Almost nothing is known about Marianne's life before or as the outbreak began. It is known that she has a son named Matthew. She may have lived in or near Woodbury before or during the outbreak.
Marianne Dolan once stopped traffic with her olive-skinned French-Canadian beauty, her hourglass figure, and enormous blue-green eyes. A decade and a half of hard housework and single parenting took its toll on her looks, and the plague times deepened the lines around her mouth and eyes.

Matthew Williams is the son of Marianne, and although they are never seen together, it is presumed that they had a basic mother-son relationship. Marianne obviously cared about Matthew due to Marianne seeing Stevens about Matthew's fever.
We can assume that they were acquainted with each other. Marianne is the last Woodbury citizen to speak to Dr. Stevens when she tried to make an appointment with him for her son, Matthew Williams, because he was running a fever.
- The novel series state that Marianne's last name is Dolan, however, comics state it's Williams. This is most likely an error or it could be her maiden name.
