"No Time Left" is the fifth and final episode of Telltale Games' The Walking Dead: Season One. It is the fifth episode of the series overall. It was written by Sean Vanaman and directed by Vanaman, Jake Rodkin, and Sean Ainsworth.

Summary[]

Savannah has gained a new infestation of the walking dead. With his impending death looming over him, Lee is willing to do whatever he can to save Clementine at any cost. With what remains of his broken group of survivors, can he get her back before it is too late?

Plot[]

Chapter 1: Into The Fire[]

The episode picks up from where the previous episode left off. After revealing or hiding Lee's bite from the group, Lee goes to Vernon's hideout (under Crawford) and realizes that it is abandoned. The stranger, the man who kidnapped Clementine, contacts Lee through Clementine's radio saying that Clementine is "fine", and that Lee should choose his words very carefully. After choosing your option from the end of "Around Every Corner", Lee realizes that she is somewhere else in the city. Lee continues to search the morgue that Vernon and his group took shelter in, Lee looks for some tools and finds a rib spreader. After using the tool on the elevator, Lee passes out from the bite's infection. When he awakens, he is either on the floor; picks himself up; and finds a surgical saw and considers cutting off his arm. If someone came with him, they will be preparing to cut off his arm. Lee has the option of cutting off his arm or leaving it

Cut it off: Lee decides to cut it off not caring for the pain. The event differs depending on who came. Christa does it if only Omid and Christa came, Kenny came with them, Ben came with them or both came. Kenny will do it if only he came or with Ben. If he is present with Christa, he was initially prepared to do it but admits doubts to Christa, prompting her to do it. Going with just Ben displays him attempting to but he can't (fearful he will pass out) so Lee has to do it. Lee chops off his arm through a painful process, Ben fainting midway through. If Lee has come alone, he will also have to do it himself.

Keep the arm: Lee decides against it, convincing those with him that they should just keep an eye on him. He also states how he wants to have both of them to have a better chance of killing Clem's captor. Being on his own just shows him walking back to the elevator.

Regardless, Lee and any others (if anyone else went with him) begin climbing the elevator shaft of the hospital, which is seen to be overrun by hordes of walkers on the inside and out. The group, or Lee, arrives on the roof and sees the streets crowded with thousands of walkers.

Chapter 2: Twice Shy[]

However, using Molly's strategy from "Around Every Corner", Lee manages to reach a bell tower next to the roof. Ringing it, he draws the hordes to the tower, thinning the streets and allowing the group to push on back to the manor.

Depending on whoever came with Lee in "Around Every Corner", the result on arrival can differ. It is shown that whoever stayed behind at the house were ambushed and locked in the shed by Vernon's group, who then proceeded to steal the boat. Kenny and Ben will have cuts in their faces if they were left, implying they were assaulted. If everyone was with Lee, Omid will find a note left by Vernon either saying that you deserved it, or he feels really bad about it. However, the group continues to search for Clementine.

If Ben was saved in "Around Every Corner", Kenny will get frustrated with him once again. After angrily stating that he should've been left to die in Crawford, an enraged Ben fires back at Kenny. The teen exclaims that he is sorry for what he has caused, but also says that Kenny was lucky that he had his family to lose, and was able to say goodbye. Ben reveals that he never had the chance to know what happened to his own, and tells Kenny to stop wishing him dead. If Ben is dead, Kenny will argue with Omid and Christa instead.

The conversation is interrupted when the herd catches up with them and invades the manor. The group puts up a vicious stand, but is forced into the attic where they are trapped.

Chapter 3: There Ain't No Way[]

A squabble between Kenny, who is paranoid of Lee's bite and him turning (even if his arm was removed) and Lee began, the argument becoming greatly heated.

Lose your temper/Throw the stone head: Lee loses his temper, grabbing but hesitating to throw a stone bust head at Kenny, throwing it the wall instead. Kenny is briefly angered by this decision.

Stay calm/don't throw the stone head: If Lee hesitates and does not grab the bust, Kenny will grab it and throw it at the wall in anger. Kenny will noticeably be less angry with Lee.

The wall is shown to be weak and decaying, and leading to the house next to it.

Chapter 4: Mercy[]

The group breaks through it and ends up in a sealed room where a couple committed a double-suicide, locking their room off from the walkers infesting the house. The group look at the corpse, somewhat disturbed by it. Lee checks on Kenny, realizing it is similar to what Katjaa did. Kenny professes his view of how the suicide wasn't right but that he still forgives his wife for her choice. He then remarks that they should keep fighting no matter what, smiling as he states they must find Clementine. He retrieves the couple's pistol, remarking it only has at least one bullet left.

