and Strand hear a vehicle nearby and discover it's the SWAT truck. Alicia plows it through the lake to rescue them as the two men take a swig from their bottle in celebration. Charlie returns John's hat and he commends her for talking again. Strand notices Martha zip-tied in the back and asks who she is.

In the SWAT truck, John radios Morgan to give him the all-clear on speaking freely on the walkies and June responds immediately. They're both elated to talk to one another. June gives him her location and he says they’re on their way.

After reuniting with the rest of the group, John and the others contact Morgan on the radio, telling him they're going to save him. Morgan looks down and sees their plan: a fire truck.

Morgan tosses his stick down and gingerly begins climbing down the building. He makes it and is immediately attacked by a walker. John skillfully shoots the walker from below and Morgan successfully jumps onto the firetruck's crane.

As the group gets surrounded by walkers, Jim decides to sacrifice himself to save them. Before he does, he radios Sarah the recipe for his beer. She writes it down, Jim takes a deep breath, and throws himself off the ledge and onto a car, attracting the walkers away from the fire truck.

On the road, Sarah decides they should name the beer "Jimbo's Beerbos" in his memory. Morgan proposes they find Althea and then travel to Alexandria together.

"... I Lose Myself"

After the group finds Al, John and June tell her they found her alone in the street with a tape from Martha. In the video, Martha tells Morgan that she's disappointed in him and vows to make him strong.

At night, the group sits around a campfire and Morgan describes his plan to pick up more boxes at the truck stop to distribute them en route to Alexandria. Later, John confronts Morgan about still wanting to save Martha and tells him to move on, "I understand her... I used to be her", Morgan counters before handing John a map to Alexandria and promising to meet them there.

John uses fish as a metaphor, explaining that sometimes he feels its best to leave them be even when he sees something coming to harm them. He declares Morgan might be the fish in this situation. He also tells Morgan they will wait for him at the truck stop and come looking for him after two days.

The next day, the group arrives at the truck stop and stocks up on supplies from the store. John and June have a conversation, where June confesses to John she was worried he would be disappointed in learning she was a different person than he thought, but he assures her she’s everything he thought and kisses her.

Outside, Althea loads the van when some walkers approach. Al jumps down to fight them, but is too weak and passes out. Alicia shoots at the herd and then instructs everyone to get inside as the noise will attract more.

Inside, John tries to contact Morgan to no avail. Sarah explains that Morgan's signal won't come in here until he is closer but Morgan likely hears him. Suddenly, everyone doubles over in pain as more walkers scrape at the windows. June realizes that someone opened the water bottles in the store and poisoned the water. Althea deduces it was Martha.

Finally able to communicate, Morgan tells them it's anti-freeze. June tells them the antidote is ethanol and the group hatches a plan to get it from one of the trucks outside.

June and Charlie create a distraction while John and the rest kill the walkers and push forward. Althea jumps in her SWAT truck and machine guns the walkers outside, while accidentally putting holes into the tank and causing the ethanol to drain out.

June updates Morgan on their problem and he tells them he can't lose them. John encourages him and says he's strong with or without them.

Suddenly, Morgan shows up and reveals that he brought a truck of Jim's Augie's Ale, saving the day. The group drinks the beer and suddenly regain their strength. John jokingly warns Charlie that this is the last time she drinks a beer until she is 21.

Morgan then brings John and the group back to the place he left Martha. He finds her severed arm attached to the police car and sees her turned, walking on the road. He stabs her in the head and then buries her.

Morgan tells everyone he's no longer going to Alexandria. He says that Martha became the person she was because nobody helped her when she needed it and that more people need help.

The group arrives at Clayton's supply factory and Morgan says they should follow his path and help others. Alicia says it can't just be about boxes, they need to build something like Madison would want. Althea suggests they can start with the people she interviewed.

Shortly after, John and the group mobilizes a convoy of vehicles outside the factory. They load up on ammo and head out. Morgan gets on his walkie and broadcasts that they are coming to help anyone who might be in need.

Season 5

Four months after using the denim factory as a headquarters to distribute the supply boxes, John and the group have had poor luck in finding or recruiting other survivors, with many of the people interviewed on Althea's tapes dead or missing.

"Here to Help"

John and the group flies on a plane after hearing a message on radio from someone named Logan. However, the plane crashes in the middle of the woods on an unknown territory. Inside the plane, John helps Morgan kill some walkers and leaves to find June.

From outside the overturned cockpit, John shoots at the walkers crawling at the windows and frees June. He then goes outside with Althea to grab hacksaws, which they use to cut Luciana free. They place her on a stretcher and Althea hands Alicia her weapon.

