Raymond Hilliard, also known as Ray, is a survivor of the outbreak in Skybound Entertainment's Comic Universe. He is a minor character in Thomas Dunne Books' The Walking Dead and a minor antagonist in Image Comics' The Walking Dead. He is a resident of Woodbury and a member of the Woodbury Army.
He is described as "a tall, sinewy, grizzled good old boy—with a Falcons cap pulled down low on his forehead over dark, cunning eyes."
Pre-Apocalypse[]
Atlanta, Georgia[]
Nothing is known about Raymond's life prior to or as the outbreak began except he is a former football coach with a Class C college team out of north Atlanta.
Post-Apocalypse[]
Woodbury, Georgia[]
At some point after the outbreak began, Raymond became a supply runner in Woodbury.
This Sorrowful Life[]
Raymond is first seen in the Woodbury Arena watching Michonne fight Eugene. When she decapitates Eugene and starts killing the chained up biters, Ray and the other residents looks on in horror.
The Fall of the Governor - Part Two[]
Raymond goes on a supply run for fuel, along with Gus Strunk, Sam Curtis, Rudy Warburton and Matthew Hennesey. When they return on Wednesday, they're exhausted but successful, having found an abandoned KOA campground in Forsyth with golf cars filled with almost one hundred and fifty gallons.
Made To Suffer[]
Raymond participated in the prison assault, however after losing several soldiers as the Woodburians were unprepared for the fight. The Governor ordered the remaining Woodbury soldiers (including Raymond) to regroup in the forest. Raymond leads a scouting party consisting of himself, Gabe, Jim, Daniel, Eric and Gloria.
At precisely 6:17 P.M. eastern standard time, two residents of the prison slip into the trees unnoticed by the militia while Raymond's scouting party still discuss what weapons to bring along, how much ammo, and what supplies. Ray uses an AR-15 with a high-capacity clip. He tells Jim to leave his backpack at the camp but Jim thinks he's talking about his small stainless steel flask full of cheap whiskey. Gloria asks if her Tec-9 is enough but Ray tells her to bring an extra magazine or two just in case. He orders Daniel and Eric to stay on their flanks and cover them from behind. The party travels light bringing only enough to defend themselves. They reach a clearing and Raymond pauses, then hand gestures everybody to get down. Gabe asks what's wrong and Ray says he hears something. They're close to the prison and decide to find higher ground to get a look at what's going on down there. Jim needs to pee and says he'll catch up with the others. Gabe and Ray lead the group back up the trail and wait at the top of the ridge for Jim to finish. After he takes a while Ray wanders back down to get him to finish up and finds Michonne and Tyreese hiding Jim's decapitated body.
After Eric is killed and Michonne gets away, Gabe orders Raymond and Daniel to keep an injured Tyreese alive and stop him from escaping. The two kneel on his back with the muzzles of their assault rifles held to his neck. The next morning, Raymond and Lilly Caul keep watch at the camp while the Governor and Gabe drive Tyreese up to the prison's gates.
Raymond and the rest of the Woodbury Army stay in the forest while the Governor and Gabe return to the Prison. After failing to gain access Into the prison, the Governor, and Gabe return to the forest. Raymond asks them how it went, the Governor lies to him, saying that the prison group shot Tyreese in the head so that the Governor wouldn't use him against them. Just then, Michonne (who Gabe claimed to be dead) aims a gun at the Governor. After a quick standoff, Gabe shoots at Michonne which causes her to miss her shot at the Governor by centimeters. Michonne grabs her stolen katana and slices Raymond's Stomach open while making a swift getaway.

Trivia[]
- Raymond's name was revealed in The Fall of the Governor.
- Raymond's appearance changes several times throughout the comic:
- When Volume 8 was originally released, Raymond was one of the eight Woodbury soldiers who survived the entire prison assault, as the plaid shirt character is still seen in the background after Michonne escapes the camp, as well as appearing in Issue 48 after the Governor's death. The novel series retconned this and he is canonically dead.
- This explains why there are sudden changes in his appearance in the comics.
