Weizhen is lightly scratched on the arm by a jiāngshī. He continues on in hopes that the scratch didn't infect him. About a day later he succumbs to the infection and collapses. When Hengyen goes to help him, a group of jiāngshī cut off their escape route. Weizhen sacrifices himself to give Hengyen and François time to escape.
