"Power Equals Power"[]

The army has been going from town to town in the New Babylon Federation, drafting people for an "exploratory mission" to Manhattan and publicly executing those who refuse such as Jason Ornell. Supposedly, the army's goal is to reclaim and rebuild Manhattan, to bring it back to what it once was so as to inspire and spread hope as a bastion for civilization.

Having learned of this, the Croat and the Dama force Negan to help them in uniting the gangs controlling Manhattan to form their own army to counter it.

Privately, Colonel Perlie Armstrong confirms Maggie Rhee's suspicions that the army is actually trying to take the Burazi's methane. A widespread infestation of moths has been destroying New Babylon's ethanol source and New Babylon is in danger of falling. However, with the methane, they could potentially bring back power grids and technology. Maggie knows that the "exploratory mission" is actually just the first wave of an invasion, the conscripts and expendable people, but she negotiates a deal where if she joins, then no one from the Bricks who doesn't want to go doesn't have to.

Governor Charlie Byrd agrees to perform an assessment of Maggie and challenges her and anyone else who wishes to volunteer to fight a herd of around 20 walkers in a coral. Against Maggie's objections, Ginny joins her and they fight the herd in the coral. Separately, the two begin taking down walkers with impressive skill, but start to get overwhelmed by sheer numbers. Maggie gets pinned in a corner while four walkers knock Ginny to the ground. Ginny manages to take out two, but she struggles against the last two. Finally, Maggie manages to break free and save Ginny. A final walker comes at them from behind, but Major Lucia Narvaez shoots it and silently expresses her newfound respect for Maggie and Ginny.

Later, Maggie and Ginny leave with the New Babylon forces.

"Another Shitty Lesson"[]

The New Babylon Army prepares to cross the Hudson River to Manhattan using the Liberty Queen ferry. Maggie discovers that someone sent up a smoke signal to the Croat warning him that they're coming, but the leadership refuses to listen to her and locks up Maggie and Hershel who had followed them for her insubordination.

At night, the army makes their crossing, but encounters a Burazi minefield. The Burazi bombard the ferry with walker bombs fired from cannons on the city's rooftops. The Liberty Queen is destroyed, killing most of the invasion force, including Governor Charlie Byrd and General Houseman. Having been set free by Ginny, Maggie and Hershel escape in a raft with Ginny, Perlie Armstrong, Lucia Narvaez, and fourteen others. Spotting Hershel, Maggie, and Ginny in the raft, Negan halts the attack until the survivors are clear of the ferry, allowing them to escape. On shore, the survivors are forced to run from at least 13 zombified soldiers.

The Burazi later capture Benjamin Pierce who had fallen overboard during the attack and washed up near Pier 45.

As the survivors of the invasion force regroup, Maggie realizes that it was Hershel who betrayed them to the Croat and Ginny secretly steals Lucia's gun. Hunted by the Burazi, the remaining New Babylon soldiers head into Central Park, unaware that it's a no man's land that no one ever comes out of again alive.

"Why Did the Mainlanders Cross the River?"[]

The surviving soldiers cross through Central Park, only to be attacked by a herd in the tall grass. Five of the surviving soldiers are killed by walkers, but the remaining ones make it to the Loeb Boathouse where the Foragers take them in. Hershel becomes separated from the group during the walker attack, but he is eventually found by Joan. The two are attacked by Waylen and Joan is mortally wounded before Negan kills the Burazi in order to save Hershel.

During this time, Major Lucia Narvaez argues for the survivors of the first wave to seize the Burazi methane operation themselves rather than returning to the mainland, putting her at odds with Maggie. Lucia and Perlie Armstrong make a pitch for the Foragers to join their ranks, but Roksana is uninterested. Lucia wants to use whatever means necessary to recruit the Foragers, but is stopped by Perlie from using Joan's death as an opportunity to do so and is harshly rebuked for her heartless actions.

"Feisty Friendly"[]

The New Babylon Army will appear in this episode.

"The Bird Always Knows"[]

Having learned of Negan's survival from Ginny, Lucia relieves Perlie of command and arrests him for treason along with locking up Roksana until she agrees to have the Foragers join the fight. Lucia orders Maggie to feign their surrender to Negan in order to lure him and the Croat into an ambush. Although Maggie sneaks back in and tries to kill Lucia, Ginny betrays her and forces Maggie to surrender.

Lucia later holds an execution for Roksana, Maggie and presumably Perlie outside of the Loeb Boathouse. After Roksana again refuses to join the fight, she is hanged, but the execution and the Foragers' moans of grief for their lost leader draws the attention of a large herd that breaks through the gates and attacks. All of the Foragers and the surviving New Babylonians are killed by the walkers. Maggie is rescued from the noose by Ginny and chases after Lucia as she tries to escape with a struggling Hershel. Although Lucia nearly escapes, she is attacked and killed by a zombified Roksana as Maggie pulls her son to safety, leaving Maggie, Perlie, Hershel, Ginny and the captive Benjamin Pierce as the only survivors of the first wave of the New Babylon Army.

Bruegel later arrives with the Silk Stockings who put down the walkers and everyone who had died.

"Bridge Partners Are Hard to Come by These Days"[]

The New Babylon Army will appear in this episode.

"If History Were a Conflagration"[]

Now reluctantly working with the Silk Stockings, Perlie joins their attack on St. Patrick's Cathedral, only to have Negan spring a trap that results in the deaths of the Silk Stockings and Bruegel. Maggie attempts to kill Negan, but she relents after discovering that Ginny, under Negan's care for her infected wound, had died and reanimated.

During these events, the second wave of the New Babylon Army crosses the Hudson River in a large boat and a number of canoes, the Burazi too busy fighting the other gang to notice and stop their arrival. With the help of Benjamin Pierce, the New Babylonians locate and seize the methane, witnessed by Maggie, Negan, Perlie, Hershel and the Dama.
