Jonathan Joss was an American actor who portrayed John Fairbanks in Telltale Games' The Walking Dead: Michonne.
Biography
Born in San Antonio, Texas, Joss is of Spanish, Comanche and White Mountain Apache descent. He attended McCollum High School and later enrolled at Texas State University–San Marcos (then Southwest Texas State University) but left before graduating. Joss later attended San Antonio College, before graduating from Our Lady of the Lake University with a degree in theater and speech.
Joss was also a musician, and performed as part of the Red Corn Band, an alternative blues group which has won a Grammy Award for Best Native American Music Album.
On June 1, 2025, Joss passed away after being shot multiple times during an argument with his neighbor. The shooter fled but was detained by responding officers a block away. In a statement posted after the shooting, Joss' husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, revealed that he and Joss were visiting the site of their former home, which burned down in January, when the discovered the skulls and harnesses of their pet dogs that died in the fire. While mourning, they were approached by a neighbor who began shouting homophobic slurs and then pulled out a gun, firing at them. Kern de Gonzales stated that Joss shielded him from the attack and further revealed that authorities were aware of past homophobic threats but didn't provide assistance.[1] On November 17, 2025, Ceja Alvarez was indicted by a grand jury for the first-degree murder of Joss.