Alicia takes the lead but a truck rushes in with Annie driving. Max says it's their sister so they all pack in the van and leave. On the road, Annie says walkers are the least of their problems. "You have no idea where you landed, do you?" She asks them mysteriously and says she stays away from this area but got stuck there recently. Morgan says they're trying to help a man they met on the radio named Logan, who claims his place got surrounded. Annie stops the van and says the place is worse than it seems.

They arrive at a gate comprised of walkers chained together with their own intestines. The tree above them has walker heads hanging from the branches. Annie says they're all over the area and she refuses to drive through. Morgan says they'll walk and Annie reminds him he doesn't even know this guy, but Morgan still wants to try. Annie warns he better be worth it as Alicia cuts down the fence and they ride on through.

Later, the group arrives at a truck stop to look for Logan but find the place empty. They carry Luciana inside as John and Althea inspect the place. Morgan tries to reach Logan on the radio to no avail. Alicia reports that no one's here and that something must be up. Annie gets spooked and tells her brothers they need to leave now. Alicia tries to calm them down but Max points his rifle at her and warns them to leave soon. The kids leave as June pulls the pole out of Luciana's shoulder.

A while later, Morgan gets a radio call from Logan. He says he is the "L" in "C&L" which is the logo on all of the trucking equipment. He admits he never shared Clayton's world view and he made them fly to the furthest truck stop he knew of so they could take over without a fight. Alicia reminds him they crashed a plane to help him and Logan says he is just trying to reclaim what's his instead of hurting them. He cuts off communication and walks away.

That night, John tells June he's optimistic about the future, claiming they have all the luck in the world. She says he helped her when she thought no one could, so they might be able to help people in the future.

"The Hurt That Will Happen"

John, Morgan, and Alicia return to the crash site to discover all their weapons and supplies are missing. Morgan finds a sign that someone took Althea and their equipment. The three of them split up and search for her, with John going back to the truck stop. He arrives to tell June and Luciana that Morgan and Alicia headed north and they should head south, while Luciana should stay at the station. He gives her one of his revolvers for protection.

In the woods, John radios Morgan and Alicia to tell them that their truck broke down. Alicia warns him of the radioactive walkers that he can't kill without risking their own health. A while later, John and June follow a sign to a nearby camp to find the kids. They arrive to find cabins full of walkers and several bullets caskets on the ground.

That night, John radios the others and the group meets up in the campsite, where Grace inspects the walkers in the cabins and confirms they were exposed to the radiation. He then accompanies June as she inspects a car to ride back to the truck stop, when they get a radio call from Luciana who tells them they are getting a plane from Strand and that the long-range antenna was taken out by the wind. June then orders her to go back inside as the communication cuts off.

Afterward, John listens as Morgan tells Grace they'll help her find the rest of her friends but she declines, revealing that she has been exposed to the radiation and has limited time to live and does not want to risk anyone else's lives. Morgan reminds her they'll always be on the other side of the walkie if she needs them and Grace requests they contact her if they find any more of her people.

At the truck stop, John and the group arrives and awakens Luciana, who is still drugged and scared that the dead are waiting. Outside, they find the heads hanging from a billboard.

"Humbug's Gulch"

John and the group kill several walkers barriers on different roadblocks in an attempt to find Althea as they cross off circles on a map, forming a perimeter.

On the road, John and June drive out of walkie range and find another walker roadblock. They approach it and immediately come under fire, forcing them to retreat in their van and drive through the barrier. They arrive at a ranch called Humbug's Gulch, which John says it's similar to his old stomping grounds and claims they can find guns there. They make their way inside one of the buildings and find a locker full of guns and ammunition.

Afterward, they go outside in the middle of a windstorm so they can return to the van. Suddenly, a stranger approaches and starts shooting at them, causing them to retreat. He shoots at one of the tires but John clips the stranger with his gun. He runs over to find him and is held at gunpoint by Dwight"Where is she?!" Dwight demands but is knocked out by June from behind. They carry him inside the building, where they tie him up.

John rummages his stuff, finding maps from other states and notes from Sherry. Dwight wakes up and yells for John to put down Sherry's notes. John tells him they just want to help him, but he insists no one can help him. John asks about the walker blockades but doesn't get an answer.

Later, John and June barricade the doors with furniture and decide to head to the roof and get out of the town on foot. Dwight offers them his car but they insist he will come with them. He finally reveals that his name is Dwight and tells them about his mission to find his wife. They shake hands as John introduces himself and June. Dwight laughs at their names and John finally unties him.