Lee searches the apartment, finding a balcony where it is possible to cross to the next roof, and the group follows.

Saved Ben in episode four: If Ben is still alive and accompanied Lee, the balcony will collapse and fall as he begins to jump. In an attempt to save Ben, Lee and Kenny run down to go and see if he's okay. after removing a bunch of bags off him, it is shown that Ben has been impaled on the railing. As Kenny begins to yank him off, Ben shouts in pain, attracting walkers into the alleyway. As the walkers close in, Kenny demands Lee to go and find Clementine. Lee can either say okay, or refuse. If he does refuse, Kenny will push him past the gate and lock it. As the walkers overrun the alley, Kenny uses his last bullet to prevent Ben from re-animating. If he says okay, he goes past the gate, climbing up the ladder watching Kenny fight the Walkers and uses a bullet on Ben. Kenny is never seen to be killed, not in this or the Christa situation.

Allowed Ben to die in episode four: If Ben was killed in "Around Every Corner", and Kenny came along with the group, the balcony will stay intact and they get onto the next building's roof. Kenny bumps into Lee, making the walkie-talkie fall inside the building through a hole in the roof, Christa jumps down and retrieves it. Kenny and Lee attempt helping her, by using a pole, but she slips and tumbles down again. Kenny jumps in, boosts her up, and is then surrounded by walkers. He fights through them with his last bullets, throwing them off of him, with the assumption then made he has succumbed to the walkers.

Chapter 5: The Marsh House[]

As Lee, Christa, and Omid finally reach the waterfront just across from the Marsh House, they are forced to climb over a large Maccabe Imports sign to get to the next rooftop, as walkers crowd the street below. Whether the player decides to either send Lee or Christa and Omid first the sign will collapse, separating them. Lee orders Christa and Omid to go on and meet him later, and, by player choice, to take care of Clementine when he is "gone". Lee descends into the streets and fights his way through the massive horde of walkers armed with a meat cleaver he found earlier at the manor, and a shard of glass (if his arm was not amputated). After killing several and being splattered in their blood, Lee's scent begins to match that of the walkers, and many ignore him because of this.

Chapter 6: What's in the Bag?[]

He arrives in the Marsh House and searches several rooms until he finds one with a bedroom and closet door roped together. He walks in curiously, only to have The Stranger appear behind him with a pistol drawn. Though Clementine calls out, thinking she hears Lee, the Stranger aims the gun at Lee, forcing him to be quiet and abandon his possessions. The Stranger, in a psychotic but calm state, sits down with Lee and has a discussion with him, asking him if he has ever "hurt anyone". After the player's response and a short talk, The Stranger reveals the station wagon from "Starved For Help" belonged to him and his family. Whether or not Lee and Clementine looted it, his reaction is the same. It is revealed his son (Adam) went missing on a hunting trip. When he returned to the station wagon where his family stated, he and his wife (Tess) went back out but failed to find his son still. They returned, and Lee's group had stolen his supplies, effectively ruining his life as some of Lee's group had stated. His wife took their daughter (Elizabeth) and left, although he found them again one day later. His words and the presence of his wife's severed, reanimated head in the Stranger's bag indicate he may have found her after she had reanimated.

Using his own walkie-talkie, he reveals to have been monitoring Lee and his group since the events of "Starved For Help". He aggressively insults Lee's (and by extension, the player's decisions) informally reviewing them. Depending on the decisions the player made throughout "A New Day", he confronts Lee about his many difficult choices, from saving Carley or Doug, to going to the St. John's Dairy with Clementine, or lying to her about who you really are. In the end, the Stranger tells Lee that he will take Clementine and "hurt [Lee] so bad." While he begins talking to his wife's severed head he keeps in a bowling bag, Clementine escapes from the room and, using one of several objects Lee placed on a table at the stranger's order (if player ignores all items on table she attacks him with her hands), sneaks up and attacks him just as he says that Clementine "wouldn't hurt a fly."

Lee and the stranger begin a fierce brawl, both trying to get the Stranger's gun which is knocked around the room. In the ensuing fight, Lee either tackles the stranger in to the wardrobe or is shot so stumbles back, forcing him to punch him back and then tackle him in to the wardrobe, He headbutts the man, and proceeds to choke him to near death.

Choke the Stranger: If successful, Lee successfully chokes him to death despite the stranger resisting. He lets go as the body slumps down on the floor, deep red marks engraved on the man's skin. Lee can now optionally shoot the Stranger in the head to prevent reanimation.

