If we are to win this war, between the living and the dead, the flame of human consciousness, must keep burning. This is my duty as your king. And someday, Guillermo will carry on. Along with his beautiful future queen, Elena. (...) It all starts with a vow these young people will take. The Matching is not merely a ritual, it is a promise we make to the future.
―The king's speech to his people.[src]

King Torres (first name unknown) is an antagonist and a survivor of the outbreak in AMC's The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. He is the king of Spain.

Pre-Apocalypse

Spain

Not much is known about his life before the outbreak, except that his family is supposedly related to the royal family of Spain.

Post-Apocalypse

At some point after the outbreak began, Torres used his supposed royal blood to claim the Spanish monarchy, becoming King of the country and retreating to the Alcázar of Seville to form El Alcázar, as he continued to rule over post-apocalyptic Spain.

Season 3

"Solaz del Mar"

At night, the Alcázar nobles enjoy a marionette show with walkers being manipulated by people controlling them via strings, serving as the "puppets." Refilling glasses, Paz points out the king and queen of Spain, who are sitting at a table right in front of the stage, to Daryl. After the play is over, the king gives a speech to his people. "If we are to win this war, between the living and the dead, the flame of human consciousness, must keep burning. This is my duty as your king. And someday, Guillermo will carry on. Along with his beautiful future queen, Elena."

A gramophone record plays as the girls chosen in La Ofrenda are lined up on a small stage in front of the courtyard's fountain. The king declares that the Ofrenda isn't just a ritual, but a vow these young people will take, a promise that they make to the future. Meanwhile backstage, Daryl sneaks around and is caught by the staff overseer. Daryl knocks the man out with a headbutt and cuts the walkers loose with his sword. The walkers fall off the stage onto the unaware nobles, causing chaos to break out. Having been at the table directly in front of the stage, the king and queen are amongst the first to be devoured.

Later, Daryl encounters the zombified King Torres and stabs him in the head with his sword.

Trivia

  • This character was credited as King of Spain.
  • King Torres seems to be unusually resilient after reanimation, continuing to growl for several seconds after being stabbed through the jaw and into the brain with a sword by Daryl, suggesting that he was a variant. Only after Daryl yanks the sword out does the zombified king meet his end. This resilience is similar to that seen in Ampers and runners who could withstand usually fatal blows, for regular walkers. While the king didn't show any obvious other signs of being a runner, he was also stabbed mere moments after being encountered by Daryl.