The walkers break into the bar as they escape out the second-floor window. However, Dwight jumps from the roof, forcing them to follow him. He reveals to John that he calls the dead "walkers" and they make an effort to get away. They start making their way to the car but Dwight goes the other way and makes a break for their van. He radios John and June to explain how Sherry has been leaving him messages for him in her travels and how he thought he'd find the next one in the car, but there isn’t one. "I've been looking for Sherry for, I don't know, at least a year," he says. June ultimately tells Dwight they found the van without anyone alive in it but offers hope that Sherry could be alive.

Dwight explains that he doesn't deserve to find Sherry. "I'm never going to find her," he bemoans as he cocks his gun. June tries talking him out of killing himself, saying Sherry is still out there and that he can't do this to her. Dwight lays down his gun and sobs, telling them he can't get back to them. John says to leave that up to them.

John shoots most of the walkers, leaving Dwight a path to finally escape. He barely makes it out before being tackled by a walker. On the ground, John tells him to raise his axe, and John shoots it, causing the bullets to split and kill two walkers at once. That night, John explains to Dwight that the number from the car doesn't match the registration, meaning Sherry could still be out there. He then thanks June for talking Dwight off the ledge and confesses it made him reconsider how he was showing his love for her. They hug and kiss.

Suddenly, Morgan, Alicia, and Luciana arrive at the town. Dwight walks up and calls out to Morgan. John and the group are shocked that they know each other. Dwight explains his mission and tries apologizing for what happened with the Saviors, but Morgan assures him they can talk later. "We're trying to start over," he explains. Alicia asks Dwight about the walker barricades, so Dwight takes them to one.

On a roadblock, John and the group are about to take it down when Max radios her and says they're headed to the truck stop. On the way, they find a van stalled on the road. Inside, they find a bloody Dylan crying in the backseat. Alicia tries calming him and asks where Max and Annie are, but he won't answer.

"The Little Prince"

John and the group arrive at the truck stop with several parts of their plane. He then listens as Morgan makes a plea to the kids for them to stay together and to help them re-assemble the plane so they can leave the area together. "We can because we've done the impossible before," he says. Luciana reveals they will fly across the mountains together. Dylan steps up and agrees.

A while later, John and Dwight get ready to go out and keep searching for Sherry. He tells June they will be back soon and kisses her. John then listens as June also tells Dwight that he keep him out of trouble.

On the road, Dwight is getting frustrated with the search for Sherry. John is optimistic having found June. He asks how they got split up. "We got split up before we got split up," Dwight says. John shows Dwight the Scrabble pieces which June used to tell him she loved him. Dwight tells John he hopes the apocalypse never ruins his optimism, but John says the apocalypse actually made him better.

John and Dwight then search in a bar where a man is dead. Dwight explains that Sherry gave up her ring and everything to save him. "The only reason I'm still alive is because of her," he says. Dwight explains that the person that sent him away empathized with him loving his wife enough not to kill him. He says he needs some of John's luck. Suddenly, John finds a restaurant receipt with the word "honey" on it. John grabs a pencil and traces the paper, revealing a message from Sherry. "I've been looking on the wrong road this whole time," Dwight says in awe.

After arriving at a large house, Dwight finds the car identified on the registration he found from Sherry. He scouts the house while John finds a note from Sherry in the glove compartment. In it, she tells Dwight to stop looking for her because she couldn't take it if he died trying to do so and she will always love him. John folds up the note and stares through the windshield, unsure of what to do with it.

Dwight exits the house excitedly telling John he found supplies inside so Sherry must have been there and claims he's optimistic. He asks John if he found something in the car and John lies, saying he didn't. Dwight says it doesn't matter since he feels he's getting closer to finding Sherry, while also thanking him for giving him hope.

"Still Standing"

John and Dwight are searching on the road when June contacts him on the radio and warns the reactor will soon meltdown and he needs to rush. John is ready to head back and Dwight insists on staying behind on his own. This almost prompts John to tell Dwight about the letter he found but Dwight's sense of hope convinces him to stay.

A while later, John's unable to hot-wire a car as he and Dwight continue their search. John finally decides to tell Dwight about the letter he found. He gives him Sherry's letter and apologizes as Dwight gets out of the truck.

At night, John apologizes again to Dwight for hiding Sherry's letter. Dwight admits he understands why he did it and says he doesn't want to give up despite Sherry's request. John agrees and Dwight promises to get him back to June.

"Is Anybody Out There?"