Show mercy/Fail to overpower the Stranger: If he fails to do so, the stranger pushes him off and tackles him to the floor, choking him back. The Stranger shouts at him to "go away" and "die", tightening his grip round Lee's throat. Clementine will shoot the Stranger dead to save Lee.

Lee and Clementine reunite, but (just as they leave), a walker appears at the door. However, as it sniffs Lee, it ignores him, going for Clementine, though Lee stops it. Realizing from a comment by Clementine about the "muck" on him that the walker was confused by his scent, he takes an organ from the walker and rubs it on Clementine in order to mask her scent as well.

Chapter 7: Stay Close To Me[]

The two initially manage to wade through the walkers outside on the street well, until Clementine sees a zombified Ed and Diana walking the streets. Saddened and terrified, Lee tries to calm her, but passes out once more.

Chapter 8: What Remains[]

Waking up in a jewelry store, Clementine had taken Lee to for safety. Depending on the next few player actions, Lee, on the brink of death now from the bite, whether he amputated his arm or not, tells her to restrain him to a nearby radiator in order to keep him from attacking her or to use them to restrain the zombie. They find a zombified security guard trapped in an office where an emergency exit lays, and when Clementine attempts to take either his gun or keys based on Lee's decision, the walker attacks her. She ends up killing it with Lee's help, and with the gun and in tears, she begs Lee not to become one of "them", though she states she does not think she can bring herself to kill him. Lee can give her advice, such as telling her to avoid cities, go with Omid and Christa, remain on her own, or keep her hair short. It is shown that Clementine will remember his advice (this being a likely hint to a future installment). They say their final goodbyes, and Lee, with a great amount of sadness, can either have a distressed Clementine shoot him or leave him to reanimate.

Have Clementine shoot Lee: Lee convinces Clementine to shoot him, optionally citing the time he allowed to Jolene to die to avoid becoming a walker, confesses he shot Duck out of mercy and it was hard or because his own fear of becoming one. (Determinant) Clementine cries heavily, stepping back. The screen cuts to black as she shakily pulls the trigger.

Tell Clementine to leave: Lee convinces Clementine to leave, telling her there's no time or that she shouldn't have to do such a thing. (Determinant) Clementine goes to leave, looking back one last time as Lee succumbs to the infection and dies. The screen cuts to black.

Do nothing: Saying nothing results in Clementine making the decision herself, basing it on the players choices and how they treated Clementine over the series.

After the credits roll, a tearful Clementine is seen walking in the rural hills near Savannah. She sits down to rest near an abandoned car. While inspecting some shotgun shells off the ground (mirroring Lee's use of them in A New Day's opening), Clementine looks up and observes two human-like silhouetted figures in the distance. She looks at them for a while, and the two figures stop to look towards Clementine, as she remains unsure of what action to take. Then the episode ends with a look of surprise on her face, teasing once more to future installments.

Impacts[]

This list shows the narrative consequences effected by choices from previous episodes of Season One.

