Normandy (French: Normandie) is a region in France that appears in AMC's The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.
Pre-Apocalypse
Rollo's descendant William became king of England in 1066 after defeating Harold Godwinson, the last of the Anglo-Saxon kings, at the Battle of Hastings, while retaining the fiefdom of Normandy for himself and his descendants.
In 1204, during the reign of John of England, mainland Normandy was taken from England by France under King Philip II. Insular Normandy (the Channel Islands) remained, however, under English control. In 1259, Henry III of England recognized the legality of French possession of mainland Normandy under the Treaty of Paris. In 1790 the five departments of Normandy replaced the former province.
On June 6, 1944, the D-Day landings of World War II occurred along Normandy's coast. William Dixon, Daryl and Merle Dixon's grandfather, was one of the many American soldiers who participated in the offensive and was killed in action. He was later buried at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial.
From 1956-2010, Normandy had been divided into two administrative regions: Lower Normandy and Upper Normandy. Upper Normandy (Haute-Normandie) consists of the French departments of Seine-Maritime and Eure, and Lower Normandy (Basse-Normandie) of the departments of Orne, Calvados, and Manche.
Post-Apocalypse
In 2010, much like the rest of the world, Normandy was affected by the spread of the Wildfire Virus and it's resulting apocalypse, causing the collapse of society at a massive scale. However, they were able to bounce back and have a thriving community on the island.
