Heather Laurie Holden, or more commonly known as Laurie Holden, is an American actress who portrayed Andrea in AMC's The Walking Dead.

Biography

Laurie Holden was born December 17, 1969 in Los Angeles, CA, to actors Glenn Corbett (born Lawrence Holden) and Adrienne Ellis. When she was five, her parents divorced and her mother married director Michael Anderson. Laurie then split her time between L.A. and Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Her first role was on "The Martian's Chronicles" (1980), when she played Rock Hudson's daughter. As a teenager, she won the "Look of the Year" modeling pageant in Toronto. After her freshman year at Montreal's McGill University (as an economics major), she transferred to UCLA and completed her BA.

She currently stars as Renee in The Americans.

Trivia

  • Laurie is among the several cast members who starred in Frank Darabont's The Mist, along with Jeffrey DeMunn, Melissa McBride, Juan Gabriel Pareja, Tiffany Morgan and Sam Witwer.
  • Laurie Holden said that she wasn't supposed to be killed off in Season 3. The decision to kill her off from the show was made and given 3 days before the shooting for the finale began. In addition to this, 3 weeks prior to the shooting of the finale, the script was changed, scrapping her position as new leader of Woodbury.
  • According to her Q&A at 2014 Walker Stalker in Chicago, she was contracted 8 seasons for portraying Andrea, before the decision of killing her off was brought to the table.
  • Interestingly enough, Laurie and her on-screen sister Emma Bell share the same birthday.
  • Holden's performance as Andrea was well-received, particularly in the first and second seasons. Many praised the sisterly bond between Andrea and her sister, Amy (Emma Bell), her relationship with Dale and Andrea's grieving process and transformation into a skilled fighter by the end of the second season. For her performance in the first season, in 2011, Holden received a Saturn Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress on Television for her portrayal of Andrea. Her portrayal as Andrea in "TS-19" was particularly well received by MTV's Josh Wigler, who said she "delivered great character work." Similarly, Alan Sepinwall of HitFix ultimately cited the performance of Laurie Holden as an episode highlight.
    • For her performance in the second season, she was also nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Scream Award. For the season 2 premiere "What Lies Ahead", Derek Boeckelmann of the Daily Nexus praised the performance of Holden, saying that she "continues to be the strongest of the show’s players, consistently putting forth exceptional performances as the grieving Andrea."