  • Of Christa/Omid, Ben and Kenny, 1, 2, all or none of them will agree to come with you to Vernon's hideout at the end of "Around Every Corner". Which of them agreed to go with you carries into the opening of this episode. Whoever didn't come with you will be locked in the shed by Vernon and his group.
    • If Kenny or/and Ben stayed behind, Kenny with have a black eye as well as a cut on his face and Ben will have a slight cut on his lip (though it was taken out in the Remastered collection). Omid and Christa remain unharmed.
  • Your final words (if you didn't remain silent) will be uttered by Lee to the stranger from "Around Every Corner".
  • If you saved Ben in "Around Every Corner", he will appear in this episode. He will fall into any alleyway and be shot mercifully by Kenny in this episode.
    • If he died in the last episode, Kenny's disappearance in this episode will be replaced with a Christa scene on the roof.
  • If you left with everyone to find Clementine, Vernon and his group will steal the boat and leave a note saying he feels bad about it, leaving them and Clementine behind if you reasoned with him or this is revenge for humiliating him if you threatened him.
  • If you chose to fight Kenny and got punched in Long Road Ahead, Lee will have a scratch on his face.
    • Also, depending on who won the fight, Kenny will speak to Christa differently when in the attic about their past together.
  • If you left Lilly, Kenny will say "God knows where she is" (Determinant), instead if she stole the RV, he will say that part of the story.
    • Also , Kenny will have different dialogue depending on pass choice. Calling Lee a piece of shit if Lee never helped him, or tells Christa about killing Larry.
  • Soon after either variation of Kenny's disappearance, the dialogue following the "Kenny was my friend." option will change depending on Lee and Kenny's relationship together.
    • If the pair had a neutral or poor relationship, Christa will reason that just because Kenny is gone, it does not mean that Lee has to suddenly forgive him, to which Lee will respond that Kenny "was what passes for a friend now."
    • If the pair had a good relationship, Christa will let Lee continue, to which he will admit that Kenny was tough to like, but that they were usually on the same page. Lee then finishes by saying that, in the end, they were "assholes together."
  • When the stranger asks Lee about if he ever had hurt someone he cares about, and the player answers "Yes", he will then ask who. Depending on your past actions, one of four characters will appear as a possible option alongside the three default options of Clementine, Lee's wife and silence. In order of priority, they are:
    • Ben (if he died during "Around Every Corner")
    • Carley (if she was saved during "A New Day" and Ben was saved in "Around Every Corner")
    • Kenny (if Doug was saved during "A New Day", Lee did not help kill Larry and Ben was saved in "Around Every Corner")
    • Lilly (if Doug was saved during "A New Day", Lee helped kill Larry and Ben was saved in "Around Every Corner")
      • If the player answers "No" to the previous question, the stranger will accuse Lee for lying. Depending on your past actions, he will either mention Larry if you helped Kenny kill him, Ben if he died in Crawford, or Lee's wife if he did none of the former.
  • Clementine will wear the hoodie for the rest of the episode, as she has done since "Long Road Ahead", if you stole the food from the station wagon. If you didn't, she will wear just her regular dress from "Starved For Help".
  • Depending on what Lee told Clementine while exploring the freight-station in "Long Road Ahead", if Clementine kills the stranger, Lee will say different lines depending on what he told her.
    • If Lee said to Clementine "We learned everything is dangerous" or simply remained silent, he will say "You saved me".
    • If Lee said to Clementine "We learned not to be afraid" he will say "You weren't afraid".
    • If Lee said to Clementine "You have to learn to pull the trigger" he will say "You pulled the trigger".
  • If Lee instructs Clementine to leave him, normally he has a dialogue option to tell her that shooting people will change her, however if Lee told Clem that "You have to learn to pull the trigger" in the freight-station in "Long Road Ahead", this dialogue option is replaced with Lee instead telling her that she could remember him being alive.
  • If you make Clementine shoot Lee, he will give her some advice based on an example of him preventing someone becoming a walker in the past. He will mention either what happened to Irene, Larry, Beatrice or Duck in that order of priority. If Lee did none of the previous four options, he will instead mention how he killed his zombified brother because he did not wish to see him remain as a walker.
  • The stranger has many different lines to criticize Lee for his actions throughout the game and their effect on Clementine.
    • Lying to Clementine about your past, which means choosing any other option except "No." in the drugstore when asked whether the man Lee killed was a walker. If Carly was saved in the drugstore and Lee later agreed with her in "Long Road Ahead" to tell people about his past, followed through by talking to Clementine will cancel out this point if "No." hadn't be chosen originally ("You lied to her about who you really are.")
    • Allowing Clementine to eat human meat ("You let that little girl get fed disgusting human meat.")
    • Killing Danny St. John ("You killed a man with a pitchfork right in front of a little girl.")
    • Abandoning Lilly or stayed silent when making the decision. ("You abandoned a defenseless, grieving woman.")
    • Bringing Clementine to the St. John Dairy, regardless of whether Lee actually agreed to go himself, since he was outvoted ("You walked a little girl into a dairy full of sick people and let them get their hands on her.")
    • If Lee chose none of the previously mentioned options, the stranger will default to commenting on one of the two following choices, alongside his other default comment about bringing Clementine to the dairy.
      • Saving Carley in the drugstore ("You let a boy get yanked out of a window and into the night so you could protect a pretty girl with a gun.")
      • Saving Doug in the drugstore ("You let a woman who knew who you really were die to protect your secret.")
    • The stranger's final third criticism about either be dependent on whether Lee agreed to steal from the stranger's car at the end of "Starved For Help":
      • Agreed to steal from the stranger's car ("The sweatshirt she's wearing was my boy's! You stole that from us!")
        • The Stranger will make the unique comment of "SO MY FAMILY STARVED IN THE COLD!" as opposed to remaining silent like normal if Lee chooses to respond "We were starving."
      • Did not agree to steal from the stranger's car ("How many times has she almost died with you?")
        • The Stranger will make the unique comment of "THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I WOULD'VE DONE!" as opposed to remaining silent like normal if Lee chooses to respond "You wouldn't have done better."
          • However, in this scenario, if Lee brought Clementine to Crawford, the stranger will instead use the example of that for the times "she almost died" instead of his previously mentioned lines ("You brought her to the most dangerous place in this city where she could've died!" )
            • The Stranger will make the unique comment "SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER OFF!" as opposed to remaining silent like normal if Lee chooses to respond "I couldn't leave her alone" with the new possible options given.

