Mont-Saint-Michel, Normandy is an island village in France that appears in AMC's The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. The Mont-Saint-Michel Abbey is located on the island and has become a safe haven for a group of survivors.

Pre-Apocalypse[]

The island village of Mont-Saint-Michel was established in 708 on an island a few hundred meters off the coast of mainland France. Its geography made it an accessible location for pilgrims and monks alike to visit the abbey of the same name while protecting it from would-be invaders due to the incoming tide.

The Mont-Saint-Michel Abbey, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was built in 1523 and served as a religious commune. The abbey was an essential part of the structural composition of the village of Mont-Saint-Michel. The island village comprised of the abbey at the top along with the monastery, with the great halls situated below the church buildings, and the fishermen's and farmers' housing on the bottom portion of the island city.[1]

Prior to the outbreak, the island village had a population of 43 people, though it was a very popular cultural site in France and saw nearly 1 million visitors to the island before the outbreak began in 2010.

Post-Apocalypse[]

In 2010, much like the rest of the world, Mont-Saint-Michel was affected by the spread of the Wildfire Virus and its resulting apocalypse, causing the collapse of society at a massive scale. However, they were able to bounce back and have a thriving community on the island. Led by Losang, this community, known as the Nest, became the capitol of the Union of Hope.

Season 1[]

"Deux Amours"[]

Azlan shows Daryl Dixon a picture of Mont-Saint-Michel in his pocket watch, revealing that it's the location of the Nest. The dying Azlan instructs Daryl to follow the river to Mont-Saint-Michel, an order that Daryl gives to Laurent before confronting the Guerriers by himself. However, Laurent turns himself in in order to save Daryl rather than continuing on alone.

"Coming Home"[]

Mont-Saint-Michel will appear in this episode.
