Nothing is known about Mel's life prior to or as the outbreak began.
At some point in the apocalypse, Mel somehow came into contact with a group named "The Saviors" which she subsequently joined.
Mel stands at the edge of a bridge, using a set of binoculars to scope out the wooded terrain, searching for the missing Alexandrians. She and her fellow Saviors get a call on the radio that Father Gabriel and Dr. Carson have gone missing from the Sanctuary along with Jeremy's green Jaguar. She and the other men quickly get in their truck and drive away in search of the two missing prisoners. Later, she and the others find Gabriel and Dr. Carson in a garage and take them into custody. At the bullet factory outpost, she and Derek drop of a captured Gabriel at the outpost as Eugene's newest worker and leave along with Negan.
While not directly shown, Mel is among the Saviors who surrendered and later returned to the Sanctuary with Laura and her fellow Saviors after Negan's defeat.
Mel is at the Sanctuary and announces Rick Grimes' arrival when he and his group stop by to check in with Daryl. She descends from the upper levels of the Sanctuary onto the factory floor and surrounds Rick with the other residents, all pleased to see Rick Grimes visiting their community.
Following the six year time jump, the Sanctuary fell apart as a community, with most of its residents integrating into Alexandria, Hilltop, and the Kingdom, though some chose not to join any of the communities. Since then, Mel has not been seen among the communities after the Sanctuary fell, leaving her with an unknown fate.
