Madison's Hammer is a series of hammers that acts as Madison Clark's primary weapon of choice. They include a small hammer, a large hammer with a sharpened end, and a sledgehammer.
Post-Apocalypse[]
While setting C4 to blow up the Gonzalez Dam, Madison learns that Troy Otto was responsible for the destruction of Broke Jaw Ranch and all of the people who had died there. Enraged, Madison strikes Troy in the head with the hammer that she was using to plant the C4, apparently killing him, before dropping the hammer next to his body. Unbeknownst to Madison, Troy survives and keep the hammer in his possession for the next 12 years, although the hammer blows leave Troy blind in his left eye.
Years later, as a Collector for PADRE, Madison uses a large hammer with a pointed end as one of her primary weapons, particularly against the undead. It is briefly taken by Ava Sanderson and used to break open her grandfather's grave. Madison loses the hammer when Wilt's Posse captures her and buries Madison to drown on the beach, but it is returned to her by Morgan Jones. Madison manages to reach it and use her hammer to put down three zombified posse members and a zombified Ava. Later, according to Odessa Sanderson, Madison kills over a dozen PADRE guards while helping Morgan to rescue Mo and she nearly kills Padre himself before being stopped.
7 years later, after hearing the story, Mo brings Madison a sledgehammer in the hopes that Madison will teach her how to use it. After realizing Mo's true identity, Madison uses the sledgehammer to take down two PADRE guards and escape and she continues using it while fleeing from PADRE with Mo and Morgan. When Morgan and Mo are trapped in a swamp full of walkers, a weakened Madison bangs her sledgehammer on the side of Morgan's Houseboat to draw the herd towards herself, planning to sacrifice herself to save Morgan and Mo. However, Grace arrives in a boat and rescues the three and Shrike and her forces confiscate the sledgehammer after recapturing Madison.
After escaping again and capturing Shrike, Madison takes a new sledgehammer from a bucket full of tools on the PADRE docks. Madison uses it to smash the glass window hiding Padre, revealing his true identity as Ben Krennick, and continues to use the sledgehammer to fight walkers, putting down a zombified Krennick at one point with it and retrieving the coordinates needed for PADRE's Expansion.
After reuniting with Madison after over 12 years, Troy reveals the damage that she had done to him and threatens to use the same hammer that Madison had tried to kill him with on her friends, starting with Victor Strand, if she doesn't reveal PADRE's location to him. After Daniel Salazar rescues the group and Troy reveals that he had supposedly killed Alicia, Madison grabs her old hammer and tries to kill Troy again with it, but she is restrained. It's unknown what happened to that particular hammer as it's never seen again after Madison leaves the hotel with it and Alicia's Prosthetic Arm.
Madison subsequently continues to use her sledgehammer against walkers, trying to kill Troy with it at one point after discovering that he was cutting off the arms of walkers to make her think that they were Alicia. However, Troy manages to block the blow with his blade and Strand eventually drags Madison away. After leaving PADRE, Madison begins luring in herds of walkers with music and taking them out with her sledgehammer in an attempt to find her missing supposedly zombified daughter. During the Fall of PADRE, Madison uses her sledgehammer to smash the tops off of the oxygen tanks in the basement cell area in order to set up a massive explosion to destroy the herd and the fort. The sledgehammer remains in Madison's possession after her rescue by Tracy and reunion with a still alive Alicia.
