Do you believe that she's alive? 'Cause, if that's what you believe, then, we are just a bunch of murderers.
―Moyers to Travis Manawa.[src]

Moyers (first name unknown) is an antagonist and a survivor of the outbreak in AMC's Fear the Walking Dead. He is a lieutenant of the U.S. Military, commanding the detachment responsible for Safe Zone India. As the Wildfire Virus began to spread throughout California and the rest of the United States, Moyers, as an officer of the Army National Guard, was assigned to protect civilians in Travis Manawa's neighborhood in Los Angeles and contain the spread of the infection. He served as the primary antagonist for the second half of Season 1.

Overview[]

Moyers seems to have very little patience in his mission of managing civilians, and can be dismissive of their questions and concerns, offering little or no explanation. He is somewhat domineering and is usually very direct, as seen when he unapologetically tells Travis that if he doesn't help talk down another civilian, he will take the civilian by force.

Moyers' bluntness even makes some of the survivors uncomfortable in how he so normally speaks of the people as objects. His apparent callous attitude towards the concerns of Travis and other residents was seen in his speech and his decision to not even notify a family that the husband/father was detained. His harsh and aggressive style of leadership was not appreciated either by the population or by the National Guardsmen under his command; it is implied that the central command chose commanders based on their command capabilities and the ability to maintain high morale.

Pre-Apocalypse[]

Los Angeles, California[]

Lieutenant Moyers was a soldier in the U.S. Army prior to and during the apocalypse. His unit insignia shows that he at one time served in the 10th Mountain Division of the U.S. Army. By the time of the apocalypse, Moyers is seen to be serving in the 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, part of the 40th Infantry Division of the California Army National Guard. During "Cobalt", when his men prepare to assault the library, he states that he's "been places where they shoot back", implying that he's seen active combat.

Post-Apocalypse[]

Season 1[]

"Not Fade Away"[]

Assigned with guarding Travis Manawa's neighborhood and clearing the surrounding area, he is seen addressing the citizens of the safe zone. He then enlists Travis's help to convince Doug Thompson to submit to the mandatory health screenings that the military is giving to all residents. The next day, Travis finds signs that Doug snuck out of the safe zone, abandoning his family. He talks about it to Moyers, who is practicing his golf swing on the other side of the fence. Moyers says that they actually detained Doug and had him taken to another location because he was causing trouble. When Travis suggests that he should have told Doug's family so they wouldn't be worrying, Moyers casually claimed that it wasn't his job to do that, and that Travis should tell them.

"Cobalt"[]

Lieutenant Moyers is outside the safe zone with Andrew Adams, Sergeant Castro, Corporal Cole, and other guardsmen as Ofelia Salazar demands for her mother's whereabouts. Adams is sent to calm her down as Moyers demands Castro to get the situation under control. He also orders Castro to stop Cole from abandoning the squad and maintain control of his men. Later, Moyers takes Travis on a trip downtown. After driving for a short while they stop and get out the humvee, and Moyers gets out a .50 caliber M82 Barrett anti-personnel rifle. Offering Travis the chance to take out a walker in an abandoned video rental store, he is unable to pull the trigger. Disappointed, Moyers does it himself, killing the walker with a shot to the head, and then saying, "That's what I thought". After getting back in the humvee, they drive to a library where numerous zombies and a group of soldiers are inside. As Travis watches from the Humvee, told by Castro to stay in it no matter what, Moyers and his men head inside to battle the undead, only for the squad that returned without him claiming that he will never come out, implying that he was probably killed in action.

Death[]

Killed By

After Moyers receives a call from a squad pinned down by the Infected in a library, he and his squad who were planning to take Travis to the field hospital on his request, decide to the return. They disembark their Humvee and head inside. As Travis listens to the radio from the Humvee, it is implied that the soldiers quickly found themselves outnumbered, then overwhelmed. A short while later, Moyers' squad comes out, and after Travis asks Private Richards about Moyers. Travis is told "he got held up" and that "he ain't coming".