  • This is the first episode of the Telltale Series where no new characters are introduced (not counting zombified Tess).
  • The song that plays during the herd scene is "Armed With Death" by Telltale Games.
  • Lee and Clementine discover that zombies will not attack if a person smells like a zombie, similar to how Rick and Glenn did in the Comic Series and the TV Series, by putting guts on their body to blend in with the herd of walkers.
  • The song played in the end credits, is "Take Us Back" by Alela Diane.
  • This episode features all four finalists and the winner from the pre-order contest as zombies, Brie being the first one to appear when the mansion is overrun. Three finalists are shown outside the Marsh House and the last one turns out to be the walker Lee shoots inside of it. Four of them are also on the preview image.
  • The figures seen at the end of the episode have the same models of two walkers.[1]
  • There is an achievement (or trophy depending on what you play the game on) called "What's in the bag?" This is a reference to the movie Se7en. Where a character repeatedly asks, "What's in the box?!" In that film it's also a decapitated head, also in both, the head in the box/bag is a woman, and more importantly, they are both married, example: the stranger is married to the woman, and the detective (the man in Se7en) is married to the woman in the box.
  • The title of this episode refers to Lee's bite, and how he has to get to Clementine before he turns.
  • There is an Easter Egg in a specific room, if Lee chooses to talk to Kenny 5 times, Lee will eventually mention Randy Tudor; referring to him as a "Damn good man" and mentioning that he had a "powerful 'stache". This is a nod to Randy Tudor, the lead programmer at Telltale Games.
  • If Lee does not make a decision on whether or not he should cut off his arm, several different possibilities ensue.
    • If Lee went alone, he just walks away.
    • If only Ben was brought along, he will ask again before allowing him to keep his arm.
    • If Kenny was brought along, alone or with someone else, he will decide that he would do it so that Lee might survive.
    • If only Christa and Omid were brought along, Christa will persuade Lee to cut his arm off, and he will accept.
    • If Ben was brought with Christa and Omid, Christa will persuade Lee as if they were brought alone, with the added question by Ben when he asks her if she is sure that this would be a good idea.
  • Failure to help Kenny push the table will result in Omid helping him. If Lee cut off his arm, Omid will defend him, saying he just lost an arm.
  • Failure to open the attic door will result in Christa opening it.
  • Lee will give Kenny his gun if Lee agrees to leave Kenny and depending on how many bullets Lee used defending the house. If this occurs, it is possible for Lee to say Kenny used a bullet on Ben and another on himself and Christa to mention she heard a couple of shots despite Kenny still only shooting once. This is likely a developer oversight.
  • If Lee remains silent when he is given the option to have Clementine either shoot or leave him, Clementine will make the decision herself, with Lee's past actions determining her choice.
  • The "Maccabe" sign that Lee or Christa and Omid cross and then breaks is named after Jesse Maccabe, an employee at Telltale.
  • This episode has the least main and alive characters compared to any other Telltale Series episode, with total of six (seven, if counting Ben, depending on if the player saved him on the previous episode).
  • As given by Melissa Hutchison, the voice actor of Clementine, the death of Lee in this episode was written when the cast were recording the sessions for "Long Road Ahead".[2]
  • The music played between Lee and Clementine's final conversation is featured on the main menu for Season 2.
  • This is the first episode to contain a post-credit scene.
  • The Clementine series implies that Clementine shooting Lee is the canonical ending.

