Judith Grimes, also known as "Judy", is a survivor of the outbreak in Skybound Entertainment's Comic Universe. She is a minor character in Image Comics' The Walking Dead and Thomas Dunne Books' The Walking Dead. She is the newborn daughter of Lori Grimes and Shane Walsh, the half-sister of Carl, and the adoptive daughter of Rick.

Post-Apocalypse

The Calm Before

Judith was the second child born of Lori Grimes and the first infant depicted as having been born after the outbreak. As one of the few people so far to have no memories of a world without the horrors of the outbreak, her parents expressed hopes that she would not live in constant fear as they do and accept the post zombie world as the way things were without referencing the way things used to be.

It was a point of contention within the comics as to who is Judith's biological father. Lori had a very brief sexual liaison with Shane Walsh, Rick's best friend, on their way to Atlanta. This put Shane into the right time frame for Judith's conception, although Rick was reunited with Lori not long after, so it was still entirely possible that he was indeed Judith's biological father, although this has been proven false. Rick had since forgiven Lori for her affair with Shane, but, forbid mention that he mightn't be Judith's biological father. As far as he was concerned, he loved his daughter and the circumstances of her conception were completely irrelevant.

Made To Suffer/The Fall of the Governor - Part Two

Judith is protected by her mother and Alice Warren, upon the Governor's assault at the prison. Lori tries to flee the prison with Judith in her arms, but is fatally shot by Lilly Caul on the orders of the Governor, Lori falls killing Judith in the process, much to Rick's horror. Lilly, angered that the Governor forced her to kill an infant, kills him in retaliation.

During the prison attack, the Governor notices the Grimes family fleeing and orders Lilly to finish them off.

• Lilly Caul (Accidental)

After Lori is shot in the back by Lilly, she falls to the ground and lands on top of Judith, crushing and suffocating her to death. It can be assumed that their corpses were devoured by walkers.

Trivia

• Judith was originally supposed to die by being stabbed while Lori was pregnant, by Thomas, but the idea was scrapped.
  • Additionally, Judith was supposed to die in Issue 47 along with Lori.
• Robert Kirkman revealed in an AMA that Judith is indeed Shane's daughter.
• Judith was the only baby in the Comic Series who was born after the outbreak, until the birth of Hershel some time after All Out War: Part Two.
• Being a little over a month old at the time of her death, Judith is the youngest named character to die in the Comic Series.
• Judith is one of only two characters in the Comic Series to be killed by accident, the other being Sherry.
