Much like nations across the world, Mexico collapsed following the Wildfire outbreak of 2010, it's unclear how exactly Mexico handled the outbreak but what is known is that Mexico attempted to seal its border with the US in an attempt to slow the spread of the virus due to social order beginning to fall apart though these ultimately proved futile as in the end, Mexico collapsed by early-mid September 2010 as a result of being overrun. The former territory is claimed by a variety of survivour groups and settlements such as La Colonia. Mexico's fate in the Comic Universe is unclear though, much like the rest of the world, it collapsed around late July-early August 2003.

As Madison and her group travel further down the California shoreline, they discover that Mexico closed the border crossing from the United States, making land travel impossible. As they get closer to Rosarito, they encounter the Mexican Navy, indicating that there is still a large military presence operating near Mexico's borders.

Pre-Apocalypse
Though Mexico has been largely overrun, it does seem to be functioning slightly better than the US, as a number of neighbourhoods in the city of Tiajuana have become secure safe havens and there is also a large trading post in a stadium near the border where many people from different Mexican survivor enclaves come together to trade.

Prior to the outbreak, Mexico boasted one of the world's largest economies, and was the 13th largest country by total area. It had a total population of around 110,000,000 people. The Mexico-US border served as the most controlled, crossed international border in the world, with nearly some 350 million (legal) crossing yearly.

It was mentioned by George Geary that all of the west coast cities of America got bombed. During his conversation with Travis, he states that Mexico has sealed its borders with the United States.

As the outbreak became global, the Mexican government quickly sealed its shared border with the United States, in response to the many riots and outbreaks emerging in their major cities, as social order was beginning to collapse. This left some Americans stranded in the country, as the Mexican military locked down the border on the land, as well as setting up a flotilla on the water in Baja California, in order to prevent refugees from entering Mexico by sea. Mexico's border became a hotbed of activity, as many people from both sides of the border attempted to either flee or get into Mexico, which led to many infected gathering in the area as well. As seen in "Sivut Cervus", the Mexican Navy maintained an an active presence near Rosarito, so much so that Luis Flores had arranged for passage through the flotilla via a bribe (gold bars), but this deal eventually went awry, and Luis and multiple Mexican naval officers were killed in a short skirmish. It's unclear what happened to the Mexican government after the initial outbreak though it's likely they collapsed shortly after the outbreak.

During his search on Strand's boat, Daniel Salazar found maps of the western coast of Mexico along with a loaded MP5 sub-machine gun.

It is later revealed that Mexico is not the safe haven as is promised, as evidenced by the state of Tijuana. It is unknown if the Mexican government continues to operate in any form, as massive areas of the country are unpoliced, and civilians are left to fend for themselves. With Valery Vashchenko confirming that all the lights had gone out in the world, Mexico overall was eventually completely overrun with the undead at some point. Despite this however, compared to the United States, Mexico has seemingly fared much better, as many survivor networks continued to operate. This included various survival colonies located in or near Tijuana, including La Colonia, and number of drug cartel gangs, most notably Los Hermanos, which controlled much of the remaining supply trade within the city. A violent biker gang known as The Proctors took over a bullfighting ring near the Mexico-US border, and set up a large trading hub dubbed 'El Bazar' (translates to 'The Bazaar'), and it became a large network and gathering spot for many people around the area, ranging from active trade of supplies and services to other various leisure activities. Dante Esquivel, the former Municipal Governor of Tijuana, took control over the Gonzalez Dam with "unsavory forces", forcing surviving residents to trade goods in exchange for water, as Dante controlled the vast majority of the city's water supply. Secluded areas of the country also remain mostly free of infected, as seen in Valle de Guadalupe, where the Abigail Vineyard is located (and was home to a sizable amount of survivors before it was burned down by Daniel Salazar).

Outside of flashback, this is the first time we see Mexico. It is not as safe as people believe. A priest and his congregation are poisoned and later reanimated. However, elements of the Mexican Military, mainly the Mexican Navy are still active and patrolling coastal waters to stop refugees entering- or, at least, to stop those refugees who can't pay and the infected from entering.

When Celia Flores is talking to Daniel Salazar about the walkers locked in the wine cellar, she says she is keeping them safe, because outside they would be "hunted" and "killed" like they were "monsters" and that they are family. Since most of the staff and their families seem to live on the premises, the implication is that they are aware of other walkers who were killed outside the safe house and that the outbreak may not be limited to Baja. The condition of the country at large is ambiguous but it is possible that the outbreak hasn't reached epidemic levels yet.

It presumebly fell to the apocalypse like the rest of the world.
However, the trailer for Season 2b of FTWD seems to suggest that the infection HAS reached epidemic levels in Mexico and that there have been outbreaks for some time. The evidence for this includes the decomposition of some of the walkers and the sheer number of undead.

In addition, when Strand was asked why the members of the flotilla didn't pursue the Abigail or sink it after the exchange that killed Miguel and Vazquez, Strand suggests that they (the military) believe that whatever was on land would kill them. This may indicate that the scale of the pandemic in Mexico is greater than previously thought, and thereby explain the apparent lack of military operations in the area.

Nick spends the night in one of the small houses near the Abigail property in Valle de Guadalupe. The homeowners were already dead. Sofia relates to him that there has been talk of a safety to the north, in the city of Tijuana, Baja California. She decides to head south, in search of Juan's father. Nick spends the next several days travelling through Mexico. The roads are cluttered with abandoned cars, small to moderate size hordes of infected roam the countryside, and outlaws patrol the new lawless world. Most of Baja California is abandoned and overrun, however, in and around the city of Tijuana, survivors have created walled communities which makes it a relatively safe place to be.

Mexico, officially the United Mexican States (Spanish: Estados Unidos Mexicanos) , is a country in North America that appears in AMC's Fear the Walking Dead. It serves as the main location for the majority of Season 2 and Season 3. It was borded by the former United States to the north and the former naton of Guatemala in the south.

Pre-Apocalypse

Prior to the outbreak, Mexico boasted one of the world's largest economies, and was the 13th largest country by total area. It had a total population of around 110,000,000 people. The Mexico-US border served as the most controlled, crossed international border in the world, with nearly some 350 million (legal) crossing yearly.

Post-Apocalypse

Fear The Walking Dead

All-Stars

David briefly comes to Mexico when he is ordered to audition by The Cartel. He stays there as an executioner for them for a number of years before going to the New York branch of The Cartel to be an executioner for them.

It presumebly fell to the apocalypse like the rest of the world.