Goofs/Errors[]

  • There are several errors during the "Previously On" segment:
    • There is a short clip from "Long Road Ahead" of Lee walking into the Travelier Motel wearing his jacket and Kenny wearing his green shirt from "Starved For Help". Molly can be seen in the Crawford bell tower when Vernon is talking about the train, even if Lee left her behind.
    • If Lee hid his bite, then the cutscene where Lee talks to the group about Clementine gone missing will show Lee's sleeve rolled up even though the player chose to conceal the bite.
  • At the hospital, when Lee picks up the rib spreader, it will go to the player's inventory. However, the radio will not appear in the inventory even though the player has it. This happens again when Lee's is on his way to rescue Clementine. The meat cleaver will be in the player's inventory but Clementine's hat and radio will not be there despite Lee having it.
  • If the player chooses to keep the arm, the tourniquet will disappear before Lee and the group (Determinant) get onto the ladder, even though Lee was never seen removing it.
  • During the first two chapters, if Lee and Kenny go to the hospital, there will be a few dialogue oversights. Kenny still says, "we thought we lost you", Lee says "you guys", and Kenny says "We'll keep it steady on our end" (when talking about the ladder).
  • Inexplicably, if the whole group came with you, and Lee hid his bite in the previous episode, the group doesn't question Lee about the bite when they discover it.
  • The Stranger's gun can be fired a maximum of three times and a minimum of one, said one being used to kill the walker that enters the hotel room and the other two being used to shoot Lee in the abdomen and The Stranger in the head. Even if the first two shots are not fired the gun will always seem to run out of ammunition after the walker is shot.
  • The furniture in the attic have noticeably been moved since they were last seen in "Around Every Corner" when Kenny and Lee found a zombified Fivel.
  • When Lee goes back to the mansion after the hospital, and only if Christa and Omid stayed behind, Christa can be heard obviously trying to force the door open, but when Lee opens the door a few seconds later, Christa is on the other side of the shed, nowhere near the doors.
  • After Lee shoots the walker in the Marsh House, he tosses the gun on the floor. However, in the overhead shot before Lee cuts up the walker, the gun disappears. In addition, when Lee drops the gun to the floor, the slide is no longer open.
  • If Christa shoots the first walker that appears in the mansion, when they open the hatch to the attic, the walker can be seen again with the bullet wound on its head and it is still alive.
  • In the final scene of the game, if the player chose to shoot Lee, Clementine's jacket vanishes in the very last frame.
  • If Lee decides not to give up anything at all to the Stranger (which means he still has the walkie-talkie on him), when he leaves the hotel, the walkie-talkie is gone.
  • After Lee or Christa and Omid cross the sign, Lee climbs down a pipe to the streets. Those pipes were not there in the previous episode.
  • If Lee opens the attic door to escape the walkers, he opens the door with his right (determinately only) hand and his gun is in the back of his waistband. In the next shot, the gun is back in his hand.
    • Also, the position the gun fell out of Lee's hand in does not correspond with the way Lee held the gun.
  • In the Remastered Edition, if Lee decided to keep the arm, he does not pick up the glass shard.

Bugs[]

  • If Kenny shoots Ben in the alley, the line "Oh, fuck! Kenny please!" just before the latter's death is played. Sometimes, the full recorded line will be heard, despite the fact the line is interned to cut off midway through "please" due to the gunshot that kills him, making it appear as though he was still speaking even though Kenny just shot him.

Deleted Sequences[]

  • There is an unused sequence where Lee and whoever came to find Clementine with him had to navigate through the Savannah sewers fighting walkers.
  • Lee and his group originally had 40 bullets between them to fight the walkers in the mansion, but it was cut down to 11 in the final version, likely to avoid the sequence from seeming too repetitive and long.
  • If Lee had a poor relationship with Kenny, the latter would have had much different dialogue when arguing over the possibility of Lee turning in the mansion attic.[3]
  • In an interview with Gavin Hammon, the voice of Kenny, it was revealed that Lilly would have made a return with the RV again after her original departure, but it was never made.
    • Also, according to Hammon, Kenny was supposed to be die in this episode, but the writers decided to "resign" Kenny instead of killing him.[4]
      • Kenny's planned death scene would have played out almost identical to his actual "death" scenes in-game, but would have instead featured audio which very clearly indicated that he was killed, unlike the more ambiguous final version.[5]
  • Although technically still in the game, when asked by the stranger whether Lee has ever hurt someone he cared about, an unobtainable dialogue option to mention Lilly is available, but cannot be chosen due other determinant dialogue choices overriding it. If Lee was able to discuss Lilly, he would admit he thought she was a good woman and friend until she lost her father, resulting in her descent into paranoid hysteria.

Achievements[]

  • The Achievement titles for completion of Chapter 1 of Episodes 1 and 5 function together as an allegory for both of Lee's first and last appearances.
    • "Out of the Frying Pan" can be interpreted as Lee being freed from custody, while "Into the Fire" can be interpreted as Lee's transcendence through the circumstances surrounding Clementine's abduction.
