Richard Matthews, better known as "The Deserter", is a survivor of the outbreak in Overkill's The Walking Dead.
Pre-Apocalypse[]
Pensacola, Florida[]
Not much is known about Richard's life prior to or as the outbreak began, except he had a wife and son and lived in Pensacola, Florida.
Post-Apocalypse[]
Washington, D.C.[]
At some point, Richard came to Washington, D.C., either before or after the apocalypse began, where he was separated from his wife and son. He later joined a member of a group known as "The Brigade" where he was assigned under Hurst. Although he never believed in the cause, even regretting the atrocities he committed, he only joined as a means to survive.
Season 2[]
"No Sanctuary"[]
After Hurst's death, he fled from the Brigade, until Patterson ordered his men to capture all the deserters and execute them. This man is saved by Anderson's group before he could be killed.