In a flashback, John and the group takes turns on the radio trying to reach out to strangers who might need help, to no avail. In the present, he and Dwight desperately search for a car in an abandoned parking space. He then manages to hot wire a car and they leave. A while later, the car stalls out which Dwight suggests is due to the gas going bad. June radios John and vows to come get him but he tells her not to and makes her promise to get on the plane whether he makes it back or not. He confesses his love for her and tells her she's his reason to live and he wants her to have a reason to live, too.

John suddenly spots another message from Sherry on a tree and realizes that Sherry might've left Dwight more than her messages and asks him how far he thinks Sherry's car is.

Sometime later, John and Dwight drive their way past the walkers in Sherry's van as the group makes a run for the plane. Everyone makes it on the plane safely as a wall of smoke from the reactor fills the runway. Strand and Al steer through it and make it into the open air.

In the air, June tells John she didn't want to leave and he comforts her. John then tells June he worried he would never talk to her again and doesn't want to waste another moment. He fashions a candy wrapper into a ring, gets down on one knee, and proposes. She gleefully says yes and the two kiss. That night, the plane roars toward the dark runway as Wendell fixes the lights at the last second, allowing the plane to finally land.

John happily reunites with the rest of the group and meets Daniel. Suddenly, a woman contacts Morgan on the radio, asking if that was his plane flying overhead. She's seen his boxes and wants his help. The communication cuts out as Logan interrupts the signal and says they need to chat. He pulls up in an old truck as everyone focuses their guns on him.

Logan tells John and the group the gasoline is going bad and that Clayton wrote down an oil rig location. He says if they hand over his journal he'll help them find it. They're skeptical, but he makes the case they won't be able to help anyone without it and suggests they should find it first before his former crew.

"Channel 4"

Sometime later, John and the group formed a convoy to travel throughout Texas to help others and invite them to join their community, while establishing additional outposts to recruit the survivors reaching out to them over the radio.

In an interview by Althea, John explains the that the group is rich because they have skills they employ to help need in need and that makes them better than other people.

John then accompanies Morgan to a house to help someone named Tess. She tells them she's waiting for her husband to return with her son's asthma medication but won't come outside because of the landmines. Morgan tells Tess they're recording the experience so they can prove to future survivors that they're legit. Tess explains she hasn't left the house since the onset of the apocalypse and Morgan promises to stay there until her husband returns.

John tells Althea that it makes sense Morgan is so dedicated to this mother/son scenario due to his loses. He also mentions that he and Morgan have each other's backs. As time passes, more walkers break through the fence and get immediately blown up by the landmines. June then radios John and the group to reveal that Tess' husband died. When Morgan hears the son cry out from the house, he sprints through the yard to get him. However, Althea tells him to freeze inches away from the porch after spotting a landmine next to his foot. John and Luciana join him as Alicia, Strand, and June arrive with the inhaler.

John watches as Morgan radios Tess that they have the inhaler but she has to come outside to get it. He then breaks the news that her husband is dead and she needs to come get the medicine. She tearfully asserts her husband is still out there. Al instructs Morgan on how to navigate the mine he's standing on. John hands Morgan a screwdriver to dig around it and get to the fuse.

Morgan prepares to pull the firing pin until Tess radios them to stop. She finally emerges from her house and admits her husband isn't coming back. She hands him a clothespin to use as Morgan tells Althea and the others to back up. He successfully takes his foot off of the mine and once out of range, it explodes. Morgan returns to give Tess and her son the inhaler. John and the group then confess they are proud that the woman stepped out for the first time in two years to help them and they were there to help her.

That night, John and the caravan dine together. Al then asks the group what each want, with John wanting to make the world a better place. The tape concludes with everyone pleading with future survivors to help others.

"Ner Tamid"

John and the convoy set up camp in a field to rest for the night. The next day, Sarah admits they're running low on gas so June suggests they go on a supply mission to find more. John and June then debate what to do about Logan searching for them when Dwight informs the group Charlie's missing.

After a while, Charlie radios June to tell her she ran away because she was tired of the constant moving. She reveals where she is and asks her to bring car batteries. Sometime later, John and June arrive with the battery and Jacob thanks them for keeping the eternal flame lit. Charlie asks them to help Jacob repair his fence and they agree. John offers Jacob a caramel candy and Jacob gifts him a yarmulke.

John and June then tell Charlie it's time to go to the camp as she suggests Jacob the group could live there with him. Suddenly, Sarah radios them about Logan's crew and June says they're on their way. They head outside to find all the walkers from the locked-up building surrounding them. Jacob takes them to the roof and explains he and his congregants were holed up in the temple at the onset of the apocalypse. He explains that he left to gather supplies and when he came back, everyone was dead.

