The Oceanside Massacre is a mentioned major event that occurred during the events of AMC's The Walking Dead.
History[]
While living at Hollowbrant Outreach Recovery, the people of Oceanside are oppressed by the Saviors who force the people to work for them. Instead, the residents fight back, but they lose the fight. In retaliation, Simon sadistically has every male in the community over the age of 10 executed as a final warning. Saviors who take part in the massacre include Justin and Arat who murder Beatrice's husband and Cyndie's little brother respectively. Simon then has "Final Warning" painted on the side of the building.
As a result of the massacre, the surviving residents are forced to flee to a new home where they protect themselves by killing anyone who comes across them on sight. Tara Chambler, after having recently fought the Saviors at the satellite outpost, comes across Oceanside and learns of the events of the massacre.
During the Savior Conflict, Negan, who was not responsible for the Saviors' actions in this case, learns of Simon's subsequent massacre of the Scavengers and admits to Anne that he had made a mistake by taking a chance on Simon after what he did to Oceanside. Upon his return to the Sanctuary, Negan recalls that before he took over and there was a system in place, Simon massacred all of the men and boys at Oceanside and calls it "some psychotic shit" and "the work of a demented, broken, goddamn ghoul." Since that's not the work of someone that you want to work with let alone stand next to, Negan had figured that he'd keep his eye on Simon and everything had seemed to work out right up until the recent events. Negan later kills Simon for his actions after Simon tries to lead a coup against Negan.
19 months after the end of the war, Oceanside decides to take their revenge upon the surviving Saviors from the massacre, abducting each one, taking them to their old home and executing them in the same spot that the Saviors had murdered their loved ones. Following the execution of Justin by Beatrice, the Militia and the surviving Saviors learn of Oceanside's actions. Daryl and Maggie catch Oceanside in the act of executing Arat, but allow them to go through with it after Cyndie describes the sadistic actions of Simon and his men.

Trivia[]
- Presumably, there were other Saviors involved in the Oceanside Massacre than just the ones executed in revenge, but they likely died in the war just like Simon did.
- As revealed in Season 8, this is an event that Negan had nothing to do with, even showing disgust while talking to Simon about his actions.
