La Défense is named after the statue La Défense de Paris by Louis-Ernest Barrias, which was erected in 1883 to commemorate the soldiers who had defended Paris during the Franco-Prussian War.
Daryl and Carol pass through La Défense on their way to the Hippodrome. Later, Daryl and Laurent also pass through it. Looking at the Grande Arche, Laurent comments that it looks like the future, a sentiment that Daryl agrees with.