John and June climb down and use a ladder to create a bridge in between cars to avoid the walkers. As they make their final ladder bridge the gate gives way and they get trapped on top of a car. June tells Charlie there's only one way out of this but Charlie refuses to give the place up. However, she talks with Jacob and finally relents, making him use a horn and lure the walkers into the temple. John and June lock the doors as Jacob and Charlie escape out the back.

John and the group then drive to Dwight and Sarah's location in Al's SWAT truck and save them from having to confront Logan's crew. Later, Charlie apologizes for running away but June says the perfect place is still out there. Jacob says that's called faith and that he'll start looking around for what he wants. John then talks with Dwight about Logan's crew.

"Leave What You Don't"

John and June drive towards Tank Town to confront Logan and his crew. On the road, they are contacted by Alicia, who tells them that someone might need help, but they're forced to continue onto the oil rigs. Once they arrive, they position themselves on a hill. John shoots at the walker carousel from afar and radios Logan that he better not try anything, but Logan calls John's bluff and says he knows they don't have the guts to kill him.

At night, John picks off incoming walkers but some manage to fall off the cliff and crawl, causing a fire. He and June provide cover fire for their companions when Jacob, Annie, and Tess arrive to help. Later, John and the rest help kill the remaining walkers and control the fire.

The next morning, John and the rest of the group reunite with Logan until Doris and the others hold them up at gunpoint. He tells everyone to put their guns down and explains how he wants to continue Clayton's message after all. Suddenly, Logan and his crew are viciously shot and killed from afar by Virginia and her group.

John then listens as Virginia reveals she's been watching them and suggests they could all help each other. She can offer them things they want in exchange for keeping the oil fields running. They refuse so she orders her people to prepare to kill them. Luciana offers to stay to help them make gas if she lets the rest go and Virginia agrees. John and the group are then forced to abandon the place.

"Channel 5"

John and the rest of the caravan keep traveling in search of a permanent home. At night, John and the group camp as Dwight kills a walker from one of the original western towns and John suggests that could be the settlement they've been searching for. Suddenly, Charlie calls out for June to run over and help Grace, who has passed out. John thinks about how short life can be and secretly asks June to marry him once they get to the Gulch.

The next day, the convoy stops their truck because they realize its too heavy to make it across a bridge. The wires start to snap so Morgan instructs everyone to cross the bridge without the cars. Suddenly, Virginia drives up and offers to help, explaining she's been following them and can't believe they used extra resources to help Grace. However, no one listens to Virgina and she orders her people to shoot their guns in the air so a nearby herd finds them. She reminds them to give her a holler and drives away.

John and everyone works hastily to move the resources across the bridge while Morgan, Strand, and Al handle the walkers. When more arrive, Morgan is forced to move everyone across. Tom trips while recording as the truck falls through the bridge. He laughs at his good fortune until the bridge under him collapses too. Later, John and the others rest on the side of the road before Morgan tells the group they should continue and Janis says it's what Tom would have wanted. They ditch their trucks and make the journey on foot.

On their walk, John asks Jacob if he does weddings and he says he can. Morgan eavesdrops and suggests instead of making it a secret, they make a big deal out of it to give the group hope. John agrees and asks Morgan to be his best man. Sometime later, the group finds a billboard for the Gulch. Later on, they arrive at the gulch but see that it is completely overrun with walkers. The group debates their next move. John and the others then hear as Morgan radios Virginia for help.

"End of the Line"

John and the rest of the caravan survivors rest along the outskirts of Humbug's Gulch as Morgan contacts with Virginia for help. After a while, Dwight arrives with some horses and explains if they're alive then there must be water nearby. They argue over whether to stay or not and eventually decide to stay, where they'll deal with the walkers and Virginia. John and a group break open the fence and use the horses to lead the massive herd to ambush Virginia and take their supplies while the rest moves into the gulch.

On the road, Dwight quickly gets surrounded by walkers and is forced to jump off his horse as the walkers devour it. Dwight runs off but Morgan follows him and eventually catches up. John and the rest lead the herd into the river while Morgan and Dwight hide in the bushes. The group then returns to the Gulch, where Al shows them the bodies of the people Virginia killed. She insists that they will die fighting Virginia, but Alicia wants to fight back. Morgan just wants to make sure everybody survives and reminds them despite their failures they still made a difference in the world, and they should keep living their lives.

Later, John and June get married inside a chapel in the town. They exchange vows and kiss as the rest of the group looks on with hope. Suddenly, Virginia and her pioneers arrive in a SWAT truck-leading caravan to take the group into different settlements.

That night, the group gets separated and driven away. John tells June he loves her as they are separated and placed in different cars.
