As it stands right now... it was personal property and you destroyed it. I'm not crazy. I know the dangers of what could have happened... but the law is only concerned with what did.
―Kapoor to Carl about the walker he killed.[src]

Kapoor (first name unknown) is a survivor of the outbreak in Image Comics' The Walking Dead. He is the sheriff of the Commonwealth.

Overview[]

Kapoor appears to be a reasonable and trustworthy authority figure. As the sheriff of the Commonwealth, Kapoor makes sure everything remains lawful and orderly. He is unwilling to make exceptions to anyone, including Carl Grimes who he appears to have a long history with.

Pre-Apocalypse[]

Location Unknown[]

Nothing is known about Kapoor's life prior to or as the outbreak began.

Post-Apocalypse[]

Volume 32: Rest In Peace[]

Sheriff Kapoor arrives at Carl's house and informs him that there will be a hearing tomorrow because Carl killed one of Hershel Greene's walkers and this is considered private property. Flabbergasted, Carl points out the walker could have killed somebody, but Kapoor tells him the law is only concerned with things that happened, not things that could have happened. Kapoor apologizes, and tells Carl he will do everything in his power to help him, and get the punishment reduced down to a fine.

Carl and Sophia arrive to the hearing only to find a long line of people in front of the building. Kapoor apologizes, and supposes that word must have gotten out about Carl coming into town. Carl his punishment is to replace the walker he killed by a new one. The next day a little boy rushes to Hershel and tells him to come quick. The boy takes him to his walker cart, where Hershel is shocked to find all of his walkers dead.

When Carl returns home after a few days of scouting, Sophia demands to know why Carl did what he did, but Carl remorsefully tells her that he just wanted to keep Andrea safe. Lydia tells him that Andrea was safe, but won't be without her father. Their argument is interrupted by Kapoor and his posse.

Trivia[]

  • Kapoor is one of the final named characters to be introduced in the comic series, along with Andrea Grimes, Elias and Conner.
  • Kapoor is featured on the false cover for Issue 194. At the time of its reveal, many people thought he was Rick due to the similar hairstyle and beard and sheriff's uniform, despite Kapoor having a darker skin tone and his right hand. Other readers, who discovered it wasn't Rick, instead joked that Rick was being replaced by a dark-skinned counterpart after dying.[1]
    • Kapoor also appears to be holding a Colt Python on the cover for the unmade Issue 194. This is the same gun used by Rick Grimes in the television series, possibly added as a reference. However, this only managed to further confuse some fans into believing Kapoor was Rick.
