Mays explains that he was surviving the outbreak with his brother, his brother's wife, and their daughter. When he caught his brother stealing from him, he claimed he "handled the situation". After Mays' death, the captured brother is found in the attic of the warehouse, along with the skeletal corpses of Mrs. Mays and her daughter.

It's implied that she was killed in a game of Russian Roulette set up by Mays, and at some point during the game she died. It is heavily implied that she was killed by her father due to the bullet hole being in the front of her forehead.[1]

- In the picture that Mays has of his family, it shows her to be a toddler; however, when her corpse is shown she has clearly grown thus meaning that she died some time in the ten year time span since the apocalypse had began.

- ↑ According to showrunner Angela Kang, in a behind-the-scenes feature on AMC+, Mays' nameless brother likely killed his own wife and child so he could live. As a result, Mays chained him up to live with his decision.
